Two Questions for Dr. Ross. (on anyone who feels capable of answering.) Was the design of the universe such that it was created with entropy, or was it designed so that it allowed entropy caused by Satan's fall? For example: It is apparent that God planned for disease by giving us humans an immune system capable of adapting to new diseases. Was the lifespan of mankind shortened to maximize this elimination of evil? Good message.

Avshalom keeps repeating ideas such as, "They have the same degree of existence". It's fine if he wants to introduce his own ideas to explore or challenge GR but if he's teaching GR to students, he has to make the distinction very clear because he is stating things which are not supported or are irrelevant in general relativity. He should instead say that he is philosophically not satisfied with GR and discuss that as opposed to implying that there are Einstein's theory has internal contradictions. His approach is messy. EDIT: He doesn't understand, which is the minimum requirement to be able to say, "I don't agree".

Quantum consciousness, remote viewing, multi-scale intelligence, and teleophobia weave together into a profound tapestry that challenges the conventional boundaries of reality, perception, and human potential. The idea of quantum consciousness suggests that the mind is not merely a byproduct of brain activity but might be interconnected with the quantum realm, where particles exist in multiple states and locations simultaneously. This could mean that consciousness itself operates on a quantum level, accessing information beyond the physical constraints of time and space. Remote viewing, the ability to perceive or describe distant or unseen locations, might be a manifestation of this quantum consciousness. If the mind can tap into a universal quantum field, it could theoretically access information from any point in space-time, suggesting that our consciousness is not bound by the limitations of the body or the classical world. This hints at a multi-scale intelligence where the human mind interacts with the fabric of reality on different scales, from the microscopic quantum level to the macroscopic world we experience daily. Teleophobia, the fear of distant or unseen phenomena, emerges in response to these unsettling ideas, as they challenge the familiar, materialistic view of existence. It represents the discomfort and resistance faced when confronted with the possibility that our minds might be more expansive and interconnected than we have ever imagined. Embracing this paradigm invites us to explore the frontiers of consciousness, to redefine intelligence as a multi-layered phenomenon, and to open our minds to the hidden potential that lies beyond the boundaries of conventional perception.

I like a lot of Dr Ross's arguments in other contexts. But here, I don't think that his answers make much sense. If people's actions are driven by 'strong free-will', then they are not driven by fundamental laws of nature. If God can intervene through miracles , but not too often, then why wouldn't God save the interventions for just the most egregious suffering of innocents, such as the molestation of children, many of whom go on to commit suicide or live terrible lives because of their innocent suffering. Many people die in natural disasters (and perhaps suffer some damnation) having never heard the 'Christian message', and certainly did so in previous aeons. As a good, loving, parent, you might, in fact, need to inflict a small, proportionate, amount of suffering on a child in order for them to understand, age-appropriate, personal responsibility (e.g. not getting a wished-for present or being grounded). But you must not, and would not, inflict serious physical, mental or emotional harm or abuse. And yet Dr Ross argues and asks us to accept that an all-loving and all-powerful God is perfectly justified in inflicting any level of suffering or harm, even on those who made no individual, free-will, decisions, as part of events. And then he answers that he can't comment on individual cases of such natural suffering / evil because the laws only apply to groups. My ears are very much open on this topic, as I follow a Christian-Buddhist path as best I can, but I don't find any of Dr Ross's arguments here either convincing or sensible. I think certain Process Theologies, where God is all-loving but not all powerful, and not necessarily the creator of all that is, make far more sense of Christ's message.

To exist means simply to be "actual". Real things exist outside of the mind as opposed to those that exist inside someone's mind. Therefore, everything that is real must be actual. The past is no longer actual, and the future is not actual yet. Therefore, neither of them can be real. While the present, because it is actual, is real. Can you make up a word that covers what was actual, what is, and what will be? Yes, but what would be the usefulness of that?

So this guy is supposed to be a professional philosopher on quantum mechanics but he doesn't understand the basis of the theory. There is no non-locality in quantum mechanics, the proof being the possibility of constructing a relativistic quantum field theory with no worries (unlike Bohm's fundamentally non-local theory). So no, there is no difficulty in mixing relativity and quantum mechanics. No wonder some physicists don't take philosophers seriously with examples like these.

Until the instant before the winner in a lottery is announced, the chance of winning it is distributed over all the lottery participants (often, uniformly). However, at the instant it is announced, the chance of winning it for all others 'collapses' to 0, while it 'jumps' to 1(or certainty) for the winner. Similarly, if the wave function of a system is not an 'object'/'thing' as such but a (formally or, numerically) coded information about the possible states of the system then, its so-called 'collapse' and 'jump' do not appear to be so absurd (as it is for an 'object'/'thing' would be)!

I met Michael in 2017 at UCSB and spent an hour with him. I was at that time contracted to develop a private nonprofit to catalyze innovation in quantum technologies. The benefactor has since passed and left the entirety of his estate to the enterprise. I served as director of the institute for a time prior to the benefactor's tragically sudden passing. In my duties, I had the privilege of meeting many of the brightest minds on the planet. Several Nobel laureates, industry CSO's, University department heads and every variety of scientist working at the cutting edge of fundamental research and technological development. Of all the people I had the privilege to meet, Michael was far and away the most profoundly intelligent. He's deeply humble and listens with a penetrating intensity. He is soft spoken but when he speaks its thunderous. From antiquity, the greatest leaps in innovation seem to arise from those who use the lens of geometry as a prism to understand the universe. Pythagoras, Archimedes, Euclid all the way up to Penrose and Freedman. As director of an interdisciplinary group of experts, it became evident early on that the majority of disagreements or clashes in perspectives related to semantic misinterpretations. People are so easily lost in translation. The chemists struggle to communicate with the physicists and visa versa. Just as the mathematicians struggle to communicate ideas to condensed matter engineers and visa versa. Michael is the most supremely gifted individual I've met in communicating with crystalline clarity on a staggering array of complex subjects. He is peerless in this regard as far as i know. There is good reason he was selected to head up Microsoft's Quantum computing initiative. He is able to understand the entire system from end to end. I met John Martinis the same day who used to lead Googles Quantum AI lab. He was busy performing an experiment. Google's QAI lab is near the UCSB campus. They are different creatures and its not fair to compare them based on a single interaction yet Michael exudes a distinctively alien intelligence (in the very best sense). With all due respect, I suggest revisiting the interview in order to determine whether there was any misinterpretation purely based on his choice of words. It happens to the very best and brightest. I am writing with the most sincere intent.

Back in the 1990s, Alexander Dugin was a co-founder of the National-Bolshevik party of Russia, a fusion of nazi and communist (bolshevist) ideology. Their party flag was copied from the red nazi flag with a big white circle in the center but with hammer and sickle instead of swastika. Dugin is a fascist, a Russian nazi. He has nothing to do with philosophy. His writings are filled with loathing towards the West and liberalism and with belief in the supremacy of Russia. The summary of his writings can be explained by his own words: "Suffer with us, die with us, kill with us, sing with us, walk with us, disappear in us, be buried with us, fast with us, prostrate yourself with us, disappear with us, love with us, hate with us". A typically fascist agenda. Maria Katasonova, activist of ultra-nationalist Eurasian Youth Movement and Dugin's admirer and follower, referring to the war against Ukraine (and the West) said in her RUclips Christmas message: "Brothers and sisters, merry Christmas. The enemy will be defeated. Victory will be ours. But if we start losing, we will destroy the whole world." Her Christmas greetings end up with the scene of a nuclear explosion. This is what Dugin and the like are about. So, if you admire fascism/nazism politically and satanism spiritually, then Alexander Dugin is for you.

Its actually very simple, most people who argue against Sapolsky are actually arguing in favor of the existence of god and not really addressing the any of the hard science Sapolsky mentions. In order to fully grasp the concept of NO FREE WILL you need to let go of the Judeo-Christian concept of the self and free will. This is a classic dilemma in Christianity that can't be solved by any Christians because its most logical solution dissolves the belief in god, it automatically causes a collapse of lots of fundamental ideas of Christianity like a stack of dominos. How can god be just if he punishes sinners for doing things they have no control over? How can we have free will if god already predetermined everything that will happen, and he is in total control of the universe? It is impossible for both statements to be true like official Christian theology dictates. If god is omniscient and omnipotent, then we have no free will, and if we have no free will then god is unjust in sending us to hell for actions we have no control over, and if god is not just then can we really say god is good? god is real? why did Jesus sacrifice himself? on the other hand, if we truly do have free will and no one but us is responsible for our actions, then god cant be omniscient and omnipotent he could technically be just, but how can we be sure he is just and doesn't make mistakes if he isn't all-knowing? that leaves room for error. So people who argue against this usually are just arguing in favor of god and not really against Sapolsky or anything he actually says or the science he brings up. And yes the official answer to this just like the logical fallacies of the trinity is "god works in mysterious ways beyond our comprehension" This worked wonders on goat herders 500 years ago but not so much today.
