Holding a directional button during dodging can change the counter. Not sure what status effects you mean.

Here is something I wrote earlier. Maybe it can be of help. Dodging certain attacks from Isshin lets Sekiro perform special counters. Holding down a directional button during the dodge will result in different counters. It's not always the same counter; e.g. holding left while dodging can result in using mortal draw, dimension slash or shuriken. It depends on which of Isshin's attacks you are dodging. In certain situations dodging gives Sekiro divine confetti protection. When Isshin's sword is glowing white it means you can only deflect his attack and not dodge it. When it is glowing red the other way around. Isshin's lightning attack at 2:32 can be deflected in the air, but not on the ground. Unlike the Delta 10 version, mortal draw attacks can no longer be deflected without divine confetti / lilac umbrella protection. His phase 2 special attack (1:05) is quite difficult to handle properly. First pay attention to whether the sword of the clone is glowing white or red. The first time he uses this attack, it will most likely glow red. Dodge to the side and attack 3 times; make sure it's 3 times, because this will make the timing of Whirlwind Slash easier. Isshin can use 3 types of attacks during his phase 2 special attack: wind attack (deflect), mortal draw (dodge) or lightning (dodge). Whirlwind Slash works against all 3 types. Whirlwind Slash is quite a long attack and can be cancelled by activating it again, so do not spam it. Activate it for Isshin's first attack, then activate it again for Isshin's second attack. Do NOT activate it for the third attack; let the animation finish. Then if you timed it correctly, Sekiro will clash with his final attack with Isshin's opening attack for one-mind (when he kneels down and unsheathes his sword). In phase 3 and 4, Isshin has a sword attack and a spear attack where he and the clone attack at the same time. You're supposed to dodge these. Deflecting these attacks has a high chance of failure. Whenever he uses the 2 strikes seen at 3:35, he will spawn a clone. Do NOT deflect the attack of this clone. Sekiro will be stuck in a long recovery animation and can get caught by Isshin's follow up attack. Potential follow up attacks are: perilous sweep, perilous thrust, double pistol shot and lightning. I recommend dodging backwards; if you dodge to the side, you can easily get caught by his perilous sweep attack. Try to remember the timing and dodge the clone attack without looking at it, and keep looking at the real Isshin, because his follow up attack is fast.

@@SilentRedGaming I only ever did 1 video for Original Isshin without buffing and that's the Delta 10 version that is still on my channel. I had 3 videos for Delta 10 with buff; those are gone, I deleted them from my drive as well. For Delta 12+ I made 3 videos, 2 were on my channel and 1 was unpublished; those are also completely gone. Then I made another 4 videos for Delta 12+. One of those was on my channel for a short time, 2 are unpublished (1 with the HUD and 1 where I took damage), and the best video for Delta 12+ is the one that is still on my channel; in that video all the counters are done as intended.

Ultimate Isshin should be no problem for you. He follows the same pattern for a very long time. The most difficult part is to attack him as many times as possible and of course to not get hit once. Original Isshin will require a lot of practice. You can learn almost everything from my video.

@@Feilboat You need to practice Original Isshin with god mode enabled. Otherwise it will never work. If you download a trainer, you can also take him down with one hit, so you can skip phases. You will need this to practice the last two phases.

Yes, you can deflect it. If I recall correctly you can not deflect the large disk at 2:10 and at 1:36 Genichiro also creates a disk if you do not clash with your mortal blade. If you're going to play a newer version (1.13 or higher) you can also deflect Genichiro's mortal draw strikes as he transitions to part 2.5.

Are you fighting him through the Reflections menu? If so, NG+ stats do not apply. Bosses in the Inner Reflections menu have fixed stats. Charmless and Demon Bell do have an effect. If you are fighting him charmless, then one hit could easily break your posture.
