Educational Hen Vocalizations
If you're new to turkey hunting, this video is for you! The first step in calling is getting your tone right. This video helps with the second step which is rhythm. Not only do you have to sound like a turkey, but the cadence of your calling has to match real turkey vocalizations. Notice how this hen does a series of rapid clucks followed by a shorter series of yelps. Keep in mind turkeys don't always sounds like this, but this hen was trying to locate surrounding birds. You can't hear in the video, but other hens in the timber and one distant gobbler responded to her calling. So the next time you're out hunting trying to find birds, get fired up like this hen and locate some gobblers! Go...

Do you notice a difference with tying the vine right to the limb vs letting it hang by a rope??
No I don't really see a difference in deer activity. I think it looks more natural tied to a bent over tree. Also it is hidden better and not so obvious when hunting public land.
Why do u pack it down
We seed right into the standing buckwheat that we plant in June. It acts as a smother crop to shade out weeds, the roots aerate the soil, and it draws phosphorus out of the soil for the fall seed to use. Then we crush the buckwheat down on top of the seed. It holds moisture and incubates the seed. Also holds the seed in place so any down pours don't wash the seed away.
