J ROBERT CLARK - Makes

Welcome to J ROBERT CLARK - Makes
This channel is part "how-to" - I share tips and tricks to help makers up their game. But more so, it's a "why not" - as in why not build an elaborate, working chainsaw prop for my son this Halloween?!
You don't have to be a maker to enjoy my channel. I combine many things - science, design, engineering - and lots of creating. Besides film-inspired props, I also make contraptions for my shop like jigs, storage, and other DIY stuff. Best of all, I like to push the limits of what I can do, often experimenting with new techniques and tools.
The goal is to teach, entertain, and - most of all - have fun.
Let's make!

Funny I did the same thing to mine soon as I got it!
Great hack! None available when I looked at Amazon, but found at Wmart for $16.99 + tax, free shipping. Arrived late today, will install tomorrow, and be thankful for the rest of the planer's life! J. Robert, thanks for showing us all how to shave the neat way!
Thanks for the video. Picked up the same planer last weekend. With a little bit of elbow grease and a new belt it works great. Also did the dust collector hack. Thanks again for this video.
That's a nifty little planer, too. I've owned one since 2003. Punches waaay above its class, I can promise tou that. The shavings make excellent campfire tinder.
That was cool
Great tip sir Thanks for this information 👍🏻 👌🏽 🙏🏻 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤
Great hack ! I was just tuning up my planer 20 minutes ago (new blades) saw this and you have solved an annoying issue. Thanks...bigly !
$15 bucks, super simple, catches almost everything, thanks for posting J Robert.
Awesome solution man!!!!
Just found this hack. Got the part (which is still being mfg'd) and put it together. Works great!
Rubbing alchol works as activator.
Great Video
Almost sold my planer until I found this. You’re a genius
Hi sir I’m having a bit of a problem I have a 420 cc motor for go kart On side was wires for low oil pressure I removed the whole seems to be 716 So I get a tap of 7/16 -20 and start to tap hole seems to work a lil but over all not working out rite ? What am i doing wrong
Thank you for the tip. I ordered one from your link!
Perfect. Ty
Thanks this was a great find. Was just about to buy the $75 delta adapter. Used your link instead, thanks again!
Does this work enough for brush marks?
I like it. Currently looking for ideas for garage storage.
I have a #61-80 set and the only use I have found for them so far is checking the size of bleed ports and metering jets on aircraft carburetors (aircraft mechanic).
I did this to my older Ryobi planer that is similar. Used the Lowes 14in nozzle. Probably get 90-95% of the chips and dust. Thanks for the video.
sooooo.... what if (That used to be a very, very old slogan of Hewlett Packard, like circa 1988...), yea so, what if I first sand it with 1000 graduate through 1500, 2000, to 3000. I'm not looking for a mirror finish, but heck, how about satiny finish....
Hello, the gloves are a bad idea
Speed it up, put the tap in a cordless drill. In and out in 2 seconds.
How do i stop it from frosting the area i glued?
The video reminds me of the Anal Retentive Carpenter skit.
One thing you missed in the very end, you don't need the specialised uncure. CA glues let go almost instantly when exposed to acetone, so most nail polish removers will also work. :)
Boom! Awesome, grateful, blessings to you Sir.
Outstanding!
Luckily it's just Alum and not much surface to tap. Anything else and I would always use a tapping block.
Hope all is well... its been a while.
I could never imagine using a table saw without a riving knife. It drastically increases the danger of cutting for me. Do you have the ¼-20 hole underneath the insert plate where the original knife was mounted? It might be worth trying to make an aluminum angle riving knife or short splitter in there somehow. I got lucky, and my blade alignment is a hair under .001" on my saw.. and even with that, I've had riving knives save me many a time (and i use one-way roller hold downs, as well as one-way roller type featherboards. I can't afford to take any chances.
Is that the 315? I just got the 315.228310, brand new, for $50. But no fence rails. It has the new dust cover riving knife (but i removed the cover part and kept the knife. But its aggravating so im looking for a better way. However, I'm not a fan of splitters... so i might nake my own dust cover that mounts to the single ¼-20 under the plate. With that said, im liking the aluminum aspect. I really like the version from Infinity... but its ½ the price I paid for a new fence/rails lol... so its not easy to pull the trigger and buy one.
Can you provide info on the casters you used?
What do you do if its excessive?
Dude how long are you holding that pipe in place after it's bendy?
Instead of manually eyeballing the tap straight, a lot of taps have a hole at the top, you can put a pin in the chuck of your drill press and center up on the tap for a guaranteed straight hole
my friend congrats for all you are doing you are very clever you help many people i wish you always well. if it is easy for you can you tell me how to find this round with the spring and what is its name thanks Spyros !!!👍
Do not underestimate the value of a full face shield if you are cutting up lots of metal. I once had a cutoff disc break and it embedded a shard of blade halfway through my face shield. If i hadnt been wearing it, id have a lot less lip than i do now.
Thanks for sharing this. Safety first, always.
I'm going to be a comment hog. I'm paying more attention to your video now and realizing that I have the exact same Dremel yes it's about 25 years old I'd say . I changed the brushes I didn't even know brushes existed in this thing. It's always good to have a friend that lives up north and they have to depend on themselves to fix things so he told me about the brushes and I changed them in the Dremel was back to his old self but you mentioned a coupling I'm going to be dumb here and admit that I don't know what that is and could you please tell me in a comment❤
What a moronic video. next time mix the baking soda and use it properly.
Les then .002 of an inch run out not bad for a drill press!
Does Baking Soda ACTUALLY work to BOND BETTER OR ?
Thank you for the reverse thread comment! I was wondering...
Ohhhhh I just bought that exact plastic organizer thanks for the idea. I bought it at the dollar store but they run out quickly so if you ever see one get two
Now try it with the drill head down a few inches.
Subscribed🎉
What a fantastic hack! I was ready to order the shop vac floor attachment from Amazon and then remembered I might have one in my shop that's not being used. Sure enough I had one! I used two self tapping screws rather than the drilled/tapped approach in the video. Works like a charm.
Activator does NOT make the bond stronger. It makes it weaker, but it sets much faster. The strongest bond is to use no activator, but takes much longer to cure.
I used that a long tim ago , unfortunately i kept getting clogs so i broke down and bought the dust chute good luck
