Regarding mortgages: the collapse of 08 was caused by pushing the African American and Latino borrowers into subprime loans even IF those borrowers were AS qualified as white borrowers. The loans were often “toxic” pick a payment loans that are useful in fix and flip situations. Those loans are toxic to the borrower that is buying a primary residence. Screw the mortgage industry. To me it was another tool to keep some from creating generational wealth. That’s the view of a “lunar” (nickname from friends) woman. It seems that “redlining” is still practiced based upon a couple of videos I have watched that outline the struggles and denials that some qualified have borrowers face. Redlining was the name given to discriminatory lending practices in the 30s. Red lines were drawn on maps to identify the predominantly black neighborhoods. Mortgages in those areas were denied because it was deemed a “high risk”. Before the 08 collapse toxic loans were sometimes pushed on some white borrowers too, but not as frequently. I learned a lot when helping my ex, who was the victim of mortgage fraud. Who put him in that position….his own family.
