Tips on how to time plantings of pumpkin and squash intended for winter storage. The variety in the video is Waltham Butternut and is a 100 to 105 day maturity so the 120 day from frost date. By delaying planting, fruits mature later and are in storage for a shorter time before consuming, meaning less chance of spoiling and being in a fresher state.

The paw paw here are best when skin turns black. Split the persimmon seeds in half to expose either fork, knife or spoon to determine winters forecast.

Thank you. Everywherehas it'sown specialties. We have many different types of wild fruits and nuts here but not many different mushrooms, fall mushrooms are especially in short supply.

Thank you. It was 38° on the day that I recorded the video, perfect watermelon eating weather. The pumpkins are from some volunteer plants growing along a field, I been going to make soup some evening when it cools off a bit.

Variety shown is Waltham Butternut, a 100 to 105 day maturing variety, rule of thumb is maturity days plus 10 to 15 days.

Thank you. They are not normally grown here either, they are I believe a vegetable from the tropics and sub tropics of Asia. Much of what I grow is not the normally grown varieties, I try different vegetables to see if different ones are more suitable and reliable are available.

@chupacabraracing181 in the United States Baker Creek Heirloom Seeds, website seeds@rareseeds.com. is the only source that I know of. I hope that you have wonderful luck growing them and enjoy them as much as I do.

@@chupacabraracing181I'd certainly like to hear about your experience with them in the future. Another interesting melon is the Kaho watermelon, salmon orange flesh with hints of mango in the flavour in a small oval melon. It does well in large containers and can be trellised. If you are interested I did a video with it in 2 years ago, it's the 15th video on the channel and it is about checking for ripeness on these small melons.

@flamingoterracegarden thank you. it's just me so I do like the smaller melons. These get to 2 to 3 kg, the first one is a bit smaller. This variety does well in large pots and can be trellised to save space too.

Thank you. This variety can get larger, 2 to 3 kg. This is a small Japanese variety that has shorter vines than the large melons and it does well trellised.

We grow the sugar babies some years. This year I have some Minnesota midget cantaloupe, will be trying the first one soon.
I have grown both in the past when I grew for farmers market and they are fine melons.

This is not a Fava bean, Fava beans are larger and flat seeded, these are small and round, very hard and are sometimes ground into a flour the pods of these have 4 wings on them as well. I do also grow Fava beans. This is a tropical plant that likes really warm weather, 35 to 40c and high humidity. It is also a climber and will grow to lengths of 6+ metre in length. Young leaves are also edible and are cooked like spinach.

It's an Italian variety. There is a seed distributor that imports them from Italy and I get their catalog and purchase from them.

Thank you. This is quite different than most pumpkin or squash that we in the west are familiar with, much more like a melon and the cooked taste is between a cucumber and a zucchini! I had my first experience with eating these after seeing them in a Chinese grocery. I bought a small piece of one of the giant bullethead variety and used it for making winter melon pork soup. I purchased the first seed from a seed supplier specializing in Japanese and other seeds from Asia.

Лунный цветок и правда великолепен 🥰, и гладиолусы обещают быть потрясающими. У меня нет в саду гладиолусов. Когда-то давно были, но мне не удалось сохранить зимой луковицы. Можно было бы купить новые, но я боюсь, что они тоже пропадут. Я хранила их в банке с опилками и все луковицы за зиму съели мыши 🤷♀️

Thank you for watching and commenting. It does look like a hibiscus but this plant is an annual that I start from seed every year and is related to peppers and eggplant. The flower opens in the evening and starts to close by noon. The seed pods are round and covered in spikes almost like dull thorns. I do want to get some more hardy hibiscus from the neighbor next spring and some more Rose of Sharon too
