Another number by the sadly departed John McAtee. Graham Walker is on 2nd guitar. I believe that this song was originally by T-Bone Walker.
Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues (Bob Dylan)

Another John McAtee favourite. The original recording must be over 30 years old. I've done my best to resurrect it.
The Hedgehog Song
Просмотров 1952 года назад
My 2nd John McAtee song written by Mike Heron of The Incredible String Band. I've jammed along to this song with John on many occasions & it was always a crowd favourite. I hope I've done it justice. I would like give credit to the one who made the wonderful wild hedgehog video but I can't seem to find it now.
Hoochie Coochie Man

A tribute to my dear but sadly departed friend, John McAtee. The recording was made perhaps 40 years ago by another friend, Graham Walker who played 2nd guitar & I've added a few bits of my own. I hope I've done justice to the finest blues singer I've ever known. John deserved a wider audience so please share if you liked it.

Titanic Video

It was sad when that great ship went down. The song dates from at least 1915. My version features one of my oldest & dearest friends, Dave Pollard on banjo. It also features the actual siren from the Titanic which was recovered from her final resting place.

An old but still relevant song written by Billy Ed Wheeler.
Salford City Transport Broke My Heart

A tragic tale from when Salford City Transport was amalgamated with the notorious (& short-lived) SELNEC.

This is a children's song. It has no redeeming features except for the relief felt when it ends.
Build a Little Home

Everyone loves a happy song and this is the happiest I know. It featured in an Eddie Cantor film called "Roman Scandals" and I fell in love with it immediately.

Mild and Bitter Days

I got the idea for this song from a poem I read years ago. I think it was called "The Local". No idea who wrote it. At the time I was thinking about live music being replaced by noisy fruit machines, juke boxes & TVs. Since then we've had the smoking ban and now lockdown so perhaps it's been given a new relevance. David Kaye was the wonderful violin player. Hope you like it.

Brilliant song and words, kids looked so happy, playing marbles and footi in the stree. Amazing memories, sadly children don't seem to have the freedom we had as kids. Great video. Viewer from Leeds Yorkshire.

I left Prestwich in the early-to-mid 70s and haven't thought much about the Church Inn since, but suddenly remembered this and 'Hanky Park' and was delighted to find them on RUclips!

Hi Barbara, I remember JM playing briefly with a band which I think was called "Compendium" (I could be wrong about the name.) One of the band members was dark haired, wore glasses & I think his name was John Parsons. Is this the same JP?

    • @barbaraparsons5725
      @barbaraparsons5725 2 года назад

@@barryoates1248 Hi Barry, Well remembered! The dark hair has long since fled and been replaced with a sparse grey/white thatch. Compendium was a name dreamt up by John Mc and consisted of John, Steve Hope, Sandy Warburton and yours truly. Years later John would give the name Rapscallion to another would be “popular beat combo” consisting of John, Dave Howard and myself. It suffered the same fate as Compendium. So it goes. Enjoying your videos. If you have John singing “Just Like Tom Thumb’s Blues” I would love to hear it. Cheers, Barry John Parsons

Absoloutely love the archive pictures and smoggy-cole folk song!. Past reminders of the rise and fall of Industrial Revolution that once delivered both prosperity and poverty in equal measures, right up until the 1970s - even now the place is a post-apocalyptic due to social cleansing and gentrification/e-commerce. Have no connection whatsoever to Hanky Park and never been there, yet I simply love historical archive footage of Northern England.

My Dad was born in Hanky Park in 1930 the year the book or the film of the book Love on the Dole came out. Said he used to play football in his bare feet with Frank Riley the artist. Can anyone pinpoint where this is in present day Manchester? Is it basically where Salford Precinct is now? Any info would be nice as I live in Manchester now and would like to find out.

It's great to hear these songs again and that's a nice photo of George playing with you, Dangerous Dave and no doubt Graham just off camera in the Red. I remember you playing "Pass the hat around" in the Church Inn folk club and someone passed a beer tray around collecting enough money to buy you a few beers, happy days - Nick

Hi Nick Good to hear from you & glad you like the songs. Putting together a collage of suitable photos can be tricky but some songs (like this one) lend themselves to this approach. I don't recall the "Pass the Hat Around" incident but I know that I would never refuse free beer. I've seen some very good photos of yours on FB. keep up the good work. Barry
