    The instructions on this puzzle say the snake cannot touch orthogonally which I had to look up but basically means adjacent. It says it can touch diagonally. So how can two sides of a square in the snake be touching in your example here? Edit: typing it out helped me figure it out. I wasn't connecting the fact it can't "touch" orthogonally

It knew about your work with sequencing DNA and personalized medicine and concluded with "Snyder's work is making a difference in the world. His research is helping to advance science and his writing is helping people to learn about problem-solving. He is a true inspiration to people in many different fields.", which I totally agree with. Bummed I couldn't make it out to NPL this year (I also don't like flats) hopefully I'll meet you at some puzzle event in the future. P.S. Chat GPT and Bard still don't know who I am.

    Thank you for sharing (and for inspiring). Random aside: it's quite normal and common in videogames for players to stockpile consumable inventory items and then never use them out of fear of not having them when they're actually needed. I even know of one game that can reward players with a passive stat boost for doing so. So don't think that bit unusual.

    At 3:03 you say "it's not gonna be a division". Couldn't it be 12 = (3/2)*(3+5)? If I'm not mistaken, the rules do not state that at every step there has to be an integer result.

    • @drsudoku
      @drsudoku Год назад

      It looks like the rules don't explicitly require integer values for the cages, but this is the norm for all TomTom type puzzles so was going to be in my head when I said 12 won't be coming from a division (in other words, I was seeing a 3,2 cage as being able to be 1, 5, and 6). If we ever post another one of these we will make that distinction more explicit if the author used it.

    Thank-you for continuing to provide an insight into how a great setter and solver thinks. I particularly love tight-fit sudoku since I came across it in the WPF contests in 2022 because you can have varying ranges of digits and yet provide a fun satisfying solve in a relatively smaller sudoku grid. I also appreciate the aesthetics of a well-designed puzzle and I really enjoy every GM puzzle I see having a very clear visual theme in the way clues and given digits are placed, which inspires me to continue setting similarly aesthetically pleasing puzzles.
