Attaching and felting with the Handi Felting Foot
This is a really common issue. It is not hard to prevent these ruffles. There is a great video on how to add borders so they don't ruffle: ruclips.net/video/paIq1tkEy4A/видео.html
Great tip!
7 years ago but important for me to learn.
Which machine is this. Is it available in india
Thanks for the tip!
you explained it very well , thanks it will help me to do better borders
Great video. Thank you
Thank you.
Thank you so much. I’m fixing to do a border for the first time. Your instructions were very clear.
The thing I have never liked about this method is setting edges on the crop. It can cause ugly crop lines that overstitch as the machine tries to figure out where it needs to continue the design on the other side. I would love for someone to tell us how to do it without closing the edges in a better way than starting and stopping or burying tens of threads. Are there any cool, new ways to handle this problem?
Thank you! This was very helpful.
Great points on squaring up “before” adding adding borders .. come across this issue many times being wavy or wonky or just simply “unable” to FMQ it 👍🏼
Would have liked more of a detailed demonstration on cutting the borders and pinning. Thank you!
Thank you exactly the info I needed.
Why did you put the border on the bottom to sew it?
I think she did it so she could see the piecing direction on the top side. When the piecing is on the bottom side you might accidentally catch some of those pieced seams and see them going the wrong direction.
thanks this is the way I also add borders and it works everytime.
Would have liked to see the quilt after the repairs.
Thank you thank you thank you!!!!
Thank you so much!! is it possible to do sashiko work on the janome 500e?
also tip: Cut your borders for both sides the exact same length. (your top and bottom the same length and then both sides the same length.) its best to get the length of your border by measuring across the middle. Then, fold your border in half and fold your quilt in half. Mark where the center of whatever side you're working on and pin the center of the border strip to the middle of the quilt side. Then pin the end of the strip to the end of the quilt and the beginning of the strip to the beginning of the side. After the middle, top and end of your strip is pinned then you finish pining the border. By doing that, your basically making your quilt fit the border on both sides which will make your quilt lie flat rather then wavy like the quilt in the video. Best of Luck!
I can’t drop my feed dogs. Not all machines have that. I have a darning plate instead, haven’t used it for free motion.
Wonderful tutorial, thank you. I L❤️VE the quilt!
Do you have to have a special needle to quilt on a sewing machine?
Check your owners manual- I used Schmitz Quilting needle on my Janome. I have also used the universal needles. Hope this helps
Well said. Thank you for this informative video.
Thank you
This has been VERY helpful! Thank you.
Just got a longarm so much to learn, thank you for this lesson.
Yes, it happened to me. I basted a 6 inch strip to the backing using the channel lock on the longarm, put the red snappers back on, and finished the quilt.
Yes more than once! But do like my red snappers time saver for sure😊
Esther Thurman Thanks Esther!
Thank you for the video. I enjoyed your design choices. I’d like to see how to do a curved cross hatching design in different shapes like circle, square, triangle, diamond.
Thank you for you video, iv been pulling my hair out because the quilt top was not squaring up for me.thank you❤
You should show us how to finish the ends of the binding....... that is the tricky part.....can you do that on the longarm???
I need really NEED. that quilt pattern Ty
I will ask the lady that made it.
Great, helpful video!!!
I was confused until I realized you were writing the name from south to north 😄 Love it!!!
San Dan yes! I should have explained that I loaded the quilt sideways.
Why wouldn’t you just sew your binding all the way around one way?, as you do on a domestic machine!
On the longarm it’s easier to start at the top middle and work your way down. If you didn’t you would be rolling twice, going down one side and then back up. This way it is in one pass. Hope that answers your question.
I thought you placed boarders on sides first then top and bottom.
Thank you! 😁
Great tips. Thank you!
Where did you get the machine extension ?
Thanks for this tutoriel. It helped "A LOT". Now I know what I did wrong. Thanks again.

Thank you for sharing..
Could you show us the squaring of the quilt top prior to placing borders on?
Excellent advise
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!
Your top and bottom borders looked wavy? How can that be avoided?
Used this process for a doll quilt, fairly new to quilting, it was a disaster
Yes.. Awesome
That really will be fun. Question please how do you cut the excess batting away from the flowers before u FMQ the rest of the block
I don't cut away any excess, I add micro quilting around it to make it flat.
