Our table played Curse of Strahd for 5e and we voted on using the "Crunchy Crit" house rule for both players and monsters. It was a tonne of fun (for us), and there were moment where player characters almost got downed from full health. I am somewhere in the middle in this. House rules are fine, but they are at play, they should apply to everyone at the table. I do find low-damage crits to be a bit anticlimactic, but if the "Crunchy Crits" are at play, it is only fair that I get hit with crunchy crits as well. How people play depends between tables. No table is for everyone and noone enjoys every table.

Basic AC is that number 1-20 on the weapon sheet. If want bonuses like +5, +15 it can be achieved in many ways. Superior smithing can give you +bonuses, or magical bonus.

@@dtandersen IF I remeber correctly. 17-20 are plate armor. 17 is breast plate only. If adding leg and hand graves its now a 18. 19 is half plate (plate armor but chan armor in some places like joints) and 20 is full plate. And if someone wears full plate, it is useally high quality so really common to have at least some bonuses to defencive bonus. I may have some things wrong as I have played 1st and 2nd edition mixed, so not 100% accuracy

Great video. You said a bunch of things that I've been thinking for a while. Not just TTRPGs, but in video games as well, in recent years players seem to be focusing on the story aspect more than the game aspect. I hate this because it seems like they are trying to subvert a genre. If they truly like a genre, they shouldn't criticize the very fundamentals of what defines the genre. Nowadays I see gamers mock the defining elements of the genres they supposedly are fans of by referring to these beloved foundations as "tropes" that need to be done away with.

I already known those of Dark Sun, and I liked the distinction between part/sections/pieces separate armor rules. But I would like also rules to simulate the cumulative wear and damage of weapons and armor. If I can't find anything... @@SageMasterRPG Really, thank you very much for responding. I have been trying to find people on my own who know about the subject, authentically, and I found a traditional armorer with years of experience with swords and their history who told me that a sword made of good iron, or steel, could reach last 2 years of lifespan (but of course, it depends on the amount/frequency of use, and even during times of war the battles could be spread over time with spaces of several months. So this average lifespan data gives me some idea but not too much). On the other hand, another person told me that a copper sword, or even a bronze one, is not viable with a longer length than a short sword due to the low hardness of the metal (same reason why there could be no viable rapier swords made of copper or bronze, as they would not withstand even one or two clashes and would already bend or break) and loses its edge quickly; Another person even told me that a copper sword could last you about 5 uses and you had to get another one (I suppose he was referring to uses in battles... or use it to cut several tree branches or things like that), but I don't know who that last one was... so I can't be sure if he really knew about the subject, and he didn't clarify if he was referring to the sword breaking or simply losing its edge. In any case, with a copper sword or spear/arrow heads, is relatively easy to make a clay oven almost anywhere and in that improvised oven reach the temperature to remelt the copper sword or dagger to recover it even if it had broken (which It cannot be done with swords made of good iron or steel, since these are made by hammer blows on an anvil and once the pure metal of an iron or steel sword was achieved, in medieval times there were no means to reach the temperatures of more than 1000 degrees Celsius to melt iron or steel). The thing in the Lord of the Rings movie where elves put the pieces of Isildur's sword back together is NOT realistic, at least in the way they show you that the elves did it... if they had made the elves go to a volcano to melt the pieces of that sword in the lava it would have been realistic. I'm going to look for that Arms Law to see those rules, when I find them and read them I will come back here to tell you what. Meanwhile, if you can specify which edition this Arms Law is from, I would appreciate it. Or are they in all the editions?

The rolling for getting a spell list for a caster was only with the early version of RM. IIRC, from RMC and beyond, as you spend dev pts in a spell list, and each purchase of the spell list skill made it so you can cast spells up to that level (instead of a 'chance' to cast that list). > I agree with the being able to cast spells that you know & suffer the (neg 10)/lvl of the spell above your character level. I use the same in my games too. I taught myself RM way back in '86 by using the blue Character Law & created a character following the book. The rules follow the same concepts over and over, so once you get a grip on that, the games becomes easy. There are a of options available and makes it look intimidating by the sheer volume of charts, books, etc. There aren't that many rules themselves > You have to create your character based on 10 stats & you use development points (DP's) to buy skills > The class you choose will make some skills easier to develop and others harder. Ex: a Fighter develops weapon skills for low DP cost, and could choose to develop Open spells at a high DP cost. A Magician, conversely, can develop spells for low DP cost, and skills like weapons, body development (ie. hitpoints) for a high DP cost. The class makes it easier/harder to develop certain skills. To try to do 'something' in the game, you have a d100 roll + your skill bonuses (which includes your stat bonuses) + bonuses/penalties for circumstances = success or failure. > For combat --> you have d100 roll + offensive/defensive bonuses + bonuses/penalties for circumstances = Look on the chart for your weapon vs armor to find the damage you do Once you have this part down, the game is very scalable as the characters level up. You dont have the same power jump issues that D&D has at higher levels. I do acknowledge/reiterate that there are a of options so that is why it seems complicated. You can choose to use those options or not. I grew up starting with the blue book D&D. RM is still my favorite game system out there (RMSS specifically), and I have every version & most of the individual books for all the versions of RM. I am currently learning the nuances of RMU now since it came out recently. I came across your video today SageMaster. Thank you for posting it. 🙂 BGH

My grandparents had a set of them things, eons ago, such fun times. 3D printed textured panels would be a major change from the original clear plastic sheets with print/paint on them, would be interesting to see someone do that. the overlapping on the verticals may need some work, can't over lap 3D printed stuff as easily as the printed/painted cellophane sheets on them pegs that hold the panels. P.S. not the food packing cellophane sheets, go to an office supply outlet, go to the 3-ring binder section, and look at the clear plastic binder things you put papers into, that cellophane (it's got some rigidity to it).

Hello, I'm coming back here to let you know that the link given by the esteemed owner of the channel does not seem to be working. The site seems to have gone down, currently you can only access the site through another link... I tried to copy and paste that link in this comment but apparently RUclips automatically deletes my comment if it contains a link. With that new link you can only see the images that contain several tokens together but only in low resolution... when you try to click on that image to obtain a high resolution/larger size the link simply seems to be broken.

You must type a statement first then you can insert a link. I checked my link and using good ole windows 10, it is working.

@@SageMasterRPG Master, when you told me this I thought it was my problem because on my usual old and trusty notebook I still use Windows 7. But I have already tried with a PC with Windows 10 and using the link that you gave I still get the same problem: error message about the site cannot be found. And searching on Google I see that I am not the only one who has had this happen, in a forum I found the alternative of using something called waybackmachine: an extension to the link that is placed in front of your link starting with "web archive" (I can't put the link because RUclips automatically deletes my comment) and with that I can access to the website but it happens to me that I can only see the images in their small version since when I click on them it gives me the error message again. So I can only save those previews of the images.

A few days ago I was remembering you, because of what you were saying about the advantages of paper miniatures, because I found the supplement book "Marvel Super Heroes Adventure Fold-Up Figures" (from 1984 if I'm not mistaken). Even better than what is usually found because they are not just to have the flat token/template but each character comes with 3 poses (back, sideways and front) to form like a prism with a triangular base. I hadn't seen that kind of paper miniature before. Thank you for sharing this material, the benefits of 3 decades of the internet I suppose ;D
