I own a previous version of Amplug that dutifully keeps on doing a very satisfactory job. Besides its good sound, solidity and practicality, I really appreciate the fact that it is powered by two AAA batteries and not a rechargeable one. Nowadays with a power bank recharging is no longer a problem, even in a hut in the forest, but in the old days it was!
I've had one for a couple of years. Got it as a Stupid Deal of the Day. It's a decent little practice tool.
I've just bagged one for £99. Great demo mate. Carlo 👍🏼🎸
Nice one James! That little thing is pretty good! For something you can use with phone headphones it's great! It actually sounded quite similar to your AC15, some really nice tones too! I can understand why it probably wouldn't be very useful for a lot of people, but it would be great for someone like a bedroom player or someone who doesn't wanna annoy the neighbours! 😁🤘🏻
I’ve had THR C as a home amp for about 9 years. Recently I bought a spark 2 because I thought the feature set was enticing. However in my opinion the THR is a superior sounding amp. The response is outstanding and the damn thing just sounds great. The spark is just overloaded and I’m I plug and play dude. Plus I use my tone and volume knobs a lot. The spark isn’t very responsive in that manner. It’s going back tomorrow. This is just an opinion and like everything else in guitardom it’s subjective..
Nice one James! I was wrong again haha! I think that just shows either Solid state and Tube amps are quite similar, or my ears aren't very good haha! 😂😂🤘🏻🤘🏻
I'm an older learner. I got my first tube amp this year. I love it so much. The way it starts to get fuzzy when it gets hot is exactly what I like.
I think solid state is B. Because it has wide frequency response range, it feels chunkier. Rig A was with bigger/more speakers, than C. Most of time I play solid state amps, and neither A and C didn't sound familiar...
A. Tube B. Solid State C. Tube Amp with a Rat
I think that C is solid state.
B for beeeees🐝
Maybe would be a bit too obvious, but C sounds like it's the solid state
Is it just me or does this sound amazing?
I think so
I think Rig C is the solid state rig, just sounded different to the others. But who knows, I was totally wrong with the cheap to expensive rig video! 😂😂
Nope! 😅
This sounds like a bitcrusher with wet/dry knob set on the dry side. I wonder if the effect would stack well with a Wavecrush or Mainframe.
Way clearer through the effects loop, better note definition. More chunk, less crinkling tin foil sound. Thank you.
Really interesting, thanks 👍
Great video James, really cool to hear about the history of how music was recorded and presented in different formats. Quite interesting indeed how things have progressed over time. Nowadays it's all about digital downloads and streaming, in a way you have to give Lars Ulrich's favourite site Napster some credit for that 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yamaha THR10 has been my number one choice for making music. I have Boss Katana Artist mk 2 and Dream 65 pedal and Audient Sono pedal preamp interface. But Yamaha THR is always on. It has speakers for monitoring, or watching guitar videos from RUclips. It is also an interface and the THIRD amp. I've used it on so many demos and even official releases over the last couple of years. I'm 48 now and I think it's the best guitar gear I've ever bought aside from my Stratocaster. The reason is that it made me create music more. It has usb stereo feed so you can use it on any DAW for stereo recording. The amp also has a flat setting which is very useful for keyboards. And it can record DI, so everything can be revamped if needed, but often times I just use the Crunch and the Lead settings. And like you said, it is a dream practice amp for "boomers" (Gen X). Even Dan Steinhardt from That Pedal Show likes it! 😅
Thr=quality Spark=quantity. You pays your money. They are both pretty amazing. But Yamaha wins for me
You're not alone, I just purchased my first Spark 2 amp. I was originally using a Boss Katana Gen 2 but was angered when certain patches were only compatible with the new Gen 3 Katana. I really liked the fact that the PG software works across all their products.
Thanks for the review!
Some crazy looking guitars James! I actually thought the dragon one looked alright. The second one was just insane! 😂😂 The "PRS" looked interesting, but clearly someone just wanted to put a PRS neck on a Tele body. The last one looked ok, but on further inspection it looked a little wonky 😂😂
Always good to experiment placement till it sounds great!!!!
The best course of action is to double track. Record it once in front of the amp, and then again in the loop, and hard pan them, or if there are two guitarists, do it once each for each guitarist. Level to taste. If you make the lower gain, darker take more prominent, then slowly add in the thin and fizzy one so that the saturation from that take brings up the cut of the main sound in the mix. For live, just use two lower wattage versions of the same amps, two copies of the pedal, two noise gates, and an ABY.
😉😊
Nice one James! Another great video. From what you said, it just depends on your personal preference for which amp is best for you. I'm a digital amp guy, so maybe positive grid would suit me more. But saying that, I think I would get on with either amp 😁🤘🏻
Too many people over complicate what the FX is and what it's for. The way I think of it, the FX loop gives you the opportunity to use your amp's preamp as another step in your gain stagine. A very common way to stack gain is from lowest gain to highest gain, in this instance you're using a low distortion tone (amp's clean tone) to push the higher gain (distortion) of the pedal. You can put clean boosts in your FX loop to add a "solo boost" button to your amp as well if you've over saturated your preamp. You can put a compressor in your FX loop to make it sound a bit bigger and level off the "woofs" of palm mutes so you can have a thick sound without making it flubby sounding.
Thin and fizzy is good. That leaves room the bass player to be in the mix too.
The gold tip is to just buy a good speaker.
a good speaker/cab will do a LOT to "fix" the sound. Amps and pedals with a lot of boomy low end tend to pair better with a brighter, tighter speaker, and amps and pedals with a lot of attack and harsh, spiky or fizzy top end tend work better with a darker speaker with a warmer mid range. It's why a Mesa Recto, SLO, or 5150 tends to pair best with neo creambacks or vintage 30's, while something like a Friedman BE100 will go better with a G12K-100 or G12H-150. It's also why a lot bass players that bi-amp using a guitar amp and a bass amp in parallel will often use bright, harsh speakers for the guitar amp part of their sound, like Lead 80's, 70/80's etc. Meanwhile, really balanced amps often work best with cabs that have a dark and a bright speaker
Using FX loop as your input is not useful for a pro player, you completely lose the sound of the preamp (your clean sound will sound like sh1t)
His input wasn't the FX loop
@@CupOfSweetTea did you watch the video? clearly the "better" sound of the pedal was in the fx loop.
@CreeplessOfficial @CupOfSweetTea is right. I'm not bypassing the preamp. Going into the amp input as normal and then coming out of the FX out, through the pedal and back into the FX return
Nice 🤔🙌
the gold tip is to just buy a good amp
That certainly helps
That sounded awful. The master of puppets clip sounded thin and cheap, like it was from a line 6
Master of Puppets yeah?
KSE mycurse
Interesting video James! I didn't know you had to put a distortion pedal behind your other FX to make it sound better. Gotta be honest, I thought the original sound was pretty good, it was raw and I liked that. The second one sounded cleaner, which is probably why you liked it more. I heard that KSE riff too! 😁😁🤘🏻🤘🏻
Like the cloud chamber. Is it real?
It is. Made it myself with a big glass jar and food colouring
@@JamesDorsett11Very cool, like the original thought. I’m saving these tracks for my next trip to the art institute of Chicago.
SupeR!🥺
Nice one James, part of this tune sounds like your version of Fade to Black haha! Another part kinda sounded a little similar to something I've actually written, but it's not the same. And once again you've written a chord progression I can't help but jam to, nice one! 😊😊🤘🏻🤘🏻
Yay!
🤟😍
🤘🤘
damn i already ordered one :(
Love the series. Absolutely Beautiful Telly as well!
Thanks!
It doesn't even have difficult chords 😭 what is the point
I honestly don't know. Total crap
🤘🤘
You thought we wouldn't notice you playing Wonderwall!
... No comment
🤣🤣🤣
I've never seen anything like this before, what a strange invention haha! I think the only people who would buy these are people too lazy to learn guitar properly so they can pretend they're really cool, and show off to unsuspecting people! (And of course if you're going to do a fun video like this) 🤣🤣
I hear you about the longevity of the app support. I own three iStomp pedals which are no longer app supported.
