have you read the Sophocles Oedipus Rex play?
i think this strategy is helping me to categorise the passage, thank you
Glad to hear it Atharvi!
darren who was your teacher i have wightman and im cooked lmao
Haha I had Mr Wightman too - how are you finding it?
Who is this? Is that what you think of my class? See me after period 4 tomorrow.
Haha the zero to hero part being cringe made me LOL!!! Love how you made your video in the comfort of your own home and so natural 🙂I watched some MMI videos on RUclips and I notice that many of the so called interviewees use a lot of medical language. 😮💨They seem to be armed with lots knowledge pertaining to Medical scenarios already. 😳I know they are definitely scripted besides prior medical knowledge since they are videos made by medical students, but in the real MMIs example in Monash Uni, do they actually require interviewees to be armed with so much of this knowledge. I am now worried.
Glad you like the background! I can’t really comment without seeing the exact videos you’re referring to. Generally interviews don’t require that much medical knowledge - more how to manage ethical issues (plagiarism, bullying) and an awareness of broader social problems as well (rural, Aboriginal health)
Hi Darren, how long were you in this placement? Is this considered regional? Do you need to do rural placement as well for your course? Any idea if the students under the bonded program study the first two years in Clayton like the 'unbonded' program? Thank you. :)
Hi Dandelion! Most students have a week of rural placement in second year (the other students have class or time-off I think). That’s when this video was recorded. I’m fairly sure that bonded students have the exact same five years of uni as all the other students - the ‘bonded’ part comes into play once they’ve graduated

Hey Darren, I'm currently in year 12, and I just wanna say that I really admire your skills, as a person and as a medical student. You are literally living my dream and I really hope to become a medical student on the other side of the atar exams. Wish you the best.
Thank you for the kind words Just done! Enjoy your time in Year 12 and working towards your goals. I think fondly of my years in high school, but am enjoying the next stage now :)

Haha thanks Emmy
Oh so good!!!
Thanks Dandelion!

thank you so much
No worries user!

Hey ofcc! Yes I do - I’m full for VCE tutoring but am available for MMI tutoring (if you’re interested in med)

Thanks Darren, very insightful tips! I did VCE Oral Exams back in 2015 and I wish we had videos like this back then for us to prepare haha.
Does that mean I would get a higher atar with 6 subjects than 5 since additional 10% of that sixth subject is added to mys score?
Generally yes. Unless studying a sixth subjects leads to doing worse in the other five.
I will ace the UCAT!
for chem wht were sac and exam scores
for methods, the research investigation rly took my grade down I got like 60% whilst people in my cohort that don’t usually get high in normal exam style sacs did way better than me. My second sac I got high 90’s, for this sac I should be ranked top 5 at least. Do you think I can still get over 45 raw or has that ship sailed 😭
Do you think i should take architecture or med, which one is better in your opinion?
that english thing ruined my plan bro. i was gonna do 5 subjects so english which is my weakest only counts as 10% :( also any study tips for english because I cant really find a specific thing to work on
If you can’t find specific things to work on, try sending in just a plan, or just an intro, or a bp to your teacher. That way you can work on specific parts of the essay and your teacher can help you with your ideas or analysis or vocab etc.
I WILL ACE THE UCAT ❤🤍🙏🏼🙏🏼
Oh my..... very year 9.
I just watch these to understand how hard life is if i actually to uni 4-5 days a week and actually passed my classes. 🥱
Darren, buy airpods.
Hey could you attach the annotated essay please?
Eric is really gay.
I would totally be Eric's best friend if we went to the same school. Even the acne, the lisp and the talking like a girl.
I only watch these videos because I could've never achieved these grades when I sat my VCE. I'm already 22. I couldn't cope with the stress of Year 11 and Year 12. It's crazy how smart and hardworking Darren is, along side the perfect ATAR of 99.95 he is. I literally saw him on a newspaper the day ATARs got released.
Another day spent on RUclips, failing and drooping out of uni. Or lying I even went.
Hi Darren. Thanks for sharing this information, great video as always. As I'm preparing for my upcoming interview at Monash, I wanted to clarify regarding a part of the video. You mentioned that there is no leeway with timing. Does this mean that as soon as your 8 minutes are up for one station, you will be shifted to the next breakout room right away and your 2 minutes reading time will start instantly? Is there no time in between for them to maybe paste the prompt in the chat, or really just to say "good morning"s? Just clarifying as I feel this is a bit strange, one minute you are responding to one prompt and the next you're suddenly in the next breakout room. Also, would you advice I greet the interviewers or will they typically engage first? How did it go for you, if you can recall? Thanks for everything, honestly your videos both here and on Medify are so informative and helpful. Wish you all the best with your journey as a future doctor :D
Hey Sanhita! No worries, thanks for supporting the videos here and on Medify. Yep you are shifted immediately - I think they have a timer on so everything is automated. I remember greeting the examiners, it’s just natural to say hi - but how in detail you go after that is up to you. A spoken interview is a bit different to a maths exam, so I think the half a minute it takes to chat/share the prompt isn’t a huge issue.
@@DarrenTan21 Hi Darren, thanks for the quick reply. This is my first proper interview ever HAHAHA so was overthinking the process a little. Thanks so much for your help!
Hi Darren , can I private chat with you ?
Hi Darren, im in year 9 and thinking about doing Latin in vce. I speak 2 languages similar to it, so its easy for me to pick out certain words in passages, however im starting from scratch. How do you recommend me to study latin? Are students required to write essays in vce latin? Also, my school would have me do vsl latin (cause theres no teachers), so what would you recommend me to do? Thanks
Hey Ethan, I’d recommend you use the Oxford Latin books and learn the vocabulary and grammar which they cover there (first book is red, second books is yellow etc.). Importantly, learn how to conjugate nouns/verbs/adjectives + some vocab. Does VSL Latin start in Year 12? I’d recommend you have classes or tests earlier as they help with learning the language. It sounds like VSL is your only option unless you’re changing schools or going with another subject instead.
hi so in the 2 mins we just read the prompt. like no questions will be on the screen? and then the interviewer will ask all 5 of them verbally in the 8 minutes right
Yep!
hi darren! i wanna ask you if i muck up sac1 of mathematic method, do i still get a chance to score over 40 at last? i’m really annoying right now
Hey Sney, yes - still more sacs and the exam to go
@@DarrenTan21 ok! i m no.1 in my school in sac1. i was overthinking! thanks anyway
@@sneyjrwhat counts as mucking it up
Hi Iam an immigrate and have undergraduat diploma equal to aqv lev 5 So my atar will be in my dibloma or my 12 year degree please answer?
Thanks Darren. Your videos have carried me throughout VCE, and continue to do so even now while I’m in med (at monash too😅)

If you swim to this level, how do you not have the swimmers body? I went to a public school, and every single person that this level of swimming had muscles/
I only watch your channel because I just dropped out of uni. I’m sorry for leaving something kind of mean in your comment section.
hi Darren, this video was really helpful thank you :) do you recommend practicing first by writing on the computer? because my teacher tells us to write up all our essays
Thanks Noor! Probably hand-write the ones your teacher wants you to hand-in. Otherwise go with what you're comfortable with. I like typing because it's quick and I can edit any part of it freely. Also less likely to be lost!
