Hi everyone, welcome to my channel! My name is Gord, and I'm in the landscaping business, specializing in brick pavers and stonework. I also love to explore gardens here in Canada, and over in Japan, since I lived there for 3 years, and visit now and then. So please subscribe to my channel, and look forward to more videos of me building and exploring gardens at home, and in Japan! For all my videos I use a DJI Osmo Pocket; such a great little camera! Enjoy!

Banzan Daibaiji Zen Temple: Sendai's Hidden Gem!

Welcome to Banzan Daibaiji Zen Temple, a true hidden gem in Sendai! This place is almost completely unknown, even among locals. Probably only known to members of the temple, as well as hikers, as the temple is at the trail head for hiking Mount Banzan. What I love about Daibaiji the most is the collection of mysterious statues. I wish I knew the story behind them, but each time I visit Daibaiji...

Extreme Backyard Makeover: Timelapses With Osmo Pocket!

Welcome to my latest project! I traveled to Lake Tahoe with a friend from high school to help another friend from high school with his backyard. We had 4 days to complete this project. Day 1, we planted hedges along the back fence and partway along the side fences, as well as planting some Japanese maples. Also on day 1 we installed metal edging to keep the lawn separate from the garden and gra...
Building Stone Stairs on a Rocky Slope: Timelapses With Osmo Pocket 3!
Просмотров 2,3 тыс.8 месяцев назад
Welcome to my latest project! I'll be building stone stairs on a rocky slope. First of all, I removed all vegetation and soil until I found a nice rocky base, or until I got down to the rock slope. All the stones that I used for this project were collected on the property. I used a 4-1 mix of sand and Portland cement to make a fairly dry mix of mortar. Each tread was around 6 inches high. As yo...

When I was visiting San Diego, I went to a famous topiary garden, and while I was there, I was driving around the interesting neighborhood. This house really caught my eye because it had some of the most beautiful stonework I've ever seen! I stopped and started taking some photos; the owner saw I was admiring her front garden and invited me to also see the back garden. It was unbelievable! Here...

You know the most obscure, less-known, hidden, beautiful spots! 🙌🌲⛩
Well yes, these are all places in Sendai, where I lived for 3 years. I used to explore a lot when I lived there! Lots more to come from Sendai, and then Tokyo and Kyoto gardens!
looks very peaceful here
Video too fast
nice colors of autumn!
@@StanligFilms indeed!
Such beautiful work!
@@trixiemartin4687 thank you so much! The homeowners thought so too!
very nice garden! looks very calm
@@StanligFilms it is so calm and peaceful, however, if you go in the summer during cicada season, the noise is deafening!
Damn you must have been outta breath quickly with that pace you ran up the stairs 🤣🤣
A few weeks before I left for Japan, I was doing a lot of hiking to get in better shape for making videos. I didn't want my viewers to hear me breathing. So, yeah, I was a bit out of breath, but also trying not to breathe too loudly. Speaking of running up stairs, have you ever seen any of Rambalac's videos where he runs up long flights of stairs? He's like Rocky Balboa! 😆 Thanks for watching, my friend!
Beautiful job!
Nice tour and garden in the lush forest. 🌲✨ Perhaps Jizo statues of some kind?
@@LessTalkMoreDelicious yeah, definitely jizo statues, but I think each one is based on an actual person. I was there in 2018, and an old woman was there, maybe thought I was German, and she pointed to one of the statues and said, "That one is German."
A little nixer for ya Gordon
Not exactly sure what your comment means, but thanks for watching!
@gordchapman3469 in Ireland nixer means a small job on the side.
Wonderful
Thank you!
Amazing time-lapses! ✨✨
Thanks for watching! Stay tuned for many inspirational gardens!
Damn! Nice to have a peek at where you have been roughly. I think the lapse at 3:47 is my fav, I'm inspired and wanna go outside and shoot some timelapses now 😆 Looks like you've been around quite some bit, Miyagi and Nara prefectures are quite some bit apart!!!
Yes, I started in Sendai, then Tokyo, then Kanazawa, and finally Kyoto. Your favorite timelapse was from a place called Miyama, that has the cute old houses with the thatched roof. The two timelapses after your favorite were from the same place. Looking forward to sharing more, a lot more!
@gordchapman3469 I'm so hyped for your coming uploads and stories!
@FlexxenRandomPlaces yeah, timelapses are my favorite thing to do with my Osmo Pocket 3! When I got my first Osmo Pocket, I wanted to use it for virtual tour videos, but I started playing around with the timelapses and got hooked! Go do some! Please share!
@gordchapman3469 Actually I have made some with my pocket 2. Can't wait to film with the Pocket 3 some day!
awesome!!
@@StanligFilms Thanks! How was your trip to Japan?
@@gordchapman3469 very short trip but it was fun!
We are planning on making a flagstone steps using your videos to help and then a path to the house. Question regarding making a flagstone path for a "natural look" without mortar - will the flagstone shift around a lot if we just dig up the grass, put down a couple of inches of sand and lay flagstones right on top?
Thanks for watching! They might slightly shift, but to minimize this use a coarse sand or a fiber gravel, like screenings, and go around the edge of the flagstone with the butt of the hammer to pack the gravel under the flagstone. Add more gravel if it packs in too much, fill the void. Also, if they are in the grass, the grass roots growing around will further stabilize.
nice timelapse, the sky looks really cool
nice boat ride!
@@StanligFilms yeah, it was fun!
nice timelapse
Thanks! I worked on this project with two of my best friends from highschool. It was great fun, but a lot of work!
WoW! Absolutely Stunning And Breathtaking!
Браво.
Wow. Those sounds are enchanting! Does the water recycle through the harp? If so can you share your build plans?
@@samiam9359 Sorry, my build plans are in my head. All you need to make your own is an upside down pot in a few inches of water and a small pond pump. The pump circulates the water. To find a suitable pot, go to a place that sells pots and rap the pot with your knuckle to see if it rings like a bell. Buy the one that makes the best sound. Also the pot should have only one hole in the center of the bottom. To get an idea of how it sounds, fill up your bathtub or large sink with 3 or 4 inches of water, put the pot upside down in the water and pour a little bit of water in the hole on the bottom of the pot. It should make a nice sound. For circulating water, put the little pump in the water, outside the pot, and somehow run the water to the hole in the bottom of the pot. It's ok if all the water doesn't go into the hole, in fact, it's better if just a little bit drips in. I can't tell you how to set it all up because every one is different. My pump runs the water through a little hose, out the bamboo spout, into the basin, and then the basin overflows and some of the water runs into the hole at the bottom of the pot. However you do it, the pot should be concealed, that part is up to you. Good luck! Let me know if you need any other pointers.
a true craftsman!
@@dancullen7767 Thank you!
Amazing video 👍
@@pointofviewgr Thanks, but I think we should give Mother Nature props for this one! I've travelled a fair bit in my life but Emerald Bay is one of the most beautiful places I've ever been to! Crystal clear water, mountainous scenery, and it's a no wake zone, so it's nice and quiet with calm water. Also, props to whoever built that mini castle on the island in Emerald Bay. We had to swim to the island from the boat, so I didn't want to risk dropping my Osmo Pocket 3 in the water, so I didn't get any footage of hiking up to the mini rock castle.😕
Hello This is a video of "Flying From Seattle to Victoria" It's a very nice flight Thank you for the great video 😊🙇👉🔔
The brick floor was too much, slate maybe or concrete; just my opinion.
@@guanaco1172 Thanks for watching.
Looks great!!!
What a lovely garden, great job on the suikinkutsu!
Thank you so much!
Your steps are beautiful but your video stinks .not enough info on the build.
Muito bom!!
I enjoyed your flight in 3 min! thanks
Gord this is the work of a master. Where can a beginner source stones for a project like this? 4:1 sand and cement it looks like from previous comments. Any other tips you would suggest for someone doing a small DIY backyard stairs?
I'm not sure what the rock situation in your area is, but here we often have to blast rock to make way for a house foundation. There are many places that stock stone from the blasting. Choose rocks that are squarish or rectangularish, or at least have one 90 degree corner for the front of the steps. Good luck!

Wow fabulous garden and amazing work
Thank you, and yes, it's an amazing garden that the homeowner has been working on for decades! The owner actually used to be the previous owner's landscaper, and helped create the garden. Eventually, he bought the house from the homeowner.. I've done a few smaller projects in this garden; have a look at one of my older videos, called "Working in a Japanese Garden". It takes a longer stroll through this amazing garden. Thanks for watching!
beautiful. Did you have steps there before at one time? the video looked so easy like you were just scraping off dirt and overgrown grass on first part of video.
Yes, I had to remove old steps that had wooden risers and artificial turf treads.
Cool Gord!
As cool as the lake?🤔😆
Çok fazla şık olabilmesi için bazı yerlerin yapılması gerekirdi bence göz yoruyor
Lovley, iw got to make one of my own 🙂

The Stair Master at work! 👏
Oh man that's amazing. Is there a non time lapse version? Would love to learn how to do this in my yard. It turned out great!
You’re using rocks of all sizes-how are you getting them all level? Mortar underneath to make them all come up even with mortar filling in the gaps?
That's right.
Love the steps! I’m trying to use up broken concrete (“urbanite”) to form steps through my sloped garden. I wish that at least with one step, you’d slow down the videos so we could better see exactly what you’re doing to achieve this.
