Breathe Deep: Transformative Power of Diaphragmatic Breathwork with Kurtis Lee Thomas - Episode 315
This is very enlightening. I am currently studying for a Master's in psychology and have not heard about Black Psychology - although this UK degree does cover cross sectionality. As a black woman, I will definitely do more research.
Thank you.
Hey! Just a quick message from a devoted viewer. Your content is top-notch-best of luck to you! Hi there! I’m one of your regular viewers and just wanted to say how much I appreciate your amazing content. Good luck!
I have been doing chronic pain meditation along with my identity in christ and prayer and vagabond nerve reset. Some days are better but trusting God to heal me threw healing scriptures
CBT I did not understand at all, so annoying, I only got bored and more pain because I had to answer useless questions? I did not even know what to say and kept wondering why did he ask me this or that ever after (only more anxiety unwanted one as insecure feel). I thought I came to hear why I have pain (because of real issue) and not made up talk, I got very annoyed and near argued. I even gave him chance few times, but nothing, only annoying and cause more pain just to talk. It's painful to talk, not like you guys can talk a lot but saying you are in pain? It is painful to talk, you know?
I have fibromyalgia but nothing that you guys talk about pain processing etc danger does not apply. May be you are over sensitive because of menopause or medication and that's why? I do not understand anything, it's pain and I can not affect it lol and anxiety it helps pain (adrenaline) not like you saying something else. I have different pain, all the time pain and not because of some emotional. Also you have no proof that pain is not due to real problem. They just can't find unless severe case of disease when clear cause.
There is proof in research that has been done showing that fibromyalgia can get better.
Thank you Dr. Brucato.
I have fibromyalgia and rheumatoid arthritis pain on different level
I am new to this type of approach to combatting pain . I have been living with a diagnosis of CRPS for 15 yrs now . I am both open to yet very skeptical this approach to treating my pain . I am working with a Pain Psychologist who guiding me towards this type of treatment protocol . Thank you for yet another affirmation that this type of treatment is in fact real . Another item I have found in question is the amount of opioids I have been on affecting my brain processing anything . Is it fair to say that use of opioids repressed this function of neuro plasticity ? Again thank you for this information .
Dr Gary won't say it but I will...some people are evil.
Always interested to listen to Dr Brucato, wish he had his own podcast
He's everybody's favorite guest star! I love him
Thank you again for having me on your podcast, I really enjoyed the conversation and hope that I brought some value to your listeners. Melissa
Sounds like another money making scheme praying on people with chronic pain!
Not knowing I had Hypermobity Ehler's Danlos until two years ago has been quite a blow. Turns out the whiplash could not heal as all over my body my ligaments are like string vs rope as intended. It was explained to me that my head is on a faulty foundation. It is a collagen and tissue disease with no cure. Bracing, topicals, heat, cold therapies are all I have. Certain areas are worse due to injuries earlier in life as well. Appears aging with it is quite challenging. Trying to be positive but affected from the soles of my feet to the top of my head. It can affect any system of the body. I have challenges there, too.
I suspect i might also have ED and my pain is at 0 basically always thanks to pain reprocessing. I might have to listen to a Podcast every 6 months
Thank you. This is encouraging 😊
Your idea is reframe it in your mind to ignore it. Doesnt make it better or go away. Its living and creating higher pain tolerance and ifnoring it as its fine and normal and pain is ok. This is not healthy!
THere is nothing on this planet that can treat the pain i live with except death
I have had chronic pain for 5 decades this is not a new thing. Drs have been trying this its all in your head theory is full of crap. Been there fone that since the 70s.
Myofascial pain syndrome is the most common manifestation of chronic pain. It is extremely effectively treated with a process called dry needling You cannot just think chronic pain away . Stay away from pain psychologists. It's a created job for useless people.
Dr. Brucato, I love your book. You are always so fascinating to listen to.
Yes: your face hurts
Thank you for this conversation.
What exactly the treatment involves ??
I am a retired clinical psychologist. Please tell where one can become certified in PRT. Is there a directory of qualified pain therapists.?
Google pain reprocessing therapy and you'll find the official website that offers a list of certified providers. You'll also see training programs on the website.
Excellent video. This is the kind of video that takes pride and place in my library. I love profiling, and what makes people tick is my forte. This video is extremely insightful when it comes to understanding the human mind and getting a deeper perspective into what triggers a person to become violent and why they are violent toward other people.
Very interesting. Working on my Bachelor's in Special Education and one of my courses was talking about HP/HP schools so I went looking for more information. This video was very informative, thank you for sharing!
There is not a single therapist dealing in PRT who will give you the exact tools to handle a bad flare-up even when you have thoroughly convinced yourself you are healed and this is, metaphorically speaking, a false fire alarm. All they have to offer is -- 'accept without focusing on the inevitable emotional aspect of the pain, don't fight it, tell yourself everything is fine and ride the wave'. This is at best a coping strategy, not a remedial one. The science can tell you loads about the underlying mechanism but comes up short when you need tangible results.
I don't think there are exact tools. It's based on the individual
Unfortunately the only way out of chronic pain is through acceptance that your pain is being caused by central sensitisation also known by various other names such as TMS. Getting to this acceptance is of course incredibly difficult, if not impossible for most people. I am living proof of a person who has overcome debilitating pain and other symptoms for as long as I can remember and I have also been hospitalised twice because of the mental toll it took on me. However, you are probably wondering why I am now here commenting on a video when I am cured? Well, the answer is that I am back in chronic pain but in a different part of my body and I am going through the same process that everybody else goes through where you search for an answer and nobody seems to be able to tell you what's wrong in your body. Currently I have chronic shoulder and arm pain and despite very expensive and extensive medical tests I have yet to receive a solid diagnosis. I am at the point where I have to again bring myself to the acceptance that what I am experiencing is a manifestation of stress and associated emotions. The scientific literature around mind body pain is so strong now that nobody can dispute that there is a direct link between the mind and the body when it comes to chronic symptoms. Ultimately a body that is experiencing stress, or call it anxiety, is in an altered state and when the body is in such an altered state pain or other symptoms is an obvious consequence. I don't think there are exact tools to bring about pain relief. I can only speak from my own experience but all the symptoms I have personally overcome only went away when I had no option but to realise that behind the pain was fear. I have had more therapy Than most people that I know are none of it brought about relief. An example of My pain was chronic and debilitating headaches 24 hours a day for well over 20 years. As you can imagine my life was living hell because I had to essentially adjust everything I did to accommodate my suffering. I am absolutely telling the truth that one day I sat in the car crying my eyes out because I wanted to have a nice day at the beach with my wife and yet I was in excruciating pain. I went home sat on the bed and literally told myself that enough was enough and I kind of had a moment of clarity. It just hit me like a ton of bricks that I was perpetually feeding this pain because I was frightened to death of it. I decided that I was going to no longer let the pain dictate my life and I started to do everything and everything that I considered a normal person would do. Within about two months these headaches completely and utterly disappeared and have never returned. Unfortunately, pain moved to various other parts of my body and I had to go through a similar process where I was worried to death about what was going on before I came to the same realisation. At one point in this journey I had a brain scan because I thought something serious must be wrong. The results of this scan were that my brain and the rest of my body was absolutely fine and the consultant who gave me my results actually adamantly stated that my issue was rooted in stress and anxiety. I simply did not believe him and I continue to suffer for quite some time before that day came along when I had simply change my mind about what was going on.
Agree, doesn't help or reduce the pain is real!
Cured me

Thank You so much for speaking with me !!!
When I had young children toddlers and I was home alone with them all day with continued responsibility into the evening when my partner was home I swear I heard or had thoughts in a different voice telling me horrible things I would shake my head and tell the voice no out loud if anybody had ever seen me doing it my children might have been taken away. I love my children and always have they are now adults but I couldn't cope with them and was afraid to admit to anybody. It is so important partners and families ask these questions even to seemingly coping mothers it is so draining you literally can lose your own self and become almost another person. My children were well behaved but with a few health problems which gave me further reasons for stress the self doubt is horrible and potentially a trigger for some people. So I can relate to the hearing voices as people state but more in a suggestive way than a direct command in my case giving me ultimate control.
I feel for you and I understand where you're coming from. Parenting these days is so overwhelming it's almost inhumane to expect people to cope without losing in some form or another. All the best for you.
I had those intrusive thoughts too when my kids were young (toddlers also) and I was exhausted. I had no rest , no free days, responsibility 24/7, months on end, it can make you literally go crazy.
Parenting is still regarded by some as something that is " instinctive" rather than learned. It's so important for parents to speak up as you have done, and demand to be heard.
I remember when she cut the cords on the jump on the other woman.
Dr. Brucato is the best and I could listen to him for hours. Let’s see if his lovely voice puts me to sleep 🛌
We in the USA are very fortunate to have a freshly caught mass killer in Bryan Christopher Kohberger to put under the microscope. He seems to have had a caring upbringing from devoted parents with no family abuse. His female schoolmates may have been abusive to him. He seems to be socially awkward due to some reason we don't yet know. He seems to have developed violent ideas for reasons we do not yet know. The upcoming trial should tell us more. Particularly if he chooses to testify. Your input would be elucidating.
Gary we need you back to talk more about bk!! You are fascinating to listen to!!

Groped anybody recently Ned?
Remember, Ned Hallowell has a private practice. He works for Ned Hallowell. It is in his interests for more people to be diagnosed with what is called ADHD. So that's why he pushes it and promotes it when he can. He's the energizer bunny in the ADHD field. And he expands what is classed as ADHD. And pushes and plugs their drugs. He's taken big pharma money in the past. A lot of the time a kid in the US would be diagnosed with ADHD. In Europe not. He claims 15% have ADHD, 15%. 15%. The DSM says 5%. The APA says 5%. And he recommends you are drugged. So that's 10% of the US, I think it is 32 million people taking very powerful, very strong amphetamines and long lasting Cocaine for a condition they don't have, if you listen to him. My advice is don't. He's an extremely dangerous and wicked individual who cares largely about Ned Hallowell. His statements are absolutely ridiculous, nonsensical and contradictory. I don't think an asshole like Ned Hallowell would get anywhere in Europe or New Zealand or Japan for example. Only in the US can he be made an authority figure in ADHD. I'm originally from the US and I realize what a joke he is. And a sick one at that. Just ask yourself. Why do you think Ned never mentions the risks and dangerous of Adderall and Ritalin? Why doesn't he mention people with ADHD who have done well without them? Or people who've tried them and don't work and more to the point why doesn't he use them?
