My final game in the group, against the remaining contender Pascalotopia! Will this game decide whether I get to the final of the World Championship?

My first video recording of Through the Ages! This is the World Championship 2024, and I play a 4-player game against e5582768, Pascalotopia and Wawrzyniec.
Amazing game! Thanks for sharing! =)
Only now got to finally watch the whole video. Thank you so much for doing this, it was super interesting!
Thank you very much, this was amazing, clearly the best collaboration on RUclips haha
Awesome to hear all of this, congrats to the winner!
nice vid, but the audio is rather pre-WW1 :) thx for the upload!

Weidenbaum going for Oil after Coal cost so many civil actions that could have been used to set up for future turns. I understand having the extra Science to spend, but especially with Watt being gone it's difficult to consider this choice as an optimal use of an age 3 turn. It cost so many civil actions. Going up to 10 production could have been done in just 2 CA with coal already there, saving 2 CA and 10 science. It is puzzling. Even doing nothing else than just improving Strength, knowing politics of strength is in there which can be a game-changing card when one is falling behind. Something like increase pop 2x, build cannon, anything other than this Oil play.
How fun!! Thank you.
Tank You guys for taking the time to do this recording for us. It was great to watch the perspective of all 3 of You in every turn and every play. And congratulations to the new World Champion!
Thanks to all three of you for doing this! And also thank you for not spoiling the standings at the start.
Wow, so awesome to hear all of your thoughts on this. And again another nailbiter and congratulations to the winner!
Very nice all in strategy. Seeing the opportunity that the other civs needed (too much) time to get online with their culture production so you could maintain your lead. Two questions: Are you dutch? Because your accent sounds really dutch :p And I dont know why e5 would use his ocean liner last turn. It would only set him up worse for certain events like happiness and it would give him 0 benefit. Weird decision. Do you have any idea?
No, Belgian actually, so same language, but I don't think I sound Dutch. :x I don't think there's a good reason for the last population increase (and worse for happiness of course). So it seems like a mistake, didn't notice that during the game.
most glorious gandhi rat game of all time
Very nice turn to go to zero science
wow, honestly didn't expect that outcome!
Funny to stay on 0 science 0 production with Scientific Cooperation xD
Wow, amazing game and another close one! Congratulations! 🎉🎊
what a thriller at the end...
strange that he got Communism - as you truly transformed your civ into modern day Russia, where only military, farmers + priests exist :D
At 48:00, was there a consideration to just take Computers and upgrade twice? Statue is decent but a little weak because the yellows don't really matter and with Computer you unlock the best leader + block him from sci production + enable a good Empire State Building to take next turn.
I think I considered it, but it just doesn't help me much. Gates would be good enough with Scientific Methods already. I don't think it makes that much difference for ESB either (which I don't know if I want to commit to next turn, there might be important cards to take). Denying it to him is a consideration, but it would be a large rock investment for him, and every card I take from a non-discard spot is more chance for a government.
Thoroughly impressive and highly entertaining. Thank you!
Such a change from the usual culture fest, thank you for covering this very interesting game.
Well done!
Cool agressiv game with huge focus on blockign from both players! =D
Phew, quite lucky with the governments age2/3.
Also great that you cover all those games again - good entertainment from you and Weidenbaum :)
Did you consider just gambling the game on Impact of Strength and playing an army instead of a pair? I feel he drew so many cards that one should just expect him to have the 10-0-impacts, so the main questions is whether he'd dare to have Strength in while only leading military by 5.
He is one of the best players in the world, so he would only gamble in a losing situation.
@@jackxander1944 but you saw how this game turned out, no? E5 drew a brazillion cards, played several impacts and pv4 got lucky that he didn't find the good ones. Just listen to his commentary again - he explains very well that he should be in a somewhat losing position at final impacts
@@alexanderreich749 It isn't what I meant. I mean that you are in a clearly losing position in order to take a risk like that. If you can avoid it, there is no reason to.
@@jackxander1944 I don't think TTA offers "clearly losing positions" as long as impacts are seeded + the setups allow very flippy ones (and if that is not the case, there is no real risk to take anyways outside of "lets hope he doesn't have a war / aggression"). I'm a high level Terraforming Mars player (not sure if you know the game) and the award-mechanic of that game allows something similar - you publicly fund an award (something similar to e.g. Impact of Strength) and when you are in a losing situation you need to hope that the other guys doesn't have some tactics hidden that would improve his strength by a lot. I think this game qualifies as probably the closest to one of those "oh no, I need to gamble on an impact flip"-situations, so I was curious to hear pv4s perspective on it.
@@alexanderreich749 Well I won't pretend to be better than pv4 (esp since he recently beat me in a tourney 1v1), but I have high level experience in 2p tournaments and all I'm saying is that a gamble like that wasn't smart for pv4. As you can see, if he had done it, he would have lost. Here is the thing: there is no way that e5 would have played it. The only advantage of being in the last position is being able to have the last influence on the impacts. e5 knows this and would not risk impact of strength, since for him improving his strength is so expensive that it's not feasible. He knows pv4 is in second position and could improve his strength more reasonably. Now, of course, HE could gamble that pv4 won't gamble. Maybe he should have, considering how bad his impacts were. You can be sure that if something was a smart thing to do, these players will at least mention it and have it as one consideration. Are there tournaments like this for terraforming mars? I'd be interested!
Those impacts...
Last impact quite sweaty lol
Close game!! Thanks for the recap. :)
Nice culture-heavy game. An ultra-close finish with a well deserved victory.
thanks for the upload!
Thank you for covering the games too, it is very helpful for me to see your viewpoint and to hear your thought process every turn.
Great game. Thanks for the upload! :)
@30:30 No condiseration to Eiffel TOwer there? Seems much better than Operas and Efficient Upgrade when you get the extra Happy Face and have big poulation problems for the forseeable future.
I think it was my first thought too, but the 13 rock investment looked too risky. I expected Martin to push military soon and then the lack of rocks would be dangerous. Also Bach was the only reasonable leader for me, so it had to be Opera.
@12:00 That turn didn't make any sense, better to just finish RR, it also increases rock production. =S
thank you for this great movie...well played!
You are so modest coming up with that amazing Eleanor move! Well done.
Well played, and very excited to see your coverage of the other games!
Great to have another top player commenting their games, TY! Also this video had the extra excitement in the end for you not knowing the outcome, which made the ending fun to watch. (Can't do that on purpose all the time, I suppose, since you need to know the result for the other ongoing games)
Congratz! Well played and even better commentary 😄 Great to see fresh blood on this market of TTA games coverage. Good luck in the finals!
Wait a sec - wasn't building the 2nd Philosophy early forced, because otherwise you would miss 1 science for the Alchemy + Masonry play?
Thanks for the content you are preparing. I like your commentary a lot - relaxed but very helpful 💪🏼
Congrats, very well played, although I think in this game it came down to a few key denials + a little card luck and then Pascalotopia couldn't really do anything anymore. Still winning 5 games is probably not all luck. ;) I'd really hope for a Weidenbaum-collab if he gets to the finals, the Video he did with DJParson + pajada was very cool to watch and I'd appreciate more of that. Also the audio was a little low in this video, maybe you can improve that for further recordings :)
What is the collab video you’re referring to with Parson and pajada? I’m curious to watch it if you have the name of the video or a link :) thanks in advance!
It is titled „ 3 GRANDMASTERS discuss Intermezzo Championship Match - DJParson vs Weidenbaum vs Pajada“
@@alexanderreich749 awesome, thanks friend!
"Which is good, I get the Wave, 6 rocks is like... 6 turns of production" :D:D
What a nightmare Age I... haven't seen one that bad in any stream before. Brave to even play it, and great job almost reversing it.
So interesting to see Wawrzyniec going for the early 3rd farm... it looks completely mental but it worked out pretty well
Congraetz! This was an impressiv series of games ! PlZ keep on posting this awesome content.
In an alternate timeline, Nelson Mandela rose to become the Primer of the USSR and it was amazing. CONGRATS MY FREIND WELL DESERVED!
Congratulations!
