Red Blood Cell Morphology Part 5 - Bite cell/Blister cell
Просмотров 1,5 тыс.3 года назад
Bite cells are RBC with peripheral single or multiple arcuate defects (bites) caused by the removal of Heinz bodies by the spleen and are a feature of oxidant haemolysis. When the red cell membrane around the bite repairs, a blister-like structure forms, hence the term blister cell.

Red Blood Cell Morphology Part 4 - Sickle cell
Просмотров 1,2 тыс.3 года назад
Sickle cells are red cells that become crescent or sickle-shaped with pointed ends as a result of polymerisation of HbS, which is due to the replacement of glutamic acid with valine at the sixth position on the beta chain. The presence of sickle cells is a characteristic feature of sickle cell disease which includes HbSS, HbSC and sickle cell/beta thalassaemia.

Red Blood Cell Morphology Part 3 - Target cell
Просмотров 2,4 тыс.4 года назад
Target cells are thin cells with an increased surface area to volume ratio that have an area of increased staining which appears in the middle of the area of central pallor. They are associated with liver disease, thalassaemia, hyposplenism and some haemoglobinopathies.
Red Blood Cells Under the Microscope 1000X - Part 2 Teardrops and Target Cells
Просмотров 1 тыс.4 года назад
Identification of morphological abnormal red blood cells is useful in the diagnostic work-up. Target cells are associated with thalassaemia, liver disease and hyposplenism. Teardrops are found in myelofibrosis and thalassaemia. Mcroscope magnification 1000X.
Red Blood Cell Morphology Part 2 - Macrocyte
Просмотров 1,8 тыс.4 года назад
Macrocytes are enlarged red cells with a diameter greater than 8.5um (MCV more than 100fL). Macrocytes are found in megaloblastic anaemia, liver disease and alcoholism.

Are you sure that this is 400x and 1000x? Mine does only 200x with oil, but the blood cells are bigger than in your video and the first one you said would be 400x looks like mine with 20x. The eye pieces can do 10x so they can get to 1000x, but the camera piece can only do 2x.

1:42 Why is the white blood cell stationary and the red blood cells moving ? If the RBC are moving because of the force imparted to them by placing the sample on the slide, then that force should have affected the WBC as well yet it didn't. Seems to me that the WBC is stationary because it is not affected by the surrounding forces electrical / magnetic / other but the RBCs are affected. This is an important clue.
