These filters are around £24 each including delivery. However, I’m trying to get a discount or a voucher code for those who are subscribers or find a cheaper place to purchase from or possible look at buying the units in parts and putting them together to save money. I’m going to connect mine to a small aquarium pump and run the pipe into one side and back into the pond which I will do a video ...

If you can subscribe please do I would like a few more subscribers before my 73rd birthday in November. I will be building a new filter system over the winter and
Hi Alan. You may need to consider the fumes coming from a parafin heater, they do give off carbon monoxide, how would that affect your fish if enclosed? Just a thought. Glad the nitrate filters are working, I'm considering getting some. I have a planted pond with a planted bog filter system which works amazingly well when the plants are growing but have to rely on water changes when the plants die back.
Makes zero sense as you don’t explain where this even goes in your pond to clear the nitrate
it goes inside the 3x filter for tap to pond or in my case 2x filter from small pump I will put in the pond to inlet on filter and out the other side into the pond.
A good idea to reduce nitrate, but your video does not explain much, it's very vague. Perhaps another one with information about the products and brands that you are using?
It does not have a brand at the moment I found it on a german site and managed to get hold of one to try to see if it works if it does when it goes into production I will get more and give information on where they can be purchased.
That’s a good idea the wD40 . Do you ever spray the rubber parts with silicone spray to protect the rubber ?
NO I found that rubbing rubbers with sudocrem is best as it protects through the winter.
@@PondKoiTipsTricks I see , ok. Where I live we have no winter. But good to know that works in cold locations to protect .
Can you share a link of where you purchased this please. Thanks.
Yes the whole unit with filters is £49 from finerfilters.co.uk
Just finished winterizing my pond for winter ❄ 🥶. My pond is heated 😤 so needs to be able to keep the heat in. Subscribed to your channel ⛩🐟⛩
I have been looking at building a small polytunnel over the pond and putting in a small greenhouse heater this should cost around £2 a week to run as the pollytunel will hold the heat in I may build this in the next few weeks.
Hi Alan. I could do with upgrading my system too. Any idea of the cost of replacement cartridges/filters and how often they recommend changing?
well it depends on your water quality i change mine when the first one turns brown a set of 10" filters are around £11
Im at the moment looking at the best place to buy them and the lowest price I can find I will be doing a review of 2 systems.
To be honest i have never covered my ponds for winters in 50+ years. I live in Wales at a fairly high altitude and my main pond is at ground level in my North facing back garden hence the temperatures can get relatively low. However my pond will only freeze 2 or 3 times a year but never completely. The waterfall area never freezes nor does the area where the return from my filters enters the water. With the pond being 4 feet deep at one end my koi tend to congregate at the bottom there and seem content enough. Apart from helping prevent freezing, do you find any other benefits to covering your pond? Would be interested to hear. 👍👍
I have too last year my pond dropped to -8
White bread is hazardous to koi. Be careful.
My koi are fussy they only like warburtons whole meal.
Hi Alan. This is common in ponds with lower flow rates particularly natural or wildlife ponds which have little or very low water movement. Not normally seen in modern koi ponds with modern filter systems due to much higher flow and better mixing of filtered/unfiltered water. If you want to cure it you cut raise the flow rate (if your filter is capable) or simply drop another pump in your pond to create more circulation. My advice would be to ask yourself if it is affecting your fish? If not it shouldn't be a concern. All the best. 👍👍
put another pump in
Its not ammonia and nitrite that changes . its chlorine, and yes straight from the tap in england is deadly for fish.
Yes I will be getting my hands on a german filter soon which takes all chlorine out of hte water or so it says
@@PondKoiTipsTricks good because straight out of the tap is deadly for fish.
Isn't the chlorine going to be a problem if it runs straight
Yes I did a test on that and found it was a little higher without the inline filter however with the inline filter on it did drop but when it rained it went up again. So the filter made very little differance.
When did you last change the filters in the 3stage ?
must be 5 weeks ago
Mine are only on wheatgerm garlic now water 12c
yes getting cold now and dark nights
No good airports in India you show your passport more times than enough
thats true and verry unhelpfull took me an hour to get past police on door
I note that there is 3% and 12% which one do you use 1 liters per 1000 gallons
3% i found best
Thanks
Your fish seem really lethargic, somthing dossnt seem right, even feeding the food you think they like, try food with fish meal as the main ingredients, when i feed mine its like a pack of piranhas. What are your other water tests, ph and kh?
water tests are all fine I have used aqua food and Hikari they just wont touch it spit it out.
My son commented today ‘Dad. Your green water has gone brown’. ‘I know I said, it’s the rain’. One day it will be clear. Good luck with yours.
Yes non stop rain day after day even the water out of the taps is poor.
Is that cheap food 'Herons' brand? My fish love that too. I buy that and Coppens of Holland Koi food and my fish seem to enjoy them, both are reasonably priced yet give good results. 👍👍
At first they all looked the same however I went for Extra Select Premium because I noticed it had wheat flour in it same as brown bread.
Not very lively are they ,I would test the water
Yes the water quality is fine my problem is seagulls get hundreds of them flying over through the day the odd one sometimes drops down and circles the pond also 1 mile from big nature park and get visits from herons at least once a week. However I have a video in the next few days on how to stop them.
Dried insects and shrimp are a great food to give koi. 50% protein and they absolutely go crazy for them. I got 4 big tubs of different types for about £25 including delivery.
Yes I do give them Silkworm Pupae they dont like them , River Shrimp same again wont touch them , Calci Worms and meal worms they eat fine.
@@PondKoiTipsTricks Mine don't like the silkworm pupae much. Mealworms and freshwater shrimp (both small and large) they devour.
You put that much shite in I'm not surprised
well I have found it works small amounts through the winter and none in the spring and summer in one of my filter bays I grow cucumbers 10 ml pea gravel in a container 3 seeds drop it into the filter bay and off they go it must be the Nitrogen in the water. May extend it next year making a bigger filter and adding tomatoes see how they do.
What treatments do you do over the winter. What dosage?
Brilliant Alan. I did exactly the same 25 years ago with a bin. Never had any problems after I made it. Crystal clear water in a 4 square meter pond. The liner finally gave way this year, so a total rebuild on the go. And yes, the trusty wheely bin will be put back into action. Managed to save 25 fish before the water drained away. All crap dug out, 25 years worth. 2 one ton bags of it. New liner, new uv lamp, same old wheely bin.
Yes I have been looking at the idea of a woffal filter inside the pipe which would split the water into 4 flows making it full of more oxygen still working on how to make one.
So only use the 3% not the 6%?
You can use 6% but half it I keep to 3% in case I forget to half the 6%.
I have had mint growing in my pond just floating in a basket and it hasn't affected my water parameters.
You didn't show the filter medium mate!!! All you've shown is sticking some plastic together...
media is first alfagrog next carbon pellets then ziolite next K1 jap matting and last filter wool
You said drain the water off and then put it into my pond? Do you mean after 2 hours just pour the boiled water into the pond?
Yes you can also do the same with barley when a farmer cuts it down ask if you can have a carry bag of the waste and soak it the same useing it every month through the winter.
Measurements wold help how much water, how much to put in pond
Its in the discription 100ml per 1000gal into the pond mix 130g to 1 lt hot water.
It should say on the bag but I do 150g to 1lt water then put 150ml per 1000gal of pond water.
If you have good filtering and air you dont need all that testing ,its find out the couse of green water
Where I live its a bad place for salt air and rain which is salty also a lot of iron gets in the rain water this all effects my pond plus I have a high count of nitrate in the tap water.
Sorry about the leg. Is it diabetes? I hope it gets better for you soon.
No doctors have no idea what it is tests show no diabetes all they do is give me tablets.
Looks like a new pond did you treat the water before adding fish
The pond is 30 years old not a problem in the past however all the rain made the pond turn black. Then More rain and it started to turn a dark green no algea in the pond.
Its a very beautiful pond that you've got. Must be nice to enjoy watching the fish. I do hope your pain improves 🙏🏽
Yes, thank you Im on a course of antibiotics and very strong pain killers which dont seem that good I was told to soak a bandage in zinc and put this on by a lady who is 97 years of age over the years she has used zinc will think about that one.
why is the outlet so low? you're missing a lot of filtration?
The water goes in at the top filters all they way down then comes up the pipe.
@@PondKoiTipsTricks aaahh
Very interesting Alan, I have just subscibed to you, best wishes, Tony, Farmoor Koi😀
Thank you for that I like to experiment and use simple things.
Ok, what's machine are you going to look at? 😅
im going to look at an ion machine checking up on them now.
So what was the product you used to treat the pond ???
its in the video blanket answer around 4 scoops in my pons which is around 1/4 dose
Good old diy filter. Its a great feeling when you make something cheap and it works well.
Yes been thinking of a 4 compartment brick one at the back of the pond gravity filling and gravity back to the pond.
You poor man. I hope you're leg gets better very soon. Great video. Thanks 👌
Yes its been like this now for almost 2 years nothing you can do its just got to go on its own well one day.
Does it harm plants in pond
I dont have plants in the pond but I do a pond filter veg bay which the water goes through and ive had no problems with those plants always use food grade amount depends on pond size but start with 60ml.
Hi. I missed the name of the product you use
If you have discovered small worms in your tap water. Or your fish have been catching things. The worms that have been reported to have been found in tap water are midge larvae, flatworms, roundworms (otherwise known as nematodes), and rotifers. The typical size of parasitic worms or helmiths, such as flukes, tapeworms, hookworms, ascris, pinworms, trichina worms, and filaria worms is 30-50 microns in diameter. Nematodes have long, cylindrical bodies which have no internal segments. Nematodes in fresh water and in the soil are microscopic. Some can be up to 1 inch long and others are microscopic. They can enter the water supply via reservoirs, wells, streams, rivers or lakes. The usual response to this problem has been one of increased reactive maintenance routines by the water company. This typically involves considerable cleaning and disinfection of the supply zone and increased chlorination of the water for a period of time after the event. This often gives rise to frequent complaints about the resulting taste and odour. It should also be noted that chlorine and bleach can be totally ineffective against blood worms in particular. Worms in tap water have also been known to impart objectionable tastes and odours to water. Although totally undesirable, it is generally accepted that these are completely harmless and they have been studied for whether they are carriers of the type of disease-bearing bacteria found in the intestines of warm-blooded animals.
A great video I really enjoyed it you have a new subscriber. I am original from Nottingham England but I emigrated to Newfoundland Canada in 1990 - 2018 I decided to keep koi in my garden pond like I did in the UK but here the winter is brutal like -20 is very common so we have our own chalenges. Plus we can’t purchase equipment so I have to make everything ie filters etc. Cheers Mate.
Im having a go at bricks to warm the pond its a simple method a greenhouse heater B0BD9HL64X it has a square home made tin cover like a funnel which goes under the pond covers so the heat goes up this and blows across the pond under the covers the heater has bricks all round to stop the possibility of fire the covers keep the heat in and I found it ups the temp by around 10c.
very cold in derby mate but no snow and pond holding at 4 degrees😢
Well load of snow going over now temp just on -4 so its going to hit you sunday or monday but it may turn to rain by the time you get it.

What part of the country are you alan
North Northumberland
Ahhh, you've been watching Dazzle Koi. I mentioned people opinions in one of my videos. Daz is the king... I take it you've scrapped your honey nut crunch serials as well then.. 😊😉👍
No will still give them some cherioos due to the wheat content
@@PondKoiTipsTricks so not taking all his advice..😉👍
Don't know where you are ,I'm in wigan my pond still 15c ,always miss a lot of bad weather
Im way up in northumberland and get all the bad weather off the coast thick fog ice cold wind rain if anyone gets it I know its going to be me.
Either they are not well, or a heron has been round my fish eat it no problem,
When I put the coppens in which they normally have they took it right away can not understand it,
Good price there Alan. Just need one of those filters to reduce the water reflections...😉👍
Have my self a box of square filters with a lens connector you push the connector onto the lens then just drop the filters in from my days of doing my own films and prints in the darkroom. Must be 30 years ago now they are someplace in one of the sheds or in the loft also kept my first 2 cameras a Zorki 4 and Zenith E that would be 55 years ago I think I still have a Yashica 124G camera as well I got that in 1975 with my first wage from Butlins as a photographer
Hi Alan, why not run your returns to the pond through the compost, just a thought
Yes you could run the pipes through the compost but would have to reduce the flow of water for it to benefit from the heat you could not run the water through the compost as a filter this would allow the microbes into the pond water and would produce a lot of algea.
They say "once they've found you they'll just keep coming until there's nothing to come back for."..😮
Yes must be around 20 of them in the lake they have been around here for years dummy herons dont keep them away the only yhing as I was told by the warden of the nature reserve is to limit the space they like a 10ft clear area so if you break the area down put potted plants around or high fence even a couple of washing lines will stop them. The one on thursday was a bad one cut through the plastic net on the pond. Wire on now.
very interesting mate does it affect the water quality
yes it will clear water up I use it 25ml to 1000 gal to clear green or dirty water not more than once every 2 weeks.
