    On the road I have a great deal of respect for trucks and their drivers. What does pee me off is a truck that pulls into the left lane, ahead of approaching vehicles, to pass a slower vehicle because it is going 3 feet per hour faster than the vehicle they are passing. Thus taking 20 minutes to pass the slower vehicle. Then have the balls to stay there to pass another vehicle that is 1/2 mile ahead.

      In vagin...oops Virginia on I-81, this is an epidemic. People will enter the interstate, immediately shoot over to the far left lane, start building a city, and refuse to move until they reach their exit where the dive for it. Cars, trucks, and semi's all do this. Not everybody does this, but way too many do.

    • @traffic.engineer

    • @redtra236
      @redtra236 4 месяца назад

      Having trucks governed to 55 when most interstates are 70-80 MPH speed limit is a HORRIBLE idea, this would cause so many accidents particularly rear end collisions. When a car hits a semi trailer at high speed the results aren't good, ask Jane Mansfield... Also it would lead to other types of unsafe driving like unsafe lane changes because cars would be constantly going around the way slower trucks. This issue already exists to a lesser extent even with trucks that can go the speed limit.

      22 states have no restrictions on trucks, whatsoever. Five states have restrictions on the Turnpikes but no restrictions in the rest of the state. There are states where there is no law but the DOTs may post restrictions, which may not be universal.

  • @idaiki

    All states should have such a law(s), and should enforce them strictly. Over the last 20000 miles, across the US, it used to just be cars hogging left lanes and slowing down traffic. I consider the rule "stay in the right lane except to pass" to only apply to highway and interstate travel, because when you're in a city and need to navigate roads, all vehicles should be getting into their needed lanes early so that they aren't causing traffic congestion or accidents by cutting in at the last second to turn. And when I see a semi truck with a turn signal on trying to get over into a different lane, I block that desired lane from behind the truck to keep people out of it, slow down, and flash my lights to let them get over as soon as possible.

    There are many foolish comments here from 4-wheelers regarding alleged use of improper lane on the part of this truck driver. Facts: 1 Motoring laws are enacted in the interest of safety. By PEOPLE who are imperfect therefore the MOTORING LAWS ARE NOT PERFECT. Moreover, these laws are often guidelines which DO NOT apply universally. Regardless of whatever law which may state otherwise, big trucks must often use lanes other thsn rightmost lane in urban areas in order to avoid structure including trees and signs. Depending on the nature of the cargo, excessively worn rightmost lanes causing extreme bouncing of cargo can also be an issue. 2 Driver of big truck was effectively overtaking a slower vehicle on his/her right. Many of you have not even given him the benefit of the doubt that it was his/her intention to return to rightmost lane following overtaking manoevre. 3 Even if truck driver continued driving in left lane for some legitimate reasons as described above, traffic can still safely and effectively overtake him/her on right therefore he/she is not impeding traffic flow. 4 Driver of white vehicle illegally overtook big truck using center turning lane. Apparently for no reason other than self-righteous impatience. Unless, of course, he is another self-appointed harbinger of correct driving practices. 5 Driver of white vehicle immediately merged right unlawfully and dangerously close to big truck then tapped his/her brakes in an apparent brake-check tactic. Brake-checking is a felony crime (not a misdemeanor) punishable by incarceration in some circumstances. Driver of white vehicle was twice automatically at fault and, had there been a collision, would AUTOMATICALLY be found at fault. NO driver has authority under law to act as a vigilante. Not even police officers. Persons doing so risk extreme penalties under law including incarceration. ALL drivers must prioritize safety. ANY driver who cannot control his/her emotions behind the steering wheel should not drive. Period. Because driving is a privelege, not a right. ANY persons presuming to criticize the driving practice(s) of the operator of a big truck should first educate/re-educate themselves on their responsibilities and obligations when driving around bugtrucks as well as those of the truck driver. Criticize truck drivers all you want. None of your criticism can change the fact that VIRTUALLY EVERY ASPECT OF YOUR LIFE, FROM SUNRISE TO SUNSET, WAS RENDERED BETTER BY TRUCKS AND TRUCK DRIVERS. Drive safely.
