We got it without really looking at reviews and boy this model is a disappointment. Not worth purchasing. Totally agree this belongs in the trash

Try undercoating your yellow minis white or purple first.

It’s okay brother it’s always difficult at the start but with enough time and patience you’ll be able to paint the Emperors finest

I always liked Warhammer 40K when I first tried to do actual minifigures let's just say I spent two days of my life trying to build them and I didn't even complete one

You can paint yellow over black💯 light layering, less is more brother!

Thin paints and when painting yellow put pink down first as it comes out abit nicer

I don’t know if you know this but you should be able to get yellow spray primer from a few different companies that would speed up your base coat

I start off with a base coat of a light grey primer over everything. Don't remember exactly the shade, but it was part of an Army Painter set I got ages ago and haven't looked back since. I started with Death Guard, so if I fucked up too terribly, I could always just try to make it look intentional. I also painted a truly enormous number of poxwalkers before even touching my first marine, to get the techniques and fine motor control a little better. And, just like everyone else has been saying, thin coats are the way! It's FAR easier to put on more paint in tiny layers than it is to take off if you added too much. Learned that one the hard way.

Consider getting a wet pallete. It helps heaps with keeping your consistency right and paint moist. You can make one yourself with stuff you got at home.

A little bit at a time! Watching videos on your down time helps a ton too. Looking forward to seeing what you paint in the future! When you look back in a year you'll be around how much progress you've made.

For yellow? Prime red, then airbrush it is my secret.

Looks like you could thin it more, and apply more coats. They don’t look too different from my first models. Yellow is also just a finicky colour to work with.

I think you’re doing a wonderful job for just starting!!!😊 usually what I do for yellow is paint layers of white until I can’t see the primer and then go over with whatever shade of yellow I want, but you do you man 👍!!!

Water your paints. With each mini blob of paint (usually you just dip in about 40% of your brush, if using the starter brush/base brush for example) you'll wanna put in 1-2 drops of water to thin it out and get a better consistency/appearance

That first ultramarine is relatable. I had Deathguard as my first and while it didn’t look horrible, it didn’t look presentable either lol! Also, go Imperial Fists if you really want to, but yellow is a bastard of a color (I have yet to actually paint a model yellow). Keep it up though! At one point it just kind of clicks and what was painful is now just enjoyable!
