i have the same style opener. ant it has terrible range. how has this modification worked for you since install ?

The antenna range is still hampered by this configuration. That Liftmaster model transmits/receives around 390MHz, which is 7.7 inches (19.5mm) at 1/4 wavelength monopole antenna dimensions. You want to use a coaxial (e.g. ground adjacent/shielded) connection between the antenna out of the opener's PCB and a ground point on that PCB (as close to the antenna out point as possible) and then strip the outer components of the coaxial cable once you are outside the building with 7.7 inches of the center wire exposed. That would be the optimal design for range and longevity of the opener's electronics.

LED bulbs product 300 to 400 mhz radio signals that interfere with garage door opener signals. need to get receiving antenna away from the lights. I too live in a steel building. I had to use grounded coax cable extended to the outside of the building. I stripped away 9" of grounded exterior cable, mounted through insulated bracket not allowing the center 9" wire to touch ground. Use aluminum tape on antenna wire that is not covered by ground inside the building. solder connections. Antenna length is determined by wave length, only need 1/4 wave. Grounded exterior of the coax cable is what does the trick.

Thats i nice building you have! I have a similar setup, also the lift master 8500. How long do you make the antenna? Maybe you mentioned that, isn’t the length of the antenna critical for the frequency? I’m not an expert and would like to know from someone who has expertise in radio operation.

Thanks for posting this! I have a metal garage door and metal roof insulation and my car's homelink has trouble communicating even in my own driveway! I'm definitely going to give this a shot. What kind of bracket did you use to keep the antenna oriented upright?
