Conversation Café
Канада
Добавлен 11 июл 2022
Conversation Café is an initiative to get people engaging about important matters in peaceful, creative ways. The exchange of ideas invariably creates tensions. Of late, however, the activity comes at a higher cost than usual. Amidst disease, polarization, censorship, fear and centralized planning who dares to weigh in? But engage we must if we are to tease out the common ground without ripping apart our whisper thin fragility of connection.
Palestinian Christian Voice on Israel/Palestine: Dr. Salim Munayer
Dr. Salim Munayer and Phil Wagler of Peace and Reconciliation Network: World Evangelical Fellowship join me to discuss the ongoing war in Gaza and how the Western Christian should respond.
Dr. Munayer offers a Biblical understanding of the history of the Jews and their relationship to the land that they are desperate to reclaim.
There are few in the world who are listening to Palestinian Christians and the distrust that our response or lack of it, is causing great harm to our family of faith in the Middle East.

A Case For Unvaccinated Health Care Workers

In this video lawyer Charlene Le Beau lays out her defense for health care workers in British Columbia at the BC Supreme Court. Among her arguments is the fact that new employees to the healthcare setting are required to get the newest vaccine for the SarsCoV2 virus, and yet those health care workers who received the primary series in 2021 are not. If the original vaccine was effective, why is ...

Peace Sunday at Metro

Thank you Metro for allowing me to offer thoughts on the subject of peace. We as Christians, are called to be ambassadors of a reconciling God, as an expression of love in Christ. There is no need to make peace with friend; it is the enemy we target for we were once the enemy of God. Loving those who love us back is earthly, we are called higher. Thank you for taking the time to listen.

Conversation Cafe's interview with Dr. Jay Bhattacharya: Public Health response to COVID-19.
Beautiful!
I'm no Biblical scholar... far from it... but as I've said elsewhere: "And none are more confused than Christians who believe they are called to worship Jews. In fact, Christianity teaches that unrepentant Jews are going to Hell, so nothing is more ludicrous than a Christian financially supporting a "Jewish state". What? Funding those bus tickets to Hell, are you? Among other things, much of this confusion stems from the passage in Genesis which reads in part: "I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse" By "you", God is referring a people... basically an extended family... known as "Israel" in biblical times, not the STATE of Israel. That passage was written over 3000 years ago, whereas the State of Israel didn't exist until 1948. The passage did NOT go on to say "but all this blessing and cursing will need to be back-burnered for a few millennia until the STATE of Israel pops up!" It wasn't talking about the "state", it was referring to a PEOPLE, which in fact many present-day "Israelis" (i.e., citizens of the STATE) have little or no connection to."
What a fantastic conversation. More space must be made for these voices.
Dr. Munayer is coming to BC and Alberta in November, I will keep you posted
So good to hear these important perspectives. Please come to Canada to speak on these things.
Agreed!
I appreciated this video. I hope it is seen on a wide basis as (sadly) the vast majority of Christendom is ignorant of God's interaction with national "Israel" today.
Traditional Jewish law (halacha) is a man made law and you can choose to leave the Jewish faith at anytime even If your mother was a so called Jew.

One piece of news that I recently became aware of -- that might be of interest. Australia's ABC News put out a RUclips video reporting on the "World's largest study in Covid vaccine side-effects." It was a study that included Australia, the UK, and Canada and about 5 other countries -- not the USA. Approximately 90 million people who received one of the three major vaccines -- Moderna, Astra-Zeneca, Pfizer -- and over 200 million jabs.
First point: I want to assume -- and please correct me if wrong -- that if you or a loved one was bitten by a rabid animal -- heaven forbid -- that there would be no hesitation to starting the series of anti-rabies vaccine injections. There is no natural immunity to rabies. It is fatal to any mammal that contracts it. If a principle to preserve life is most important, what I am trying to assume should be self-evident.
There are religious sects who claim to follow the Bible -- who will allow a loved one to die rather than to violate their interpretation of scripture. There is one sect that comes to mind that has had an admonition against blood transfusions. I am certain that Rabbi Shapiro would agree 100% that a commandment can be violated in order to save a life. If it means violating the Shabbat to drive a person to a hospital, a thousand people will be willing to violate it to drive that person. The same is true with blood.
Thanks for the comment!. I think you are comparing a vaccine for rabies to the mRNA vaccine that for the moment, targets COVID-19, correct? I think you are saying that both vaccines target an otherwise unstoppable disease, which embodies the principle of saving life. If I got this much right then I would ask what makes the two diseases comparable? Thank you for engaging.
@@conversationcafe6674 and thank you for your reply! I think I am stepping back and trying to discern a principle that might help to guide decisions and actions that take us towards our spiritual mission -- or take us farther away from the target. To answer your question, bacteria and viruses that attack the body come in many different forms. Rabies is at an extreme end of the spectrum in that it is unstoppable without treatment. SARS-Cov-2 is nowhere near as lethal. But I wanted to register my agreement that the directive that new workers were forced to get vaccinated while those previously vaccinated were exempted -- makes absolutely no sense at all, and does not follow the science.
In the 60 days since first viewing, I purchased the book and currently am in Chapter 5. I appreciate even more your question about why Rabbi Shapiro wrote it. Now, after even more has occurred in Israel-Palestine, I confess that what he writes about the "galus" (exile) causes me to feel dread. I think others who read Chapter 5 might understand.
Regarding the end of the time and return of Masiah, muslims believe the same thing about how beautiful the world becomes. The difference is we believe it starts with coming of Mahdi ( aj) and then Masiah join him.
None of us can force our beliefs on others, but it is wonderful to converse about our beliefs without the threat of violence. Thank you for commenting.
Beautiful world after the apocalypse?! What a grim joke!... I'm an atheist because religion is so full of absurdities that only a sick religious mind can believe things like what you just wrote. I don't doubt something like the apocalypse will happen, only because the religious people want the apocalypse to happen, so they can raise their holy books and claim *"see, we were always right about god and the holy scriptures!"* You religious people are destroying the actual world hoping for a better world to come. A better world will never come and the only thing you'll leave for your future kin is hell on earth.
So much respect for Rabbi Yaakov from a Afghan Muslim. I wish Rabbi would also reach out to Muslim imams like Safina Society on RUclips. His words and thoughts are very much needed. ❤
Thank you so much for presenting this -- as heartbreaking as it is.
You are welcome. I just listened to Sam Harris podcast on Jihadist warfare: the Jihadist "loves death more than [others] love life." I'm wanting to explore the strategy to combat this mindset. Thanks for watching.

golda meir was not racist , she was speaking the truth, jewish , muslim and christian people existed but a palestinien people did not exist. it has nothing to do with violance or racist, that was just truth telling, golda had a palestinien passport, the palestinien identity was invented by the british mandate to all people, jews , muslim and christian. if you read the ottoman documents about the presence of arabs in the lang of israel you will find that they migrated along the time the zionists started to construct the jewish state, al jazeera is not a good source for anything, its owned by the same people who sponsor hamas and propogate propoganda against israel. you should read the books by benni moris and rivka shpeck , both are modern historians that are conflicting in opinion, benny moris mentions an existance of an arab people nd rivka used the ottoman census and shown that they weren't there until it was more economic to be around the area. there was a very small presence of all 3 relligions in israel and you have different documents on how the land was barren and the only arabs around the area were beduwins that were reluctant to cultivate the land. you had even jewish sumeritans there. al jazeera propogates antisemitism. calling jews racist based on what they say is kafkaik. the palestiniens were no more but an extension of the pan-arabic revolution that concluded in the seperation of transjordan from palestine, sadly for the other hamulas the hashemite monarch took over and they got greedy.
Thanks for the comment. I read some of Benny Moris, and will look at rivka Shpeck. The fact remains that 700,000 people were driven from their homes to make way for the people of Israel. As I said, under the stress of the situation, they formed their identity. Ms. Meir was attempting to make the point that there were not an identifiable people that were displaced. Ask the people who were driven from their land. They are real, they lived in homes that were taken from them, they suffered at the hands of the Israelis.
Rabbi Shapiro thank you for educating us. Your words are so inspiring and comforting to me.
With all due respect Rabbi, do you really consider Ivanka Trump and her husband good examples of what Jews and Judaism are supposed to represent? Are there any better examples of a convert to Judaism currently or in history? I understand that our current culture "worships" celebrities, however famous or infamous.
No Jew "represents" Jews and Judaism. The best example of a convert would be Ruth, the grandmother of King David, after whom the rules of Jewish conversion are modeled.
Thanks rabbi, respect, the only one truth, we are all one, humanity first, hope people know the one truth and have peace worldwide, God bless you ❤❤❤

The Empty Wagon: Zionism's Journey From Identity Crisis To Identity Theft
What a bullshit. You still can believe in god while being a zionist or Israeli. 😮 Every jew at least once a year is a zionist by quoting - next year in Jerusalem.
Thanks for commenting. I don't think the Rabbi was saying that a person cannot be both a Zionist and believe in God. He is saying that Zionism is not Judaism.
Not only jewish people are zionists, many christians are zionists too. Jerusalem is holy to everyone, so anyone can end their prayers saying "next year in Jerusalem"... does that make someone a zionist?

@@sagn1962 What's the point? The fact that he is ignoring that Jews pray for jerusalem every day is an indication how fake he is. Even the koran talk about the right of jews to live in israel.
As a Palestinian, I will never claim a land that God "bestowed on me." I also will not kick people out because of who they are. This war and it's history was nothing but being conquered. Then when the English promised us a state, Israel came to be and our family was massacred and kicked out of our own home. This isn't a religious issue, this is a human rights for a stateless people issue. I agree soo much the Christians are insane. They just want us to die for their own ends. Why would Jesus be proud of his own "followers" killing their cousins and so on. They are utterly insane.
Thank you for your comment. The situation is insane, not the Christians. It is always better to attack an idea rather than a people. The issue involves religion because religious people involve themselves by lending support to one side or the other, it is the same with politics. When better information is presented those involved have an opportunity to determine if their current course supports their values and goals. This is what I'm hoping this interview will do in part.
yep, maybe i generalized Christians when I should have been more specific. I agree on this issue. It's not about picking a side for me. It's about what we have now and how do we move forward for everybody. This issue only ends when we decide to talk rather than fight. @@conversationcafe6674
Yes, I was pointin out the radical bible thumpers that push for this war. I agree with not generalizing. @@conversationcafe6674
Yes that happened a long time ago you have to be resilient and move on. Palestine could have been a state and they did not want it. You have to look at positives and stop lamenting what has been. We all suffer we lick our wounds and move on knowing that there is a reason for everything. At least you had a family many don't. Many like the hostages who have lost loved ones.
Agreed
Zionists don't believe in God but they insist God gave them Palestine 😂
Some Christians are Zionist, and they believe in God, but I think the Zionist are misguided.

If you want to know what this Rabbi really thinks of gentiles then simply ask him to place his hand on a Torah and ask him. You may be quite shocked.
I'm a gentile -- a Noahide actually -- and I've gotten to know orthodox rabbis. Before I understood what I know of Judaism, I probably had a lot of misconceptions.
It was similar for myself. Thanks for watching.
Tribe first, then came Torah. Israel is the homeland of the Children of Israel. Even the Quran states that in no uncertain terms. How else is it possible that Muhummad is mentioned 4 times while Moses is mentioned 136 times. @@yabits
@@adamk5700 When Torah came to the world via the nearly two-million assembled at Mount Sinai -- some of whom were not Hebrews, but Egyptians ("mixed-multitude") -- it would take nearly 40 years for them to enter the "promised land" -- which was only a day or two away. Forty years. Coming in to that land came with strict conditions. Every observant Jew will attest to this. Failing to meet those conditions would get them expelled. This is why prophets were sent to keep warning them.
@@yabits ok there were conditions . However nobody is perfect and secondly 0.02% of middle east as a homeland for the Jews while their cousins the Arabs inherit the other 99.98% is the reality Seems fair. Right???
Really?? Israel only occupies 0.02% of Middle East while the Muslim Arabs occupy 99.98% of Middle East by way of 22 Muslim Arab League states. Zionism is the movement to restablish the homeland of Children of Israel ( regardless of level of observancy) in order they have a safe place to reside. This Rabbi seems to forget that 850,000 Arabic Jews forced out of Arab states post 1948. This Rabbi shoud simply stay in his study enjoy his peaceful existance in US and not bother visiting Israel.
Perhaps you're forgetting that Arab Jews were able to exist peacefully in Muslim societies for centuries prior to the growth of Zionist nationalism. Rabbi Shapiro is well aware of the work of many, such as Arab-Jewish historian, Avi Shlaim -- born in Baghdad in the mid 1940s -- and author of "Three Worlds: Memoirs of an Arab-Jew." Rabbi Shapiro has a series of podcasts at the site "Committing High Reason."
Avi Shlaim goes into great detail explaining that 1/3 of Bagdads citizens were Jews. However the Jews did experience certain negative experiences ie Farhood. However post 1948 the Jews came under attack by the Istichlas party ( Arab Nationists) who introduced laws similar to Nurenberg before forcing them to emigrate. Jews have always been a minority in Musim Arab society and subjected to usual treatment that minorities in Arab society experience. In any event Irsael occupies 0.02% of middle east in the area that Quran says that were assigned to Jews. Israel was created as a homeland for Jews regardless of their level of observancy. Rabbi Shapiro also subscribes to the idea that Jews ruling Israel is preventing the Messiah from returning. When Messiah returns, all Jews return to Israel to rule. These Rabbis all consider the "soul" of Jews to be higher and more valuable than a non Jew. The majority of Jews in Israel like Arabs more than they like ultra observant Jews. Thats a fact@@yabits
@@adamk5700 A quick, hopefully simple, yes or no question: Do you believe that what is written in the Torah is true?
@@yabits to the best of my knowledge yes however to be honest I spent far more time reading Quran
I fully agree with the idea that the jewish people need security and have to be protected against persecutions by non jewish people. But I think the best protection available is liberal democracy with secular rule of law. Nothing better exists. If someone harms or kills a jew, he'll face justice and will go to jail or may even be sentenced to capital punishment. It doesn't matter how much of the middle east is occupied by Israel. It's foolish to think the arabs will disappear. Israel can wipe the palestinians out of this world, but palestinians are only a small part of the arab people. Altogether the arabs are something around 350 millions, if I'm not mistaking myself. Israel will always be surrounded by arabs. You should try to envision the future of Israel, not only decades forward, but most important, centuries forward. History teaches us that power comes and goes. Anglo power is declining and Israel's power is very dependent on anglo power (USA, UK, Canada, Australia and New Zealand). If you want Israel to be safe in the future, you have to differentiate between security and defense. Israel has the best defense but doesn't have security. Security has to do with the environment that surrounds you, and the feeling of trust. In your city some neighborhoods are more safe than others. They are more prosperous, have better opportunities for business and employment and so forth. You feel safe and trusting living in such a neighborhood. The middle east is a big neighborhood and Israel isn't making things better for it's long term future.

Yes, I've read both these words in the Torah.
