We did not know at the time that those Sierra engines delivered (off boost) only about as much power as a contemporary normally aspirated road going 1.6 litre hatchback. The fact that anyone could drive those Shell Sierras still astounds me given that fact. Most of the other Sierras were much more forgiving in their power curves though perhaps that was why the Johnson Sierras were also arguably the fastest.
