D@mn! Thank you for an absolutely fantastic doc on the fantastic The Shining. Might I add, the intro scene, where the camera flies over the water with the female wailing, sets the atmosphere! It is soooo scary. I watch The Shining, Silence of the Lambs, Superman (the original) and other great movies at least once a year. And, I also appreciate Doctor Sleep, as I find it with scary and exiting. Cheers from Norway😃🍻⚔

The Shinning is a film that not only won a Razzie Award, but went on to become the classic beloved film that it is now.. and as much as Stephen King would to flush down to the toilet Stanley Kubrick version of The Shining, he had to "Stop Worrying, and love Stanley Kubrick's The Shining", when they made the sequel to it, with "Doctor Sleep"... ... and Stanley is having the last laugh now, even over Stephen King!!!

How many thought that movie was entertainingly frightening when it came out and now can't watch it because unhappiness is now at a record high? and who gives a f if it's not like Steven Kings. was it supposed to be or else.

This was amazing. From the first few of edits I thought I wouldn’t continue to watch your documentary but then I fell in love. Keep giving great content and most of follow your dreams. I say follow your dreams because you said this movie was your favorite in order for you to say that it’s because the director followed his dreams.

I'm a big fan of Kubrick. I even went to his exhibit that was in San Francisco. However. I feel that he was a headcase. Kubrick, in my opinion, knew who he could and couldn't bully. So Shelly became his source. I know that he was trying to get what he'd wanted out of her, to fulfill his vision. But he'd taken too far. A projecting his own insecurities. Perfection is the handicap of the perfectionist. Shelly never mentally recovered from that mental condescending abuse. You can tell that it put her on the defense around others in the industry. R.I.P. Shelly.

Great doc! I get kubrick is a genius but doing that many takes changing scripts daily abusing people like this is dispicable. Poor scatman such a sweet man broke down crying & then that wacko got it was enough. Wtf. I think people like him that are so brilliant they lack people skills. Plus im shocked the studio let him film as long as he wanted to cut & edit long after. Good lord george lucas collapsed from exhaustion stress dehydration put up his house to mortgage so he could finish star wars while directing doing the effects editing w/ his wife & others w/o credit ( they all got oscars ) so he could also retain the rights to all the merchsndise the movie so greedy 20th century fox had nothing yet lucas bet on himself knew the studio loved what they saw otherwise why would they offer so much in exchange for ownership of a piece of the movie & all the toys t shirts sheets ceral etc. They were getting a cut for distribution & their finance. Its odd to me why the studios gave a lucas or coppola such crap over vision casting etc while kubrick could just film unnecessary 60 to 120 takes on closeups!! Also i mentioned what a great job u did but the still camera man who ran w/ the actors which was so innovative in the 70s ( saved on laying dolly tracks) did this before the shining on rocky as it was filmed in 75 came out in 76. The shining was filmed a couple years later & released in 80. That cameraman b/c of his height athletic ability could run again saving so much money on not laying the dolly to film long running scenes.

Soundtrack on this needs remixing in several spots. Background music in casting sequence completely obscures what's going on.

Kubrick gets far too much praise than he deserves for the outright abuse he put Duvall through and far too many conspiracy minded people spent too much time convincing themselves there are hidden messages and that simple continuity errors were somehow deliberately put in as "secret messages" from Kubrick when no one who worked with him, including his own daughter, ever agreed with such ridiculousness.

The sound quality of this video could do with a bit of Kubrick's perferctionism.

It's strange that critics disliked Nicholson's character being nasty from the start. The husband in Rosemary's Baby was even nastier than Jack Torrance, yet was seen as a masterpiece.

Kubrick was a**hole. He marked Shelley Duvall for life. He was on his terrain in England with his mom and his daughter while others were forced to be a year in England. What a d**k !

Hmm.. Kubrick's daughter being loud, yet her dad turned Shelly into a shell....

Shelley Duvall for "worst actress"?? You f'kn kidding? I'm convinced that in some of those scenes she wasn't even acting but actually living a nightmare due to how she was treated and the insane amount of takes she had to do. There's no doubt it messed with her head and the sheer mental, emotional, and physical exhaustion is unimaginable.

Interesting video, but I bailed out after 5 minutes. Your audio levels need to be normalised, they're either blasting out of the speakers, or so quiet they're inaudible.

Great job! I love all of Kubrick's films but The Shining is definitely the one that I have watched the most. The casting and the performances are so perfect for this gothic story and I never get tired of it. I think the reason that Stephen King didn't like it is because Kubrick made the story even better in film format. Kubrick was a master of film making. King needs to stick to writing books.

Loved your video! Not sure but I may have you beat in the number of times seeing it. I saw it when I was 20 in 1980 in the theater and I’m 63 now and I have lost complete track of the number of times I’ve seen it. It remains my favorite movie. It also remains one of my favorite books, even though they are very different. Great job on this. Really well done!

The music is too loud. You have some great archives but that music drowns it out.

Excellent work dude. Not only Stanley Kubrick is one of my favourite filmmakers of all time with Orson Welles, The Shinning is without a doubt one of a very very few movies that really scare the hell out of you but probably one of the finest films ever produced. As in many other movies like Barry Lyndon, Kubrick introduced technical innovations that were immediately adopted by the rest of filmmakers, achievement that only a handful of directors were able to reach. So yes, here is a beautiful tribute to one of the very best creators of the XX Century. Thanks again for this. All the best from West Spain 🙂

My favorite movie of all time. I actually didn't really like the book, as I saw the movie first! BTW - Shelly Duvall has been in movies again since 2019 - most recently The Forest Hills!

The Shining saw resurgence primarily because young people stopped reading. As a movie, I find it unsettling after dozens of watches, and still enjoy the fulness of the novel. It gets boring and preaching at times, but it definitely is a creepy story.

Watched it again recently. Was most impressed by how great Shelly's performance was...a film thst will stand the test of time for many decades to come.❤

You could cut out 30 minutes and people would make up some reason why Kubrick left a 30 minute blank spot and declare it genius somehow. Its just a jumble of jump scares with no plot that makes any sense. But people are shallow.
