I used to visit Marty sometimes, back in the eighties and nineties. Early one Sunday morning, when I was there, she dragged me out of bed to go photograph a new mural she'd been keeping an eye on. The mural was a large commemorative portrait of a fallen marine. It remained unfinished because the family and friends who had commissioned it, couldn't agree on the words that should go on the wavy banner underneath. Apparently, they had been fighting over this for days. Marty was nervous because back then there was always a chance the mural would get tagged soon after it was done and she was eager to take a nice “clean” picture of it. So when she got the call she'd been waiting for, she roused me out of bed-“we got to go!” Clearly no time for brushing my teeth or otherwise make myself look presentable. When it comes to her work, Marty means business. In those situations, I was needed mostly for security. “Try to look like a cop” was her go-to command, whenever things got a little dicey. The mural was beautiful and free of tags. On the banner it read: “We love you like a motherfucker”. Marty got her shot, and we laughed about it all day.

Hey ihr Lieben, mega gut! Danke für das tolle Angebot. Nur ein kleiner Tipp/Hinweis noch zum Video selber (ich recherchiere gerade selber im Netz, wie digitale Ausstellung so funktionieren kann): Bei mir zeigen eure Sprungmarken-Pfeile nicht auf die korrekten Zeiten im Video. Z.B. zeigt euer "DFACE 1:15" bei mir auf 2:20. Man kann außerdem in der Description Sprungmarken hinterlegen! Einfach Links zum Video mit dem Format [ruclips.net/video/cbun2nE1FfI/видео.html], und bei "t=" dahinter die Zahl für die Sekunden eintragen. Ansonsten weiter so!

Die Ausstellung war einfach klasse! Alle Werke waren für sich genial, aber in dem jeweils errichteten "Biotop" und im Verbund mit den anderen Werken ein Erlebnis, das man so nirgendwo anders findet (zum Beispiel Frédérique Morrels Gobelin-Wolpertinger im künstlichen Wald oder Dan Rawlings Flugzeug-Skelett, das aussah, als sei es im Dschungel abgestürzt). Auf jeden Fall hat es sich gelohnt, für dieses Erlebnis 15 Minuten in einer Schlange zu stehen, auch wenn ich das Schlange stehen hasse wie die Pest. Ich hoffe, dass auch etwas vom ethischen Anspruch der Ausstellung das Publikum erreicht hat. Überhaupt wundert es mich, dass noch nicht viel Bild-/Videomaterial davon zu sehen gibt, es hat ja praktisch jeder dort fotografiert und gefilmt, was das Zeug hält. Ganz abgesehen von dieser Sonderausstellung empfehle ich das Urban Nation jedem, der mich fragt, was man in Berlin gesehen haben muss. Der Eintritt ist frei und man kann dort auch gut mit Leuten hingehen, die normale Kunstmuseen stinklangweilig finden. Selbst das Klo dort ist sehenswert!

Great Exhibition! Seeing Audrey Kawasaki and Jasmine Becket-Griffith originals in one room was amazing. Not to forget all the other amazing works!

If i remember the times (80ties) when you have to explain to the people what Graffiti is and where it comes from and that it belongs to the hip hop movement and most of the "writers" who work as an artist today won´t see theyr own expressive way of painting as an artform in these day´s...!
