Pat Collard
Добавлен 22 окт 2018
Guitarist and sometime keyboard player, written many original songs ( which is the reason I opened this channel so they don’t die with me, getting older 😎). Apart from my own stuff, which is mainly ballads, my main interest is with blues and ragtime...Robert Johnson, Big Bill Broonzy, Brownie McGee, Blind boy fuller, Blind Blake, that kinda stuff and will upload some along with my own songs in time.
The January man…Dave Goulder….Pat Collard cover
I usually try to avoid doing cover songs on YT as I got my previous channel deleted for it…anyway always loved this song so wonderfully written and evocative of the changing Seasons.

West coast blues (sort of) …Blind Blake/arr Collard

This is a tongue in cheek arrangement of Blind Blake’s brilliant “West coast blues”. Just a bit of fun really but gave my fingers a workout 😎
I know my Babe…John Renbourn cover
Просмотров 1873 месяца назад
One of my favourite John Renbourn songs from his “Another Monday” album, it took a German fiddle player to show me the picking pattern for this back in the early 70s…tbh this is a shadow of the way I could play it back then…ah but I still love to try 😎
Leave it for another night…Pat Collard…original song
Просмотров 1444 месяца назад
An original song that I wrote in one night (very rare for me) and recorded at the same time…they say that the first take is usually the best and I’m so glad I recorded it at the time. I made a much later recording which was a disaster so I’m glad I found this original 😎
What you gonna do (when the devil comes creepin’)…Trad/arr Collard
Просмотров 1155 месяцев назад
An old gospel song recorded by several old blues players, Mance Liscomb and Mississippi Fred McDowell among them, also recorded by Bob Dylan for his “Freewheelin’” album (but never made it on to the record) and his version is the one I based mine on, although I play it in open D tuning.
Hesitation blues…Rev Gary Davies/arr Collard
Просмотров 4727 месяцев назад
Originally recorded by Reverend Gary Davies, this version is probably closer to Ralph McTell’s. Not a song I usually play but had a request from a friend to learn it.
Police dog blues..Blind Blake
Просмотров 1,1 тыс.8 месяцев назад
One of my favourite Blind Blake songs, recorded in 1929 it was one of the first to use harmonics in the guitar accompaniment. It’s played in open D tuning and incorporates several interesting variations between verses
Judy..John Renbourn..Arr Pat Collard
Просмотров 1948 месяцев назад
From John’s “Another Monday” album, My take on the instrumental “Judy” similar to many contemporary blues type instrumentals in A minor, like Davy Graham’s “Anji” or “Guitar train” by John Pierce the recurring theme uses a simple Am, G, D, E bass line over various arpeggios…fun to play
Plainsong…John Renbourn
Просмотров 34910 месяцев назад
A bluesy instrumental by John Renbourn, not a copy but tried to get the essence of the original. Quite a tricky one to play, had to practice for this one, something I haven’t done for years…seemed so much easier when I was young 😎
Black is the colour…Traditional ( arr Collard )
Просмотров 31710 месяцев назад
This is a bluesy arrangement of an old traditional folk song, I got the idea from Hamish Imlach who I met in Germany, I learned a great deal from his playing and this was my favourite, for me his original interpretation and arrangement remains the benchmark and there was no point in trying to copy it, instead I found my own way.

Another piano song from earlier days…”You cant always get what you want” as the Stones might say.
Let my heart do the talking…Pat Collard
Просмотров 334Год назад
An early song but one I was really pleased with ( when I was young I was this person, in and out of love affairs ). This is the original multi track recording, I had a lot more energy and patience back then and spent more time on the guitar parts and harmonies, no web cam back then so just used some stills to illustrate the song.
LATELY…Pat Collard
Просмотров 123Год назад
Going back to my earlier song writing days with this one, I always wore my heart on my sleeve and this song is a perfect illustration of that. I made this Multi-tracked recording back in the 80s so I don’t have video for it so instead I have tried to illustrate the song with some stills. Finally although it might sound as if I’m playing a 12 string it is in fact two guitars capoed in different ...
Solid Gone…Carter Family ( arr. Collard )

Had some fun with this old Carter family song, added a second guitar part and some harmonies (probably best to listen through headphones)

Thanks Bruce, very kind of you and always appreciated my friend 👍
Great progression ... super bluesy feel. 😎
I always find this a most haunting tune ... very evocative ... that continual descending bass line underpins it all. Great stuff! 😀
Nice picking, Pat! 😎
Super version of this classic, Pat! I seem to remember that Hamish Imlach also used to sing this. Great tune. 😎
Great tune.. well played, Pat! 😀
Beautiful ... I always loved Hamish Imlach´s version of this. Wonderful bluesy feel to it ... 😎
Thanks Paul, met Hamish over in Germany a couple of times, I learned so much from his playing 👍
Geat work, Pat .. another of my favourite songs. The imagery is amazing .... beautifully played. 😀 PS: I used to hear Archie Fisher play this in the old days of the folk revival in Dundee back in the 60's ..... also heard a couple of (then) unknowns like Barbara DIckson and wizard instrumentalist Davey Johnstone who went on to become Elton John's guitarist ... Those were the days ....
Thanks Paul, you may notice some similarities with Archie’s version, his was the first arrangement I heard and based mine partly on his. You are definitely right about the 60s, where many of us learned our trade and I met so many great folk and blues artists on that journey, people like Archie, Hamish Imlach, Wizz Jones, The boys of the Loch etc. Not so many of the old folkies left now 👍
Great work, Pat ... this is one of my all time favourite Renbourn pieces. I really like our version! 😎
Mine too Paul, his arrangements were always so challenging, thanks for the listen my friend 👍
Yes Pat, sounds wonderful, you have the talent! Big like friend
Thank you Fernando, much appreciated 👍
what a lovely song....I can hear some irish influence maybe? beautiful singing and playing
Thanks Mel, always appreciated, I based this arrangement on Archie Fisher’s version, one of my favourite Scottish folk singers ❤️

Thanks John, I’ll take that as a huge compliment, I was always impressed with the lyrics of this song and wanted to find an arrangement that would compliment them 👍
A beautifully written song, Pat, given that exquisite treatment of yours, my good friend. Love it.
