VK5IR tests the NR-1 noise blanker ( qrp.gr/nr1/ ) on his noise in Adelaide Australia, as he prepares for the crowded contest.

He compares it with the SunSDR noise blanker. In contrast to the IC-7300 and the FTDX-10, the SunSDR (just like the NR-1) can remove effectively the horizontal waterfall noise. However, it still suffers from the distortion it's noise blanker causes around strong stations.
When the band is crowded, especially during contests, it is almost impossible to enable the noise blanker, even in the most expensive gear, as it has no effect near the presence of strong stations.
