Disinformation Tactics: False dilemma (False Dichotomy)
One commonly used disinformation tactic is the false dilemma (also known as a false dichotomy).
A false dilemma is when the speaker insists there are only two options available--and that you must choose or the other--when, in reality, there are many other options available.
The false dilemma is often communicated emotively with a sense of urgency, to try to influence you to choose a side ("us" or "them").
In class sessions at the Cambridge Judge Business School, students overwhelmingly assessed the rhetoric in this video as communicating a false dilemma, because there are presumably many other alternatives available to address the underlying problem presented by the speaker.
