I can't understand he's enjoying the company of young and beautiful women and calling it sufism. I was born into the house of sufism and read all the literature. The true spirit of Islam is completely missing and it's not what Prophet told us to do. So sad people who haven't any idea about sufism and misrepresenting it. Read Baba Farid, Nizam ud din olia, Mian Muhammad Baksh, Khwaja Moin ud din, Rumi and who can be a more sufi than Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jelani (R.A).

Good conversation about SUFISM. The word SUFISM may not be that 'pleasant' for a person like me , who is from PAKISTAN & INDIA. The reason ?------ SUFI has gotten a bad connotation/reputation-------that a person SUFI is simplistic , almost stupid!! This does not mean that the word SUFI itself is bad. Actually the word SUFI itself may have its root from word SAFA -----SAFA means goodness , purity. So SUFI is a good man. But unfortunately in Indo-PAK culture, the word SUFI has been wrongly associated with someone who is plain,simple ,almost stupid----it is a wrong cultural misconduct to create an inferior reputation about SUFI. So what is a better English word for SUFI. I think best meaningful words are-----Spirituality & Spiritualist , Or Mysticism and Mystic. To make this much more specific is Unitarian Spirituality & Unitarian Spiritualist OR Unitarian Mysticism & Unitarian Mystic. SUFI is UNITARIAN -----believes and practices UNITY of us all -------there is ONE Super-power who/which is doing this all around us and inside us all. And this Unitarian practice leads us to Positive Connection with us all-----within us and around us. This Positive Connection may be called LOVE , that is fine. But in English , the word LOVE has been contaminated with sexuality etc. " We are just friends , not lovers----here lovers means sexuality." SUFI is practitioner of UNITARIAN SPIRITUALITY-----with this UNITY PRACTICE , a behavior of Positive Connection flows in -------a state of PEACE within and around. This may be called Spiritual Meditation/ Practice , Divine Meditation etc -------but the ultimate ,underlying them is UNITY------UNITY of us all. UNITARIAN SPIRITUALITY and UNITARIAN SPIRITUALIST /SPIRITUAL PRACTITIONER ----are much more expressive & descriptive words than SUFISM or SUFI.

Can someone explain to me if you can be a Sufi but from another religion? Is there a strong connection with Islam and Sufism?

The ego makes one cling to their beliefs "us against them." Christians war within their sects, Muslims war within their sects. Christians and Muslims war against each other. By destroying another human being we destroy ourselves, our children and the earth. Whom among us is wise enough to see God in everyone? Whom among us feels peace within no longer needing to validate it by "religious practice or another practitioner?" Find the source of peace and joy located in the great Masters who resonate within you yourself. Love everyone. Feed Everyone. Meditate.

You might have forgotten about Egypt. They have a long lineage of amazing Sufi teachers.

Pir Shabda Khan is one of the most amazing Sufi Muslim Masters of our time , actually the word Islam has two meanings : 1- The institutional Religion of Islam which was created by the Umayyads and in this sense we should go beyond this islam 2- Islam as a spiritual " Surrender " to the Divine , to unite all the qualities of Allah in a non dual way and be united with Allah and in this sense we are all Sufi Muslims whether Traditional Sufi Muslims or non Traditional Sufi Muslims and this was the path of all Prophets and teachers of wisdom as Quran says that Abraham was Muslim , Joseph was Muslim , Noah was Muslim , Jesus was Muslim etc all were Sufis who " surrendered " to God even the last words of Jesus in the Bible was about the ' Surrender ' of His Soul , that's it ,. in Arabic Islam means Surrender hence we are Sufi Gnostic Muslims .
