2 Years OFF GRID | How I Built My BASE CAMP and Why I Left the CIRCUS #vanlife
After years of performing in the circus, I made a life-changing decision-I left it all behind to build an off-grid base camp in a secluded orchard. In this video, I share my journey from the big top to simple living, explaining why I walked away from the circus and how I created the off-grid lifestyle I always wanted.
You'll see how I transformed this wild space into a fully functional off-grid base camp, perfect for full-time vanlife. I break down what I had to build-from a workshop tent powered by a generator to a wood store and even a thermosiphon gas-powered hot tub.

Beautiful, I love it ❤
I found your channel this week and have subscribed from PA in the USA. Looking forward to your projects. Thanks for taking us along
Kia Ora, I've always had a lot of trouble with my diesel heater not enough solar to run it, so going get fire put in
Really enjoying the videos, look forward to seeing your progress ❤ Have a blessed week 🙏
2nd video of yours I’ve now watched and enjoying hearing about your journey. I’ve been fulltime vanlife in Australia for 4 years and one day when I’m ready to sit still I would love a property like that with a workshop to tinker in and land to grow food and be away from city and all it’s pressures.
I know nothing about filming, but I think you’re not quite looking at the camera? Maybe that’s intentional but it’s a little disconcerting! Love you to bits though…. Looking forward to your story xxxx
Oh wow! That Iveco!! ❤❤❤ I love everything about this… the door coming into the shower is genius!
Really very clever! A lot of thought, expertise, skill and hard work put into living a life in tandem with nature. Amazing! ⭐️⭐️⭐️
Exactly what im trying to do an have got a very similar vehicle color and all! <3 looking for my own farm project so happy to find those willing to share tips from those steps ahead from me!
What is a ‘siquest’?
🤣 a "side quest" is a job or project I find myself doing, when I should really be working on my main project!
How did you come by the land... I'm selling my property now to do the same. But land is hard, or should I say... Not cheap. Would you have any tips...xx
I got lucky with this spot to be honest. I don't own it, but I am paying some land rent. Managed to find myself talking to the right person at the right time! Equestrian land or Farm land can often have some unused little corners...
@TheDakteris that's great advice.... Really is. Thank you 😊..xx
Original adhesive was likely hotmelt which is never stronger than its initial bond strength. The contact adhesive is solvent based & builds strength over time
Lovely stuff. Nice composition and structure, beautiful shots. Sincere and vunerable presentation. A new artform for you! I have a question; Do you miss performing?
Leaving the stage was like any heartbreak, it gets easier with time! I am a lot kinder to myself now I'm not performing though. I did always put a lot of pressure on myself!
Legend.
How many miles does it have on the clock, im thinking of doing the same thing but im worried about the engines longevity of how many miles is ok on a van
I'm got pretty lucky with this one. Only 15000 miles! Really depends on the vehicle as to what is acceptable milage I think... but always the lower the better!
I love it! What a fab place for you. I'd love to be off grid. One day....... 👍😎🤗💜💜💜
Thanks 😊 I do feel lucky I found this place!
Great stuff 👍
Just discovered your channel. Your videos are well put produced. I can't wait to watch how thinks progress
Thanks so much! I am spending a lot of time on the edits. Hopefully that will speed up as I get more experience
Awesome, interested how you manage to live on the plot in your van, had any issues with busybodies reporting you? I'm considering doing something similiar but from what I've read there's a 28 day maximum per year on a caravan / campervan occupying privately owned land
It's still van life even when you're on property (I'm assuming it's your own orchard). Everything you do on that property improves your own skill set. Having the land means you can put in as much solar as you want and eventually, together with water catchment, become almost off grid entirely. The workshop is a brilliant way to build a budget workshop and I can see you making some unique furniture items in there that you could sell at markets......I bet the ladies will make up 80% of your customers!!!
Log store roof. Perfect place for a couple of solar panels.
Not a bad idea, but I would only catch the early morning sun in that spot
@@TheDakteriswith hinged solar panels you could 'follow' the sun
please reach out to rusty pixel designs she lives in a van much like yours and needs help/advice.
Bought my Sainsbury Frisgebox converted, Saved me thousands which doesn't include my own time. Still doing more to it which keeps me happy that im slowly making it mine!
Good choice mate! There are always plenty of ways to tweak a vehicle and make it your own. Nice to have some projects, but not a full time job doing a full build!
@ absolutely. Loving your build. Very jealous of the generator. Would come in very handy in the Motorsport paddock.
Do you need a c1 lisense??
I now have my class C licence, just incase I ever need to drive something bigger 😉
il ressemble à Val Kilmer ! très drôle !

Wow! 😎🤗💜💜💜
I love the worktop! Beautiful looking wood. Great layout. Love the doors. 👍🤗💜💜💜
Just found you. Looking forward to this build. 👍🤗💜💜💜
@@jaxx6366 I'm looking forward to getting back on the road!
Looks like you found a really nice spot to park up.
I did get lucky finding this little orchard! My next video spends more time looking at my setup here. 😊
Wow! Original this one. Never saw an ambulance being converted. What a crazy job! It sure is for the long term, you’ll be committed to the van!
There are a few ambulance conversions out there! A lot of people love them, it was the generator, size and low mileage that made the choice for me 😊
@TheDakteris oh I didn't know it was a thing.
Awe!! Hello August. So glad to find your channel. Your going to grow quickly… I can feel it! Lovely energy ❤ I am an avid van life video watcher from Washington State, US . I bought an old 1977 Ford van with a high top 2 years ago. She’s and old rusty bucket with a lot of charm and suitable for camping trips up the local logging roads near home. Little house on wheels. I haven’t build anything to permanent inside because of leaks between the high top and the frame. Can you or anyone else here reading recommended a good sealant?
I'm pretty shocked how well this video has been received to be honest! Thanks 😊 It's hard to give you any tips on fixing your leak without really seeing the problem. I wouldn't want to suggest something that would end up trapping water and causing more rust! I'm sure you will figure something out
@ fair enough!! You’re right about those channels that let water flow. I used some silicone sealer… which melted away next day for not having time to cure, then JB water weld and that wasn’t very helpful either, but better!! It’s the van life algorithm that spreads the news/ and or just some good people we can support. I follow several people who I am intentional about all the buttons. I’ll give someone all the comments and thumbs up if they get paid for content.
Heart team incident command unit 🧐tasty bit of kit for sure. Looking good though 😎
Great stuff. Informative, entertaining, funny…..and with added flanges. Ive hit subscribe.
🤣 thanks for the sub Dave!
I agree with you advice, I just wanted to get on the road, so I bought a tatty van conversion and made a few simple upgrades. Better fridge, diesel heater, solar.
Well played sir! Hope you have been enjoying some good trips?
Before gluing on to painted metal it needs to be cleaned with, acetone, or something similar.
You are absolutely correct, I used isopropyl alcohol 😊
Nice!
Thanks!
Liking your honest approach, I enjoy watching van builds so you've got a new sub, thanks for taking us along. can't wait.👍
pro tip for your future videos - try to look into the camera lens, not your face on display. And also do not flip the picture on vertical axis. So if there are signs/ labels visible in the video, we can read it easily.
