Hi Ivanna, So glad to know you're interested to understand The Devil that Danced on the Water. This book tells the story of Aminatta Forna's father, Mohamed Forna, who was originally a doctor but got into politics, after seeing the dictatorship that was going on in his beloved country, and became a new star in the political firmament. Although he and his colleagues managed to bring down the dictatorial regime and introduce democracy in Sierra Leone, he was put in prison for years and, even after being let out, watched 24/7. One day, he was called out by some mysterious men and was never seen again. Aminatta Forna goes on a journey, through this book, to find out what exactly happened to his father that led to his disappearance, as she was very young at the time and couldn't understand most of what was happening. It touches on a very horrifying modern history of Sierra Leone, cultural struggle of Aminatta and her mother and a personal journey to forgive the past. Well, I hope that helps you.
