Simon was zealous against the established Roman government. That means he did not buy their narrative. That means he was courageous enough to be curious. That means he asked questions. Anyone who asks a question believes that it’s possible that someone might have conspired. There might be the presence of evil in high places. Let’s recheck the definition of what a conspiracy means. Either governments are glorious and benign, or there exists significant influence of evil at higher levels in some cases. Zeal is fervency of heat. Simon was fired up about perceived wickedness and how the government was functioning. One cannot become genuinely zealous unless they are against something they perceive to be wicked.

That’s a good thought. It was just a theory. Jesus himself worked from at least age 12 to age 30 which is 18 years of industriously performing in his earthly father’s given business. Traveling is expensive. Even just the food. Understandably Jesus by his own admission did not sleep in fine hotels. Traveling with 12 companions is not free. Jesus did not indeed instruct His followers to give away all worldly possessions. Otherwise they would not be able to function or serve. Should I give away all my worldly possessions to be a better minister?

@SimpleGospelPodcast In the Bible, Jesus tells a rich young ruler to give away his possessions in Luke 18:22, saying, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me". Jesus also says in Matthew 19:21-24, "If you want to give it all you've got,” Jesus replied, “go sell your possessions; give everything to the poor. All your wealth will then be in heaven. Then come follow me”.

@SimpleGospelPodcast It's probable that he would have worked with his father, but I doubt he was a titan of industry. But once he began his ministry, he relied on the kindness of others. Most people didn't sleep in an inn when they traveled either, bro. They didn't have them like we have hotels. Traveling costs? You mean walking and hunting and fishing and sleeping in tents? Turns out you can do those things pretty cheaply. And don't forget, it was god who provided for them whst they needed. Everything else is vanity and striving after the wind.
