THINGS you could buy at the dollar tree for your chickens
I got 8 and two girls never quite get the feathers back doing all recommends they eat fine and poop fine, eggs fine, like this for almost a year. It started when I brought home a stray rooster and they fought for the 4 days. That was long ago. Both reds. One worse than others. Poopy butt often so a soak is needed again.
Use this for my Holland bunny’s litter! I love it. Never any bad smell.
one of my chicken lose her feather a few week before and no new feathers are growing. what can i do to help her ?
I would try to up her protein. Or do you have a rooster and She's his favorite

where do you get them?
You can get them at tractor supply.Or walmart or Online
You said there was a bump on her foot that you assumed was also an infection. What did you do for that?
I put Blue Coat on it. And I put original neosporn until it was completely gone
I give mine sardines , tuna, and salmon when molting.
This is not a good method, especially for larger poultry, large breed chickens and turkeys. They will try to eat the pellets which can cause nutritional deficiencies, toxicity, and blockages in their digestive tract. The fumes from the pine can cause respiratory issues as well. Use hay, straw, newspaper (w/o petroleum based ink) or Flock Fresh (which is bagged straw).
Have you tried "Prid"? Irs supported to draw the infection closer to the surface so it basically attaches to the core scab and can be pulled out intact. I just ordered some .. will be arriving tomorrow. Also.. its actually a staph infection and can be transferred to you so I would suggest gloves for protection. Got those from dollar tree also.
I did try this after I made this video. I love it
Why dont you have rubber gloves on that is a staph infection. Staph is contagious.
I just wanted to help her she was walking funny and didn't think I did put gloves on halfway through the video. I washed my hands very well.
What does it mean when they start laying down spuayially
We grow and dry comfrey and add to their feed They eat it while its growing
I've heard pine isn't good for chickens breathing?
I read that cedar is not good for respiration , pine is the way to go
Too much work
I have a chicken that didn't limp for a long time, but I could see that her ankle and webbing were pretty swollen. But, she ran around, scatched around and ate like normal. But, here recently she started limping. I should have kept an eye on her. I checked out her foot pad, and she's got almost the entire pad blackened! I don't know what I'm going to do. I've got a lot of limping chickens, but it's so hard to find the time to deal with this. My husband and I tried to take care of two chickens, but I guess we didn't do a very good job; because after treatment, they're still limping around. I'm sooo bummed about the whole situation.
thanks for being so caring and loving...your kids are awesome!
I bought that same 40 lb bag of black oil sunflower seeds yesterday for $29.99. Prices sure have gone up. I soaked the seeds last night and they are in a jar now. I feed quail that visit my front yard. I thought the sprouts would be nice due to the fact that Arizona has very few green plants.
Thanks for the info. My chickens are doing the same thing.
pretty sure I can't afford to feed my chickens frozen vegetables. Great videos though. Lots of great ideas.
Thanks for such a great video
Thanks for sharing this. The video is very helpful. My chicken had a terrible time. I really thought she was dying! It’s good to know not to pick them up during molt 😮. I gave her a few hugs and probably made her very angry. Poor thing. Next time I will just give her extra meal worms.
You turned the video off to get the hard bit you could feel from the top out. I have that situation with my hen. How did you get it out? Did you dig from the bottom wound? Or cut ftom the top ? Thanks
After soaking the foot (I don't know for how long), she squeezed it, then it looks like she pried using the tweezer/tool, pulled off the top. Then, she went back and forth between squeezing and pulling out more until the hole was empty. Then she applied an antibiotic ointment, then a bandage.
Thanks Debbie!, warm wishes, happy holidays. Belchertown - Massachusetts.
Happy holidays to you too ☺️
Oh thank you debbiedoo! I think my roostet is starting his first molt, looks like im buying cat food this week.
Thanks
Plant a few of them and you won't need to buy any more.
I had no clue you could do this! Someone showed me that you could cut part of the spur off with dog's nail clippers. But I like that you get the whole spur off! By the way, that tool you used is called a crescent wrench. (not sure why!)
Is any of the feather lose blamed on the rooster mounting the hen?
Yes that could happen if you have an aggressive rooster or to many roosters and not Enough hens or a rooster that has too long spurs That's why I take off my rooster's spurs when they get too long or you can have a rooster that likes to overmade just 1 or 2 of your Hens But they do lose their feathers in the fall Every year
I have indoor rabbits and quail in stackable rabbit cages with wire floors that allow the poop and urine to fall thru to a poop tray below each cage. I was using a mixture of zeolite, unscented clumping cat litter, and play sand. I will try this instead, mixed with zeolite.
Ok thanks
Hell, Did you do get rid of the swelling on the top of her foot?
Yes I did she healed up Very well and doing great .bumble foot Is an infection there's going to be swelling
Debbie, I wanted to thank you for the video on cutting my roosters spurs off!! It worked really well!!
You're welcome 😊
🐤 💕 sunflower 🌻 😆
Black oil seeds are one of the best investments you can make. We just got some laying hens this year but we've been growing sunflowers for a long while. I have some sprouting now as you showed here, and we also plan to just give some of the whole sunflower heads to our chickens; a lot of people say they love that. Growing sunflowers helps break up our heavy clay soil, so we plant them wherever we want to put a new bed next year. Sometimes the local native songbirds eat most of the seeds before we harvest them, but I'm fine with that. And neighbors have commented they like seeing the pretty sunflowers here and there when they drive past our property, so that's nice too.
Thanks for video Debbie, I got four more chooks today at point of lay. It has been a bit windy here in UK lately so glad to be getting on with the birds, will be ordering BOSS today. Good luck.
How often do you clean/scoop the coop? I use hay and clean the coop twice a week. the pellets my be more work having to use water, having to prep the bedding before adding bedding. Thank you for the options
If you scoop it Every day or every other day it fine . I only use it in the spring and summer
Fantastic! I bought about 40lbs of BLack oil Sunflowers seeds and my birds were killed by a critter. Left with all these seeds I tried growing them as sprouts/ micro greens and they’re doing great!
I’m so sorry for your loss!
Something murdered my flock, too. It is disgusting after you work so hard. I never found out what it was, and I had a fortress, too.
Thanks for the tips‼️
Cool‼️ Have you considered fermenting your feed to provide extra nutrition? Thanks for sharing.
Good stuff! Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome 😊
Thank you, good info. My hen has the same problem. Using some products made it become half its original size, but it is now stuck that half size and it won't heal. I will have to do this too.
I wish the chickens would be given a sedative to not feel so much.
Barbeque is very lucky to have such a caring mama.
Not close enough
thank you for this.i had a chicken with this.and i freaked out....now i know how to take care of it.thanks
Your children are adorable🥰 How they all came out and had concerns about the chicken! ♥️God Bless you, your family and your flock🙏🏼🍀👋🏼🇨🇦
how is the dust?
I only use the pellets for the summer haven't had a problem. in the winter I used starw
Thank you for this great instruction. You are a good teacher.
Thank you so much
I recently removed the black scabs from my chickens feet expecting there to be a white kernel/hard abscess attached but there was not. I used a scalpel to dig a bit and did not see anything except tissue that was pink and looked like normal flesh but he still has fairly large bumps on the bottom of his feet. How do I know that I got all of the infection out???
I would keep it wrapped up and Soak it in absence salt original scented free clean with ORIGINAL triple antibiotic ointment Change it Every day or every other day And keep your eye on it
My chickens aren't losing feathers cause of molt they loss it cause of horny rooster gangs
