This is just a quick video on our way home from a fabulous couple of weeks snorkelling a tropical island paradise in the Pacific. It was hot and sweaty being their stormy season but it was a pleasant change from the sweltering heat of the WA desert where we can expect our summer temperature to hit 45°C or more.
Turning 70... and the new Cue house.

It's never happened to me before but when my family all turned up for my 70th birthday it blew me away. Most travelled from Queensland to WA and kept it quiet for months even sharing the planning on a secret Facebook page. Actually anything on Facebook would be safe from me because I rarely go there. After arriving home from the party Mrs M bought me a new project, an old stone and iron cottage...
Minelab's GPX6000 on the hot rocks
Просмотров 696Год назад
Minelab's GPX6000 is a great detector for small gold but not everywhere. If hotrocks are scattered about it may be impossible to successfully swing this machine. On this short video I was detecting for gold in an area where I knew there should have been plenty of small nuggets. Sometimes you can get away with raking the surface rocks away but then you can end up digging even deeper just exposin...
Mini-Camper Cutlery Drawer
Просмотров 192Год назад
I'm leaving tomorrow to find a bit of gold. The mini-camper is ready to go now that I've made and fitted a cutlery drawer. It was the one thing that I most needed on my one day trial run a few weeks back. This video will show you how I fitted the drawer latch so that the drawer can be opened and closed with one hand.
The gold dig that kept on giving - Sept 2023

This video is of the best dig on our rush four day trip out to the local goldfields. I went on my own on Thursday but returned at lunchtime Friday after losing all my water when a hose fitting came apart. Mrs M joined me for Saturday through to Tuesday for a very successful and pleasant few days away. The video quality starts out poor because I was using the iPhone tucked into my belt. The film...

This video was made with Clipchamp. Not my usual video editor but I wanted to try the Text to Audio feature. In this video I add a handle to the camper drawer so that it can be opened with one hand.
Processing gold from rocks

Everybody strikes hotrocks at some point when looking for gold. Usually these solid ironstone rocks can be identified by checking their attraction to a strong magnet. Sometimes we find these heavily mineralised rocks that have no magnetic attraction. I've been told "If they don't stick to a magnet then they'll have gold". I've doubted that statement but I had to check it out for myself because ...

I've been offered a new addition to our gold prospecting gear. It's been sitting idle for many years so who knows what condition it's in. If I can set it up properly and it operates as it should then we'll capture a lot of the gold that Goldilocks has missed.
From Dust to Gold

Our gold mining lease is just 600m from home. Being that close to town it's been thoroughly worked over by metal detectors and dry-blowers for many years. Prospectors these days tend to follow the rules but in years gone by all this ground close to town was visited regularly by the annual caravan park tenants and locals alike. Like they say 'nobody gets all the gold'. We built Goldilocks right ...
Searching for gold in WA's north

We were in a new area where the gold seemed to collect in little pockets. We got a few in the same place on several occasions.

The tell me "gold is where you find it", well sometimes that's quite inconvenient. We do our best to prevent damage to the vegetation when digging for gold but there are times when you feel a chainsaw would help. Unfortunately the use of power tools is against the rules.
Several nuggets from under the rocks

We visited a new area this trip. I had a few say "Why go north for gold when you can run the dryblower at home?" Well the short answer is, we all enjoy a holiday even if everyday is a Sunday about here. Nothing beats a camping trip away from home and finding a bit of gold is a bonus. This time we found a few spots that produced more than one nugget from each hole.

We've been north for a few weeks. It was a good trip but with very high Spinifex grass and a good dose of rain we left a little earlier than expected. Mrs M enjoyed pulling a few nice nuggets out using the SDC2300.

I was wondering if it would be worth crushing the other barren bits of the rock and panning them?
Very informative thanks
Perfect and simple. Excellent job mate...hello from Fox Island River Newfoundland
Nice, a 2-fer hole. Well done
I should have been there Phil!!!
And why were you not there?
@@moneybox5733 bad planning by me
Good to see you back at it again. I see you have retired the 4500 and 14” elite. How far ahead on a percentage scale would the 6000 be compared to the 45. Cheers Greg
Greg, it's very hard to tell, the 4500 found all the big stuff and the 6000 finds a lot more tiny bits. We averaged 500g per trip with the 4500 and so far the 6000 has not done better than 200g. Perhaps the gold has gone?
@@moneybox5733 very interesting Phil, I am starting to correlate the information from various members of you tube and the latter comment is very correct. Cheers to you both . Greg
Very good as usual . Looks like Nullagine to me .
Yes Nullagine area :)

Hi. Same problem with PI in areas where a lot of iron hot rocks exist. My SDC2300 was screaming, couldnt use it. Surprisingly the Gold Monster 1000 in discrimination mode can see those hot rocks, show the sign towards iron but not making any sound. I was able to detect with a VLF.
nice need to build one myself for gold and gems. well done my friend
I really want to go detecting for gold
EXCELLENT" WORK! CHEERS" from a pre 500 sub in Idaho! Its 3c here" That's Warm!
Looks like paradise! Ahhh.....didn't see Taz....???
Yeah, sorry Taz... Late last year Taz sustained a serious injury. He was playing up at the time, crawled onto the stove and was a victim of the wrong hotplate selected. He's pretty much cured but we couldn't risk an overseas trip so close afterwards.
Did you check the hub before you field it in
Welcome to the 70s club , @ 76 n still out there swinging n digging hole's would have to say nah to that project (house) no fun at all 🥵👎 Life was short when we started bloody site shorter after ya hit 70.
I've never done it, the renovation thing. Well I have bought a few old houses and splashed a bit of paint on, laid a few rolls of wallpaper and built a couple of kitchens but nothing like this. We really hope a good clean up will make it look a little less daunting.
Be better off buying a block and putting a transportable on. That would be a bottomless pit of expenditure. Not to mention the time. At my age, and it’s not 70 yet. I would want less work not more. Mind you, that’s just me. I am not you and it might look different though your eyes. After renovating two homes now. It’s a no from me😁
Come on guys, I need a little encouragement. I already have a wife so I don't need any more negative views 🤣
What diameter handle do you guys favor?
What brand is that c bowl? I have that needs partss for.
I't a Knudson concentrator.
Thank you, I have an electric one. I always ask because I have another one that needs parts and we don't know the bri.
That stock 11” coil is an absolute piece of sh1t
Each to them selves, hot rocks. I just swing very very slow and not to use the stock coil. Try hunting those places before sun hits them.
Hi Phil, might be best to try the 14" DD coil in that ground, it's a fantastic under rated coil and should handle those rocks better than the mono.
Yes, correct. I have put it on when the hot rocks are a bit noisy. Still sensitive to small targets and will ping deeper bigger targets. Will top out about 10” on a 5g where the 11” mono will punch a bit deeper. Mind you we are in Leonora, that ground shown might be more difficult to balance on. I know I can get mine to run dead silent on the laterite and basalt. I bit noisy on the magnetite iron stone. I wonder if the 6000 in this clip has a problem. It has been an issue on the early machines. Although I have spent a fair bit of time with two of them without issue.
@@goldfools5445 Yes the DD does make a diference on bad ground but these ironstone rocks give such a sharp signal there seems to be no fix for it on the 6000. This is my new 6000 supplied by Minelab under warranty recently. The old machine was trouble from day one but I put up with it for nearly tow years but after one repair and four coil failures Minelab replaced the whole unit and this is a much better detector.
When on the patch at Naneen we had two 6000's and tried both coils. The GPZ7000 and GPX4500 ran reasonably well over the same ground where the 6000 couldn't be used.
That's why I love my zed Phil. It still gets noisy, but in some ground the 6 is too sensitive and thinks everything is a target
That’s some really hot ground
Talented man. A skill I don’t possess. When I make stuff it always looks like a person with no skills made it.🤣
Good find and well done for persevering with all that hard digging and rock breaking
Bloody beauty not a honey hole but a moneybox hole 👌👍
Very spiffy Phil 👌🏽
Wow stuff dreams are made of ah, well done 💛👌
Congratulations of the gold
Time to get out the dynamite?????
This is vacant crown land so we're limited in what we can use. I'm sure dynamite would be frowned upon but I do need to take another look at it. Perhaps a big coil on the GPX4500 might turn up something.
@@moneybox5733 I’ve only got a 4000 with new Nugget finder Evo 14x7 coil, not much hope for me.
Nice haul. Well done
Too good Phil!
I reckon that's worth the effort.Well done
Good video
Keep trying
You both must been hardheaded ! helmet worth their weight in gold. It doesn’t take much!
Yes Pat you are probably right but it's just another bit of gear to carry however we should.
As jealous as I am of the gold nuggets you find, I'm even more jealous that you have such an awesome wife that loves to go hunting for gold in the remote places of Australia as much as you. 😢
Mate, you must give up that name, it's holding you back 😁. Yes I've very fortunate to have a permanent fossicking/prospecting partner. It makes treks into far off destinations much easier and therefore the chance of finding treasure is much more likely.
i made one similar about a year or so ago, but instead of air filter , i used pvc .. and its not ez to get big pvc, but a 5 gallon bucket would be my next if i were using it much ...
I find it easier to work with metal and the mesh size suited perfectly. I'd like to build something now to reduce the dirt from the dryblower output from 7mm down to 3mm to pass through the Knudson concentrator.
@@moneybox5733 u might try some hard ware store sheet of expanded metal mesh - the smallest might be less than 7mm ..
Thank you Robert. The biggest problem is the location where we like. We're in Cue WA so if I need something our best resource is the local tip where stock levels of useful items varies considerably. Freight is either very expensive or awfully slow. I ordered a new LG computer from LG in Sydney on 28th February. It was sent via DHL but is still floating about somewhere. I'll use locally available items when possible.
@@moneybox5733 bif flotilla of box shipping containers that are sitting in purgatory .. awaiting something ... chinese shipments are about a month now, depending on the kind of item ... it speeds up magically around Christmas time !!!
That ort to speed up your cleanup time Phil!
We know the dryblower doesn't get a lot of the very fine gold but of course we don't know how much is really there. My dryblower output is already screened down to 7mm so I'm hoping to set something up to screen all those piles down to 3mm and then pass all that dust through the Knudson and hopefully collect the flower gold that we've missed. The problem is water supply.
Here in the USA, I get those deep targets that are not really there. Nice try and two thumbs up for putting all that hard work in at trying to find something.
thats why you get the 2300 out to make sure its not ground noise before you dig to far
Beautiful find.
What an awesome day you had. I love watching your videos, keep up the great digs.
I have found 1 ounce nuggets here in California and to find something like that I think my heart would give out. lol Great nugget congrats!
