If you or a mate have a flux core welder try building up some material and then grind down to fit. Could use stick or tig, but flux core would be easiest.
Could use JB Weld. I fixed a leaky garbage disposal ~3 years ago with JB Weld and it's still holding.
@@DryUrEyesM8 Hey mate thanks for commenting! I was wondering if you weld the shaft where it's worn do Think you cut the groove with a hacksaw for the e clip?
@@DryUrEyesM8 That stuff is tough I would be interested to see it holds up! I had another idea to cut the groove deeper and run a smaller e clip ? Seems like soft material for stainless to wear like that must have a fair amount of pressure on it.
I use titanium nuts with loctite red
Wouldn't be fun to get that off if you break an axle.
@@MiGG_Aus Sound's heavy duty 👍
@@HelenKellerDenier I reckon, hopefully won't happen.
@@WildHuntFishing It's really not..
There are many boats I would buy before a Stabicraft. Actually honest review, better than the clowns at The Captain constantly promoting these overpriced NZ boats. Times changing and Stabicraft Auckland already closed its doors, and many staff lost their jobs. The industry needs another good shake up that's for sure.
@@bobbuilder5362 Mate that really resonates with me I'm glad I'm not the only one out there! Thanks for commenting!

@@Sean2j Thanks 👍
That’s a Fkn sick set up
Thanks Mate!
I've been using it for a few years now , and I definitely change the oil
@@peter112999 Good to hear mate I'll be interested see what it looks like inside. Thank for the comment.
Nice vid mate. FYI those stripey come under the near shore fish bag of 4 . So you can still get ya 5 demersal as well. Tightlines
@@Tidelines22 Oh shit, Thanks man👍
No I didn't , just the shade of the cab . Cheers 🍻
Did you have the ocean south shade up for this video? Looks like you got some shade for the cockpit.
I didn't have it up mate just heading into the morning sun.
Hey mate I just spray some lanolin on it and inside the key hole and haven't had a problem with it yet. thanks for commenting.
Yeah but once rain 🌧️ and for a while then once you want unlock it will be stuck rusting like hitch towing I took it off lock . I not want happen again last min to be take it off .. I like the lock but rusted and stuck can’t open 🤷🏽♂️
Get a drum winch
What sprayers have u got in the hose, cheers
Cheers for the video think this is a good lesson for anyone with a alloy boat to go over everything with a fine tooth comb and check it all . And fix anything before it becomes a issue
100% thank you
Well did it work?
Yes & No. Worked for 1 trip and got bitten off the next trip.
Thank you
Gotta get rid of the blue lens cap. Otherwise great video.
Thanks buddy, I didn't realise till I watched the footage, got a few problems to iron out. That's the fun in learning. Thanks for the feedback
I think the single biggest issue with all the major boat manufacturers is that they commonly use minimum wage unskilled labour for the fit out component of the build so have a constant turn over of staff who never really get better at it. In regards to the dissimilar metals corrosion issue I don't think they give a rats, bedding and use of tef gel takes time and money and the results of not using it don't really turn up until after the warranty period or can be blamed on the owner not carrying out "preventative maintenance" whatever that means.
Hit the nail on the head.
Thanks for taking the time to do this mate, I have a 1450 Stabi on order and this confirmed my suspicions about the rod holders. I may even go to 130lb rated stainless holders but will definitely use the bedding method you have used. Did you use Sika to bed the backing plates as well? Thanks, John.
No worries, yes also sika on the backing plates.
How did you go about getting the old bolts out, mine have been tac welded
I used a rattle gun and some penetrant. That's sound like hard work buddy.
Who tf welded them on
Nice vid mate. I got a Dunbier trailer about 8 months ago, and have noticed my left side bearings/seals are spewing grease on the inside of my wheel. Obviously they are shot, but interesting to hear you also had issues on that side! I wonder if something is happening at Dunbier... Anyways, going to change all mine to oil bath hubs. Cant wait they did to my left side bearings...
I'm hearing you on that mate, I'm looking at changing to dura hubs after the next bearing change out also.
This fix still working? Installing an Ulterra on my 1850 and keen to hear your feedback.
Yes mate still going
Ive been using CT18 mate. Works an absolute treat. Can get 20L on sale for under 100 bucks.
I use the heavy duty on my boat and trailer, the shit never comes off. I have had it on my outboard for 3 years now, and some how the stuff hasnt move one bit. May attract shit and look yellowish, but at the end of the day i can wipe it off and everything is brand new under it. It is the shit!
80K new seems alright. 1850s second hand some of them, are over 100k!
To confirm tour saying the steel washes of easy with chemicals like salt wash/detergent. I`ve rang the rep and he said SS was harder to remove and dried out far better vs the HD vers..
I can confirm hd works way better on galv trailers! Steel seal was a waste of time.
@@WildHuntFishing Does the H/duty version take at least a few days to get even partially dry ???. The rep said it takes a while to get to 80-90% dry He said thats why for 4wd he recommends the SS product because it dries fully . . Q/ is the Steel Steal alot thinner vs HD ????
Hd is thicker with a slight yellow tinge, takes about a week to dry but still remains tacky. Bull dust and the like will stick to it and after a while it will be dry to the touch. If it's on a galv trailer it will look dull, but as soon as you clean it off it looks brand new. Ss Is thinner and a brown colour, dries in about a day and remains slightly tacky. After a week dry to the touch and leaves the galv slight yellow/brown. I use car wash and salt wash on the boat and the ss wore off easier and I had to keep reapplying used 5L in a year touching up where it came off. I have had a hd 5l drum for 2 years now just touching up with half left
For a 4wd as I've done my own is to spray on the hd and just drive bitumen roads for a week and then after the week drive down a dirt track and then you will have only a coat of fine dust stuck underneath. You will be right to hit the Beach after that. You don't want to spray it on and hit the beach immediately or you will have salty sand stuck underneath if that makes sense.
Other valuable info from rep was the SS version wicks between panel overlap and stands to reason its thinner . Disappointed it comes off easier just with hose pressure . Gal dip finish after 12mths most paints/ lanotec should stick to it . Lanotec is a reapply product . Even the USA branded products are difficult to acquire and HUGE dollars ,not much choice in ozzy . ---My own cars are early Ranger with very very thin underbody paint . Ford do crappy paint jobs ,,well known with the F trucks . I repainted front apron panel at 70,oookm and various underbody parts powder coated . The chassis has transparent paint ---The later Toyota is far better from the factory Both need doing
This is a great little product... Bought one and so simple and works brilliantly
Good honest review mate. Keep the vids coming
Good luck with your transom. Owners manuals recommend a real transom saver, as it forms a 3 point of contact triangle vs loading the motor at the one point with these ram Mount sleeves
Good to know, do you have a product you recommend?
@@WildHuntFishing I honestly make my own. You can buy the ones at Cabela's or marine stores they work fine too. They require a plate be mounted to trailer or some an existing roller. Either one make sure to tie both ends with bungee cord I have had one come off too, because boat strap broke and boat shifted hitting a bump
Mate you should’ve got a Yamaha. Those Mercuries are not as reliable and really hurt the resale value of the boat.
I'm hearing you on that one buddy. 😂
So you cut the alligator clips to end up installing another alligator clips again?? 😅
I had a Anderson connection on my boat so I could connect direct. If I go on another boat I can use the alligator clip connection.
I've gone away from this now using solar connectors as their waterproof.
How many gallons of fuel does it hold all together now with the extra tanks ?
170L
44.9 Gallons
Thanks does it perform in the ocean. I’m looking at them as a Pacific Ocean boat.
Yes it performs well.
thanks not many Stabis in California @@WildHuntFishing
How much is this boat man , nice video!
About 100k aud
Thanks fo taking the time for an in depth o.c.d anal video. I'm the same. Small shit pisses me off when it's my own big money purchase. Probably a bad time globally to buy anything when you finally received it. As a chef, we learn and take on how we can do things better, and Stabi hopefully will be one of those companies. They probably need better networking and support from dealerships in Oz.

Great honest review.. I was keen on a 1850 Supercab but the price in 2023 after extras above $140,000. Have ordered a BC 615HT instead. It’s always a compromise of sorts but really appreciate your honest review, most reviews are marketing pitches. 👍
No worries buddy , if you don't mind me asking what's the rough price on the bar crusher?
@@WildHuntFishing 615HT with premium extras, including winch, lights, electronics , 16” Simrad and 1kw transducer, wipers 150hp Yamaha, alloy trailer, esky seats etc, about $130, 000
@@aaronbrooks5618 Sounds good to me. Best of luck.
@@aaronbrooks5618Holy Moly!!! I really want to get a 6.5m+ boat, however I just can’t justify the prices. $140K for a 5m dinghy is just ridiculous.

What about the 1450 profish? Are there any known issues?
Hey Mate, I'm not sure on that model. There's alot of info on the stabicraft fanpage on Facebook. I did see that the deck can become detached from the stringers and bounce a bit but I'm sure this would be fixed. Cheers
Looking to get one myself. Have you taken it out on the water yet? How do you rate it?
I haven't had a chance yet, been blowing a gale up here at the moment. Will do a video once I get out. Cheers
Finally got her out with the shade & worked awesome doing Max 25 knot in the boat no trouble.
@WildHuntFishing thanks mate. I'll be ordering one soon.
you are the man appreciate you running through ever little thing. for real mahalo!
No problems mate! Thanks for taking the time to comment.
Hi mate I have the 2050 pulled out the rope out of the anchor well after watching this and shore enough there was corrosion deep into the hole plate just as well it has. Up grade 6 mm will coat the area with rubber paint product, fitted zip wakes much better than trim tabs fixes automatically any roll in any condition
I'm glad this helped you on that mate. If you're on Facebook their is a group called stabicraft fanpage and their is alot of info on what people have done to slow the corrosion down. I like the zipwakes most people speak highly off them. I'm still deciding whether to go traditional tabs or zippys as their is quite a cost difference with zippys and traditional tabs are pretty indestructible. Auto tabs would be handy for family and friends that like jumping around for sure. I'm happy to save $1500 to press a button though and spend it on something else too. Cheers for commenting mate and hopefully this helps a few more people.
@@WildHuntFishing thanks mate this is my second stabicraft had a 559 was a great boat no trim tabs required but did find because of the cab you would get a bit of a lean with cross wind not drastic though Could line the anchor well with a deck foam and make up a cage to keep rope off the bottom I give it’s some thought but thanks for the tip would eventually had a hole 🕳️
Hey mate, good on you for having such an eye for detail.i used to boat build for a renown boat builder in nz.thats abit sad that stabi cant come to the party and fix all that for ya mate.i personally would sell it mate.not trying to offend ya mate, theres better boats than that for what theyre usually priced at.
I'm hearing you on that one mate ! It's a hard one as I've ironed out most of the dramas and getting some good use out of it. Don't want to sell a lemon to some poor soul. The NZ built boats were miles in front price wise in covid times. In terms of prices now for new boats alot higher so I think I grit my teeth until I with the lotto. Thanks for the kind words much appreciated.
I am currently looking at a new Stabi 1550 Fisher…interested in what boats you would suggest are a better option? Cheers
@@paulsloan6184 Hey mate, I couldn't tell you on that size boat. I guess it depends on where you live and what qualities you want in a boat. I wouldn't let this video tarnish your thoughts on this brand. I enjoy my boat but just wanted to highlight the issues I came across. In the future I may look into a glass boat for heading further offshore. Thanks
I understand where you are coming from ,considering the cost you would think it would be better, but and this is a big but it’s not a car that is mass produced on an assembly line where the company can spend 100’s of millions on development it’s more like a caravan made of parts from all different companies and that is where the problem lies ,installing parts that weren’t specifically designed for your boat but designed for 100’s of different brands of boats and to top that of not everything is installed at the factory some is installed by the dealer or sales companies that sell the components So I guess I look at it like I’m buying a hull from Stabicraft a motor from Mercury a trailer from x the rest is bits and bobs. As far as the cost goes it’s hand made and we all know the cost of hand made I mean in comparison to a production line that puts out 100’s of cars a day Look I know I’m on a rant but I actually do understand I’m 400klms from my dealer so I took it home went over it with a fine tooth comb like you and fixed everything to my standard myself even though I know they are responsible I hope you are enjoying fishing out of it and there is a good side to owning a Stabi Cheers from down south
I agree with you! Some of the responsibility lies with the manufacturers, dealers and other third parties. Some faults are unforeseen and some are from lack of care. There is a lack of a customer service and ownership these days. Great boat and enjoy fishing out of her. Just wish their was less issues left me feeling shitty. Just wanted to shine the light on what you could possibly have to deal with buying a new boat. Cheers for the comment.
@Do-iz6qd My mechanic noticed the engine sounded different to his and decided to open up the oil filter and noticed it was full of metal. Otherwise the motor ran fine and has no complaints. Thanks for the back up with the poor quality much 👍👍
