    It doesn’t open, that’s humanly impossible, I used a big pliers, I even scratched the whole fucking thing. But it did not come off.

      They use some serious locktite/glue. Try using a hair blower or heat gun whilst doing this ive helped a couple friends or simply open/close the mechanism all day like a fidget device and you will slowly break that glue with use !

      I just used good old epoxy the mix with grey and white and then hardens and super glue. Superglue on the white seams and put them together then epoxied the outside. Make sure none goes inside thats why i superglued it first.

    EPIC design. The design engineers put a good failure mode in there 😮 Could have increased the tensile strength of that cam that broke or increased the thickness. What they probably did is start really strong and down grade the material and thickness until it failed at a set torque. We do this with materials when designing stuff. What is known as "engineering critical analysis" where we stress test a material to define whether the critical point of failure is acceptable/safe under given conditions. We can predict design life like that too. Brilliant really, you can make anything bulletproof and last forever except when the sales and marketing guys get their hands on things! Deliberately bottom heavy no doubt. Mine is tight and the lead doesnt auto-load anymore even after cleaning. Have to check alignment and stuff. Great vid, thnks for sharing.

    This was great, thanks for making the detailed video! My 800 went through a bit of a flood and this disassembly helped me get it apart and cleaned up. Very useful! I used "section pliers" like for a fountain pen to disassemble that top glued bit as they are padded and shouldn't mark, but some of the black anodizing still stripped off.. Probably because it was attached more strongly to the glue than it was to the metal.

    The top section on my silver chrome Rotring 800 that I bought at a super reduced price on Amazon (US) last November came completely unscrewed and fell off before I noticed it was loose at all. I watched your video a couple of times and was able to gently screw it back on all the way, something I don't think I would have ever figured out without seeing your technique. Thank you!

    Hi, I wonder if you can help me with a problem I’ve got with my 600? It’s developed a ‘gap’ between the knurled part and the main barrel, and it won’t screw fully together. It’s not cross threaded, it just seems to be bottoming out on something and I just can’t work it out. I wondered maybe if you tear down these pens you may have some idea?

    I would be grateful if you could post a video of actually doing the last two steps instead of just unscrewing them easily after you've already done it. I literally have multiple pairs of pliers on that black ring and cannot get it to budge. I've even tried heating it up with a blow-dryer. Been at it for hours with no luck.

    Seems like those plastic pieces are fragile, would like to see them made out a higher quality material. How do these hold up after long term use? I have a bunch of 600s just not sure if I should get an 800.

    • @franciscoyerena8427
      @franciscoyerena8427 3 года назад

      Ever since doing this “super glue” repair it hs help up through time. I havent dropped it again tho. It seems that this lasts a LONG time just doesn’t stack up to a hard fall. The weight of the pencil when it hits the ground will wreck havok on thin plastic if it hits with the tip extended. Others have years with their 800s but the 600 is the better of the two if only the tip didn’t bend/break so easily with any fall.

  • @joeletty2
    @joeletty2 4 года назад

    actually the way the weight is distributed has nothing to do with it its the way you drop it something heavy doesnt fall faster than something light its basic physics

    • @justinfields18
      @justinfields18 2 года назад

      The force/accel of gravity is going to act through the center of mass of the pencil. If the CoM isn't at the center of the pencil(highly unlikely) this force will induce a rotation in the pencil. Also basic physics.

    • @SleepLessThan3
      @SleepLessThan3 Год назад

      @@justinfields18 no, it all accelerates at the same rate. Otherwise if I tape a 10lb weight to a 100lb weight it should induce rotation when dropped in a vacuum

    • @franciscoyerena8427
      @franciscoyerena8427 4 года назад

      It should be identical! The only difference between 800 and 800+ is a removable rubber nib that screws on/off with an included key from the lower grip. The top and mechanism is identical.

    That's not glue, that's Locktite to prevent it from coming lose. You can use a heat gun or a hair drier to warm it up and you won't need to use pliers to unscrew that inner piece. Very nice video though. Thanks for posting.
