No way on God's earth would I have any procedure under a local or regional anaesthetic. I had a cyst removed once from my arm under a local. Never ever again. I would want to be put out completely. I don't want to know anything. However my wife had a partial knee replacement carried out under a spinal anaesthetic. She says the whole thing great just a slight discomfort when the local anaesthetic was administered in her back to numb her skin. Me I would like my skin numbed ready for my covid jab.

This is an EXTREMELY misleading video. What is SHOWN is perfectly accurate. The problem is what is NOT shown. When the block wears off after 12 hours you will experience the worst pain you've ever experienced in your life. Ask ANYONE who has done this surgery. You will want to take oxycodone before the block wears off and continue to take it through the worst of the pain, which peaks for about four hours or so. This video gives the impression that the surgery is a piece of cake. It is NOT. Fortunately, I'd spoken to a friend who'd had it and I was prepared. If you're unprepared, you might be inclined to head for the emergency room after the pain sets in, thinking that something is wrong. It isn't. It's just excruciating. Just take pills and ride it out. Is the surgery worth it? OF COURSE it is. It it works, you'll have your shoulder back. I did both shoulders, and I have normal shoulder function. The other thing the video fails to tell you is that for at least four months, you should treat your shoulder joint as if it's held together by tissue paper. Don't make sudden movements. Don't reach for anything high up. Quite a number of people don't take this seriously and the work of the surgery is undone. The hospital that posted this video is doing patients a great disservice by painting such a rosy picture of this surgery. Should you do it? Yes, definitely, but you should go into it knowing how painful it will be and how much care must be taken with the shoulder for four months following surgery. I've had hips replaced and a spinal fusion. These are absolutely nothing compared to rotator cuff. There is no reason to have general anesthesia for this surgery. It is much safer to just have the block. You won't feel anything for 12 hours.

My brother in law had a local anaesthetic for the amputation of his leg from under the knee, or maybe it was an epidural. Anyway he was awake during it. He wanted the amputation as he was in so much pain as a result of damage caused by type 1 diabetes. If it was me for keyhole surgery I'm not sure I would want to watch it but on the other hand could I keep my eyes away? I think I would give in to the temptation to watch once I got my head around the fact that it was me on the screen, but no pain.

I'm having my surgery in 5 hours and I better be knocked out. I have a SLAP lesion, a full thickness tear of my rotator cuff, a partial detachment of my biceps and some other high grade tear that I can't remember the name of. The only thing that's not torn is my Teres. I'm getting the block and a pain pump. My surgeon said my shoulder was "a mess".

How is your shoulder post op 3mths on, iv just had surgery on mine I was told mine was in bits too. I was still lifting weights, just 30kg dumbbells inclined press with bearable pain, I was in gym 6 days a wk, I was told to stop by a surgeon or my shoulder would become totally dysfunctional, I Google the best shoulder surgeon he told me to continue weights , I just had the operation post 1 wk now, He done the operation with intension of getting me back to 95% in 12mths,

It was a full thickness superspnatus and id one small tendon intact the other one was off the bone too, the operation I got is New, I got double row of anchors and also a patch stapled over, for tendon to grown into patch it also speed recovery

@@johncarton8810 I'm doing pretty good. For my surgical repair it turned out my biceps was torn right off the bone so he had to fish out the "stump" and reattached in but not in the groove. I had a subacrimial decompression, a distal clavicle resection, everything was repaired, I had a full thickness tear plus a high grade tear of the infraspanitus, and another but I forget which was which though, I know the supraspinatus was fully torn, I had a SLAP tear as well. I'm still in PT and they're very happy with my progress. They gave me pullies and all kinds of different colored bands to take home plus a print out of every exercise I do at PT. They've started in the last 10 days of using kinesiology tape across my shoulder. Apparently it helps with healing and support. My surgeon has also told me he wants me get me to as close to 100% as possible within a year. I see him again this week. My advice is to take it easy, use ice, keep your sling on and try to get a good night's sleep. Pillows are everything for me, still. Best wishes for you as you recover. One final thing, I try to sleep in my sling (I don't need the bump out part now) anyway, when I try to sleep without it I end up with my arms above my head and my PT said that's a big no no. So I just thought I'd add that just in case you sleep in all kinds of funny positions like me.

@@Sharon-pb7so Thats great you had a fair bit of damage to get sorted, it's a long road I'm doing the silly little exercises but it's the process you have to stick with, I can't wait to get back to the gym lifting weights, but I know it will take time 6 to 12mths , to early and to soon and pop it again would be a disaster, I'm meeting my physio on the 11th to up my exercise, and see what they think I was told the procedure I had done cuts the recovery time in half , best of luck to you too.

I begged my ortho to let me stay away during my ACL repair 17 years ago, to which he agreed - I wanted to watch it on the screen....so I was duly set up with an epidural and as soon doc started inserting the laparoscope, I had convulsions. So the mask went over my face and the next thing I remember was being wheeled into recovery...... Guess I wasn’t as badass as I thought!
