The Bay of Biscay is notorious for its violent storms but this would have been known by the crew AND the vessels owners, plus they will have had the forecast for the bay before they ever reached it. Why did they even set out? Did they place scheduling over safety? It looks like it to me. And how can a modern vessel lose propulsion? That is as serious as an aircraft losing all of its engines. I could never trust these obviously top-heavy vessels in rough seas.
