Dominate your Opponents Graveyard in Commander | Magic: The Gathering
Cool vid!
Thanks, the deck has seen a few upgrades since filming but it's still my go to graveyard deck. 👌
The main problem with zimone isn’t the landfall triggers. It’s protecting her, getting the most value for her ability (she’s essentially an omniscience in the command zone for permanents), and getting cards that you don’t want face down such as counter spells or instant speed removal back to the hand. “Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar” and “Rambling Possum” are my personal picks to bounce things to the hand. That Worldly tutor has at least a 2 times higher chance to end up face down or in the grave than your hand (if you manifest dread more than once each turn per turn cycle that means you’re seeing 8 cards from the top of the deck being sent to grave or put face-down. Making it a 1:8 ratio instead.) So ways to get stuff back to hand is crucial. It’s also super easy to go infinite and deck yourself out so “Labratory maniac” is relatively ideal.
Was that $50 in upgrades 😅
Maybe more to be honest needlehead has spiked like crazy it was $5 on release
Deck list: www.moxfield.com/decks/KAxnRO3AO02BgssaDaG7nw
Decklist??
www.moxfield.com/decks/KAxnRO3AO02BgssaDaG7nw
That's what's up homie 😎
Leaving cards like Deadbridge is I think very important as well as adding cards to get rid of the finality counters. Winter is a very good precon and very easy to upgrade aswell
Removing of finality counters would be a beautiful touch in a full build allowing that repeatability for consistent value 👌
Slow the fuck down man lol jeez
There's... A lot i disagree with here. Removal of Sol Ring is always insane, but aside from that i think you are leaning way too heavily into getting multiple landfalls a turn. You only manifest dread if its the first time the ability triggers each turn, so if you have the potential to drop 3 lands on your turn, the third isn't going to do you any good because you won't have anything to flip. Instead, I think you want to try to trigger the first ability on each person's turn, then flip up the best stuff that you find. Creatures like Walking Atlas that allow you to tap and put a land into play allow you to manifest dread at instant speed, and having a bounce land to use with them means you will never run out of fodder for them. This would combo well with something like Seedborn Muse. Also, you named Avenger Of Zendikar as a potential big threat for the deck, and I couldn't disagree more. Avenger's strength comes from his etb, which does not trigger if he gets manifested and then flipped face up. You would need to hard cast him, and finding him off the top on a manifest dread would be a huge bummer. In general im staying away from almost all ETB effects in this deck
I agree with a lot of what you say here, I understand most people don't like removal of sol ring and is an instant pain point. Sorry about that but honestly in my opinion synergy is great than power. The reason for adding so many ways to play multiple land drops is not so we can play 6 lands on each turn its so we can find a card that gives us the effect so we can make sure each game we play we can do at least two land drops. To face down a permanent and then flip it up if need to. Like you mention the good plays are to use your fetches on opponents turns etc and that's where you extract the high power from this deck not by mindlessly dropping everything on main phase and passing turn. Tap to enter effects are great to landfall every turn as well but your land count would have to be very high to be able to do that all the time you would also need an huge amount of card draw to keep up with that effect so while it sounds great it isn't practical as you would sacrifice a lot of slots in the deck to do that consistently. The problem with this video is that i don't state my goal it's just implied and with these upgrades im looking to make the deck more consistent without changing the entirety of the deck itself; it's a loose upgrade afterall to inspire people as most people don't want the same cookie cutter deck everyone else has. If you want to see a full upgrade version I did a no budget version which runs all the fetch lands and recast them from graveyard so you can trigger land falls every turn. Also yes it sucks if you manifest away your zendikar but could say that about any card. That's part of the variance of MTG and venturing into a whole top deck manipulation to stop that takes the deck even further away from what it's trying to do. Thank you for your feedback definitely would like to hear your thoughts on the no budget version. Also please feel free to share your deck lists for her. 👍
@@Spencer4686 Won't "Tap to play a land" cards and "Play 2 lands a turn" cards both lead to you needing a high land count and losing card advantage fast? At least with the "Tap to play a land" cards you can choose what is more valuable in the moment... either more bodies on board by saving your extra land drops for your opponents turns, or flipping important cards right away on your turn. Instead of the "Play another land on your turn" cards being restricted to sorcery speed, the "Tap to play a land" cards can serve either purpose... multiple landfalls in a turn, or better board presence, or flipping at instant speed if you have more than one of them available (or if you are playing a tap land out on your opponents turn, just one of the creatures is enough to flip something at instant speed) To go with your approach of stating a goal for the deck... I would want to build this not in the direction of "Flip every single thing I find off the top, guaranteed", I would probably want to build this as "Get a big board presence of small manifests, with my opponent not knowing if they are valuable permanents or duds I found off the top. Then I can flip the good pieces I find". I have also been playing with morph / disguise creatures that have good flip abilities, so that I can get extra value off flipping them at good times. This is more a thematic choice than anything, I would definitely say I am handicapping myself trying to mess around with morph, lol. Cards I would recommend regardless of whether you are playing with morphs or not: Threats Around Every Corner - Literally made for this commander Printlifter Ooze - Get extra big, trample-y bodies for flipping your stuff face up Vannifar, Evolved Enigma - Either buff your board of face downs or get a big piece out of your hand and face down on the battlefield Experiment Twelve - Makes the stuff you flip up a bit scarier Roiling Regrowth / Entish Restoration / Harrow - Instant speed ramp that has at least 2 lands enter, meaning you can manifest and flip something on an opponents turn Grazilaxx, Illithid Scholar - Card Advantage at best, at worst you purposefully swing with an instant or sorcery that got manifested and you can bounce it back to hand so you get to cast it
@@Sendoria you should definitely check out the no budget version. 👌👍Might align more to your play style.
They’ll prob just ban em. Pass.
Undergrowth Recon helps with extra landfall triggers. Add the lands that fetch basics when they etb from New Capenna (Brokers Hideout, etc). Ticking Gnomes + Yedora + Zimone is an infinite combo (assuming you already played a land).
Would it happen when during the upkeep? I’m confused on that infinite
Nvm I get it. Just play land, then sac gnome, Yedora triggers, gnome comes back face down as a land, triggers zimone to flip, and then loop that until you’ve pinged 40 at everyone at the table? Seems stupid good haha now I gotta add gnome
I would really like to know becuase I feel like this could be me not understanding how to build but removing high mana value enchantments in this deck isn't great because it kinda skips over the mana curve, right?
It all comes down to the cost and effect, you can check out the full video on my channel for more explanation.
Really Clear and easy to follow definitely sharing with the new play group. Thank you! 👍
No problem glad I could help 😁👍
Prof: buy singles! RC: we’ll see about that. 😈 😆
Prof: buy singles Everyone: your old but cool
I'm curious why you didn't cut any enchantments, especially Sandwurm convergence, it's cool and strong but soooo slow and doesn't really have anything to do with what the deck wants. Zimmones Hypothesis, Dig Through Time, kinda mid imo. Eureka moment sounds cool but when will you be using that to where it wouldn't be giving an opponent the largest creature? I can't imagine casting that while your own board is ahead and you just nuke it for a vanilla big boy? You'd be casting it when your opponent is the threat and you not only wipe your own board but give them the biggest benefit in the end. Also Giggling Skitterspike, very cool card and all, but doesn't really do anything for us, would rather have something like Uro or Vannifar that actually contributes to what the deck wants to do.
DO NOT CUT YEDORA. it makes your creatures unkillable because they just just reenter as forests triggering zimone and flipping them back over
Yeah, a lot of this video makes zero sense. Ten ways to play additional lands?? Why?? Add fetches and graveyard recursion like Crucible of Worlds and Ranumap Excavator. Adding a couple extra land cards like Exploration and Azusa makes sense, but 10 is excessive. I'm also adding things like Stratus Dancer as flippable counterspells. And for things like that you definitely want to keep Kheru. Also making all of your manifests 4/4s with Curator is really good since they keep those counters and it's an additional manifest every turn. I think the things that make the most sense are the 5 ramp additions.
@@AmbrotosArkhon the addition of exploration is redundant imo. I would far rather add burgeoning which would mean if an opponent plays a land you (the zimone player) plays one too. This is a way to manifest dread every turn rather than just your own. So when it gets back to you any Azusa + crucible effect flips you a ton of card that wouldn’t have summoning sickness.the best lands to add are clearly fetches (for my money it’s fable passage and the new capena ones) but ya 10 ways!? Unneeded
@@LilyWater84 I think Burgeoning does have a place in the deck but it's moreso for the manifest on every other turn than the extra lands. My problem with Burgeoning is that it specifically has to be from hand and that it's almost $30 lmao. I think the goal is going to be to always have fetches on board that way you can sac one at instant speed and flip a counter. Burgeoning is hella useful for that since it can also let you get a land drop for two triggers.
@@AmbrotosArkhon oh I definitely agree with it being for manifest NOT for lands. As for extra lands in hand. Simic Growth Chamber is your friend and any way to fetch it like crop rotation is fantastic for the deck
Cutting Oversimplify makes zero sense as well. It's arguably the best simic board wipe as it exiles all creatures and will most likely give you back a bigger beater than your opponents because you're playing simic. I made my whole play group scoop because I cast an Oversimplify when I had 5 10/10 eldrazi tokens, multiple instances of Adrix and Nev, and a bunch of other beaters which added up to a grand total of 99
TOKENS PLEASE! :)
I hope it continues to ban things and shake things up AND Thank God it's gone bro I swear to jah the meta hasn't changed in years it's time to stop I started in 2016 The meta started 2011 It's 2024 yall had 13 Years of the same deckbuilding YEARS 13
I was building this version of Bumbleflower but it felt bad completely ignoring her +1/+1 counter ability. Build doesn't feel like it really utilizes her. She can be replaced very easily
I view her +1/+1 counters as support they help pump your creatures allowing you to block more effectively and allowing your little creatures to grow and stay relavant. This definitely could have more of a focus I just went down the card route as cards are a game winning resource and who doesn't always want a full grip if not more haha 😂
I don't buy anything anymore, only proxy, F. Wotc that have banned jeweled lotus
This deck gives me counterbalance legacy vibes❤❤
Hey man, love this video, found your recommendations really useful and you speak really well. Just some feedback, I found the background music distracting, I feel like you could do without it!
Thanks dude I appreciate it. 👍 The music is something I decided to try in this video I don't normally do it, I will adjust and test some more turn it down/off like you suggest. Thanks for the feedback. 👍❤️
1:10 Feed the Swarm is the 4th most played black card on edhrec specifically because it deals with enchantments 2:40 Valgavoth's Lair won't trigger enchantresses, they're cast triggers
Cedh should have its own ban list
With commander being a player created format who is going to take that on?
@@Spencer4686 just have the RC unban every card done
cEDH shouldn't exist.
This gonna be then catalyst for format split
I honestly thought that would be the next big announcement.
Jeweled lotus died for the sins of sol ring
Thank God bruh
Got to greedy your supposed to slot the lotus for le ring
Its a pot shot from the cag community onto cedh. We need separate lists
But why slow down the format that is meant to be done with the game by turn 4? We like it that way so we can get more games in. I dont want to sit around for an hour playing high powered magic. I want to watch somebody go off and flip their deck and try and win turn two just to get countered.
Everyone has a way they like to play. longer games means they have a bigger design space for cards.
@Spencer4686 which is fine for the casual players. This ban doesn't affect them outside of pubstompers that refuse to rule zero though.
@@blasiensteinw3676 If you think only cedh players have these cards you're delusional. They just wiped out millions of $ from players and LGS.
I'm really saddened by this announcement. Took me a long time to save up to get these cards and now they're tanking in value. Makes me not want to spend money
Yeah it hit a lot of people very hard financially but with the commander being the biggest format now it's probably changed how the RC seems the format.
@@Spencer4686 commander has been the biggest format since Modern Horizons 1 wrecked the most popular format at the time, modern.
"You can get rid of Sol Ring, honestly." No. I stopped watching. Do better.
I honestly thought the next big announcement for commander was a going to be a format split but here we have it B&R : magic.wizards.com/en/news/announcements/commander-banned-and-restricted-announcement-september-23-2024
I had 5 cards in mind for my upgrade, Greed- for instant speed card draw Penance- to let me capitalize on that draw Greater Auramancy- to protect my enchantments from targeted removal Starfield of Nyx- to turn all my big enchantments into huge creatures Gift of immortality- to make Aminatou extremely frustrating to remove
Fantastic suggestions here, love the gift of immortality I should really run that in more decks where my commander needs protection. 👌
What would you swap out for the deflecting swat and mana barbs?
I would probably cut Spiteful Visions while it does damage your opponents each time they draw it also gives them an extra card. Same with Stormfist Crusader Brash Taunter could be a cut but also a keep as it has quite a few infinite damage combos Blood Artist could also be cut as I removed most of the sacrifice cards so triggering its effect is more incidentally then deliberate. Hope that helps.
Can you make a guide for winter, cynical but put more of an agro spin on it? I'm currently trying to build a winter agro deck, but would love some help.
I can't make a specific guide for you but here's some ideas... You could add some more evasive creatures flying/menace are pretty common in black with effects that surveil on attack etc you could use cards like rankle master of pranks so you can pick what you put in graveyards and sac stuff to give yourself delirium. You would need a solid stock of artifact and enchantment creatures if going down this road. The following cards could be good... nightveil sprite, appendage amalgam, clandstein meddler would be able to give a creature evasion and surveil. This seems like a more casual/fun strategy for this deck but definitely an interesting take. Would love to see the deck list!
@@Spencer4686Thanks so much this helped a lot!
Am I the only one that feels like "play a second land this turn" effects are bad? I always find myself out of lands in my hand fast and end up playing 1 land a turn anyway... To me spells that place more lands tapped on board at once always felt more effective even if they are more expensive. But it's a land fall deck at the end of the day, you can afford expensive spells so why not? This way you also don't have to fill your deck with 40+ lands 💀
Depends on the deck... If you're out of lands in hand and can't trigger your land fall effects then a few more lands would definitely help after all playing lands generates you the resources you need to win both in terms of mana on board and also the landfall triggers. In this deck because of the commanders ability we want to put something face down and then flip it up for instant value so in this deck I feel multiple lands every turn is a more constant value to build up to an overwhelming board state rather than just casting a scapeshift... And someone removing your commander in response.. (sad times) Some loose maths here... 42 lands gives us about a 40% chance to make our 6th land drop naturally. If we cast commander on turn 4 that only gives us 2 triggers of the commander on separate turns that's 2 face down 2/2's . We definitely want more value off than that if we're trying to win, specifically when we know games tend to close out/end around turn 9/10.

wondering, why Ankh of Mishra instead of Polluted Bonds? Same effect but we get life in addition 😅 or is it worth to add that one in addition?
It's a 2 drop Vs a 5 drop In my opinion Ankh of Mishra will have more impact across a game than polluted bonds.
I will cut Stormfist Crusader instantly, very bad card that does nothing. Also Barbflare Gremlin, why would I want anyone to ramp that much, even tho it deals one damage to them they still can add more mana, so at the end its not that good. Changed that right away for Manabarbs. And as for Sign in Blood and Harsh Mentor, I wouldn't cut that, sign in blood is actually good on yourself, you don't want an opponent to draw two cards, lose two life, but I agree there is better options for that one, even tho you didn't include it. And I would change the Lizard for Rug of Smothering
The one I preordered when lists released. So nice
Regarding Harsh Mentor: Depends on the playgroup meta I guess, but a lot of clues and food tokens are around nowadays and their sacrifice ability is in fact an activated ability. I think for 2 mana its good enough to keep unless you know that no one will be playing stuff like that. Additionally, what some might also forget is that equip abilities of equipments are also affected. So yeah, maybe not a lot of creatures around with activated abilities, but definitely artifacts.
True it could heavily affect how the treasure deck plays. so like you said if you're in heavy treasure meta then could be worth keeping it in. 👍
@@Spencer4686 I think treasures are the only think not affected because it should be a mana ability.
@@MalteLewandowski treasure are not mana abilities. 605.1a An activated ability is a mana ability if it meets all of the following criteria: it doesn’t require a target (see rule 115.6), it could add mana to a player’s mana pool when it resolves, and it’s not a loyalty ability. (See rule 606, “Loyalty Abilities.”)
@@Spencer4686 you posted the correct rule, which in fact states that the ability of a treasure (tap&sac to create a mana) is a mana ability ;) The activated ability of a Treasure token counts as a mana ability, per rule 605. 605.1a An activated ability is a mana ability if it meets all of the following criteria: it doesn't have a target, it could add mana to a player's mana pool when it resolves, and it's not a loyalty ability.

Thanks for the feedback glad you enjoyed it, I'll make sure to give the audio a little boost.
Awesome upgrades ! I really like chandra on this deck, with the emblem that makes your opponnents lose life for the rest of the game and there is nothing they can do to remove it
Yeah that emblem can be nasty especially if you can easily defend her. 👌
