This would be more pleasurable to listen to if it was read by a better reader, eg Jonathan Cecil. There are so many mistakes and corrections and gabbling, that it breaks ones concentration.

As a reviewer for the NY "Evening Mirror," he would have seen an advance copy of the Feb., 1845 "American Review" to which the real author had submitted the poem under "---- Quarles." Poe must have convinced his editor that he had permission to scoop "American Review" in his own paper, the "Mirror," and persuaded him to run it in the "Mirror" (a pedestrian daily) in the Jan. 29, 1845 edition under his own name. It is ludicrous that any editor of a newly-lauched monthly literary magazine, would have given a daily newspaper this permission. The real author was unable to reveal his identity and hence could not publicly defend himself. Poe mysteriously left the "Mirror" soon after the poem was published--I think the editor of the "Mirror" fired him for having lied about having permission to scoop "American Review."
