I see that some of the rail runners have very wide urethane wheels and then again yours . are the typical train wheels. Did you have any problem derailing with the track not being parallel to each rail

I've been across that trestle. About 22 years ago, we road our mountain bikes down from Jacumba, and then continued all the way down to the desert, where I had stashed my van for the trip back to the top. It was a once in a lifetime adventure. Thanks for sharing yours.

You won't see much more of this. The SD&AE, which was never economically viable, will be scrapped out soon. SP ran it until '79 as a tax write-off, since the boneheaded ICC wouldn't approve abandonment. Even if completely rebuilt, the line could never make a profit, since containerization is now the mainstay in freight, and that means stacks, which would be unfeasible, even with a billion in improvements. Spreckles was a whacko with too much money and not enough sense.
