    I got 8 and two girls never quite get the feathers back doing all recommends they eat fine and poop fine, eggs fine, like this for almost a year. It started when I brought home a stray rooster and they fought for the 4 days. That was long ago. Both reds. One worse than others. Poopy butt often so a soak is needed again.

    This is not a good method, especially for larger poultry, large breed chickens and turkeys. They will try to eat the pellets which can cause nutritional deficiencies, toxicity, and blockages in their digestive tract. The fumes from the pine can cause respiratory issues as well. Use hay, straw, newspaper (w/o petroleum based ink) or Flock Fresh (which is bagged straw).

  • @thewildskunkwhisperer688
    @thewildskunkwhisperer688 11 месяцев назад

    Have you tried "Prid"? Irs supported to draw the infection closer to the surface so it basically attaches to the core scab and can be pulled out intact. I just ordered some .. will be arriving tomorrow. Also.. its actually a staph infection and can be transferred to you so I would suggest gloves for protection. Got those from dollar tree also.

  • @darlene5621
    @darlene5621 11 месяцев назад

    Why dont you have rubber gloves on that is a staph infection. Staph is contagious.

    I have a chicken that didn't limp for a long time, but I could see that her ankle and webbing were pretty swollen. But, she ran around, scatched around and ate like normal. But, here recently she started limping. I should have kept an eye on her. I checked out her foot pad, and she's got almost the entire pad blackened! I don't know what I'm going to do. I've got a lot of limping chickens, but it's so hard to find the time to deal with this. My husband and I tried to take care of two chickens, but I guess we didn't do a very good job; because after treatment, they're still limping around. I'm sooo bummed about the whole situation.

    I bought that same 40 lb bag of black oil sunflower seeds yesterday for $29.99. Prices sure have gone up. I soaked the seeds last night and they are in a jar now. I feed quail that visit my front yard. I thought the sprouts would be nice due to the fact that Arizona has very few green plants.

      After soaking the foot (I don't know for how long), she squeezed it, then it looks like she pried using the tweezer/tool, pulled off the top. Then, she went back and forth between squeezing and pulling out more until the hole was empty. Then she applied an antibiotic ointment, then a bandage.

    Is any of the feather lose blamed on the rooster mounting the hen?

    • @debbiedooshomesteading7027
      @debbiedooshomesteading7027 2 года назад

      Yes that could happen if you have an aggressive rooster or to many roosters and not Enough hens or a rooster that has too long spurs That's why I take off my rooster's spurs when they get too long or you can have a rooster that likes to overmade just 1 or 2 of your Hens But they do lose their feathers in the fall Every year

    I have indoor rabbits and quail in stackable rabbit cages with wire floors that allow the poop and urine to fall thru to a poop tray below each cage. I was using a mixture of zeolite, unscented clumping cat litter, and play sand. I will try this instead, mixed with zeolite.

    Black oil seeds are one of the best investments you can make. We just got some laying hens this year but we've been growing sunflowers for a long while. I have some sprouting now as you showed here, and we also plan to just give some of the whole sunflower heads to our chickens; a lot of people say they love that. Growing sunflowers helps break up our heavy clay soil, so we plant them wherever we want to put a new bed next year. Sometimes the local native songbirds eat most of the seeds before we harvest them, but I'm fine with that. And neighbors have commented they like seeing the pretty sunflowers here and there when they drive past our property, so that's nice too.

    I recently removed the black scabs from my chickens feet expecting there to be a white kernel/hard abscess attached but there was not. I used a scalpel to dig a bit and did not see anything except tissue that was pink and looked like normal flesh but he still has fairly large bumps on the bottom of his feet. How do I know that I got all of the infection out???
