Clogged Garbage Disposal Repair
Просмотров 928 месяцев назад
If you “overstuff” your garbage disposal with food, the P-trap will clog and water will back up in the side of the sink with the disposal. There’s no need to call a plumber, with a little patience and a little effort you can solve this problem yourself.

Maytag Side-by-Side Refrigerator Ice Maker Repair

This video gives a complete step-by-step guide to dealing with the number one failure mode for Maytag and Whirlpool side-by-side refrigerator ice-makers. If your side-by-side refrigerator icemaker has stopped working, look at the wiring at the bottom of the freezer door. You are likely to find severed wires that naturally occur due to the design of the refrigerator and the movement of the freez...

    Well said Brian! Can't agree more about lack of quality these days. I've made this repair twice now and the wires broke in different locations each time. Now some wires have broke at the location where they vertically enter the door, seen in your video around 15:17. At my wits end with this refrigerator. I feel at this point I have to take the door apart or replace the door?

    Does a singular male and female plug connector exist that the wires could be inserted into at the curve? This would make the job so much easier, all you would need to do is cut and strip all wires and insert them into each connector and then plug in. The plug connectors could act as protection where they bend. If only I were an electrician.

    So I bought a new ice amker and installed it, but it still didn't work. The next day, I found this video. I looked at the bottom of the fridge and I found two broken wires just like in this video. I have to get some wires, solder, and/or some other connectors to splice it back together. That will have to be when the stores open tomorrow. It's not fixed yet, but I'm confident that this will fix it.

    • @wendysuept
      @wendysuept 8 месяцев назад

      This is my opinion on this issue... depending on where you install your refrigerator/freezer, if the freezer door can open all the way unobstructed (like 180 degrees), then the ice maker wires will last about 3 years in my estimation. If the door can only open 90 degrees (because it is near a counter or cabinet, for example), then it will last approximately 6 years. (My sister has same fridge and her freezer door can only open 90 degrees, and her wires are JUST NOW starting to fray after 5 years). The duration it lasts may ber related to your kitchen set up. Warranty is 1 year. If it were me, I would reject it and get a different model where the icemaker is not in the door.

    • @gerrylopez5743

      @@wendysuept thanks for feedback. Based on you and what everyone else wrote the Achilles heel of this fridge is the water and ice on the door. Cancelled my order and got the whirlpool side by side without water and ice dispenser. Fingers crossed that maybe it lasts more than 5 years.

    The Kitchenaid KRSF705HPS has the same problem!!!!!!! Buyer beware. Right after my original manufacturer's warranty expired it cut through the wires. I had a service person come out that I paid for out of pocket, and he knew right away what the problem was. Said I would need a whole new door. I guess they don't have time to fix wires. I contacted Kitchenaid for help. Totally got the run around. They offered to send me a visa gift card for the price of the service call. The manufacturer is fully aware they have a manufacturing defect and until they reach some unknown quota of complaints, they're not about to do anything about it. Their answer is purchasing endless extended warranties for top $$$ or your outta luck. Nightmare. Thank you for your video and how not to have to buy an entire new door! Very helpful. Always remove the door to effect this type of repair. This guy may be a master engineer or mechanical engineer or whatever he said at the beginning of the video but he’s no technician and that’s the big difference here. A technician would’ve removed the door. Also, most trained technicians know that Whirlpool makes a redesign solution for this. But you’d only know this if you’re a trained refrigerator technician not some kind of fancy engineer.

    I have a Maytag washer and dryer that have been going for about 35 years. Yes I have worked on both. but the older ones are built better. As a retired GM tech this problem developed many times in "high flex" areas. I found extending the wires to move the repair out of this "high flex" area. Some of the best wire for these areas is stainless steel wire! You have to use crimp connectors, but the wire is near impossible to break. Good luck.
