Activated Charcoal Mechanism of Action Activated charcoal adsorbs ingested toxins within the gastrointestinal tract preventing the systemic absorption of that toxin. Activated charcoal only adsorbs toxins that are in the dissolved liquid phase via direct contact. This attempt to shift the equilibrium in favor of activated charcoal/toxin complexes is the rationale for dosing activated charcoal to activated charcoal: toxin ratio of 10 to 1 (see below). Activated charcoal best adsorbs toxins in their nonionized forms. Polar, water-soluble molecules are less likely to be adsorbed. Due to the pharmacodynamics of activated charcoal, it best absorbs nonpolar, poorly water-soluble organic toxins.[12] Most ingested toxins will have decreased systemic absorption in the presence of activated charcoal, including acetaminophen, aspirin, barbiturates, tricyclic antidepressants, theophylline, phenytoin, and a majority of inorganic and organic materials.[13][14][15][14] It is important to note that activated charcoal does not effectively adsorb alcohols, metals such as iron and lithium, electrolytes such as magnesium, potassium, or sodium, and acids or alkalis due to the polarity of these substances. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK482294/

That was very moving . As a father who raised my son , 2 step sons , 2 adopted daughters and 2 adopted sons , I agree all children deserve every good thing . Like most people in America I can trace back roots to imagrants , on my fathers side 400 years back . My wife is first generation Italian. I see what in someone's heart before I see color in their skin . Having said that , what's happening on our boarder is a disaster ! President Obama set up the program to separate children from the adults at the boarder correctly because they were finding them weeks later , sexually abused beaten and dead in dumpsters . The value of children and human life are very different in very poor places than in America . Different even in American slums than American suburbs.
