Funny, I wanted to know who the young lady was in the new Nike/Spike Lee commercial, just to find out she was on the Netflix show of She's gotta have it. Loved the original movie, so I knew I'd like the series. An absolutely underrated series. This show is awesome, and this song... damn, it's like that. Grown ass man crying. I hate it took me this long to find it.

Don't wanna sound like the "Nation Time" guy in the show, but this song was a turning point for how I felt about the show. Spike Lee is the master of drawn-out portraiture - letting you into the pain, rage, fear, irony, defiance, hidden hope, and longing of his characters. What melted me for this show was during this scene when I realized that this body-blow soundtrack is not just decoration to the story. It is the story, in the sense that it fills out the emotional lives of his characters while at the same time connecting them to shared experiences.

I feel in love with this song instantly. This was the best part of this season in my opinion.

From the very first day in May that I heard this song this has been my testimony. I was physically abused before I could even talk as a child. Raped over 15 times . Became a mother 17 , had gun drawn to my head over 4 times. Ripped apart in financially , physically and emotionally abusive marriage for 10 years. Survived 6 suicide attempts last one occuring in September 2013 after being diagnosed with HIV. I was informed that it was a misdiagnosis in November 2013. I've had friends and family come and go using be at their disposal and convenience or as just simply something to talk about. I've lived 31 of my 33 years feeling like I was incapable of being loved and simply just not good enough but today I can look up with my head held high and proud single mother of 3 with them providing me with all the LOVE I could ever need in my own house with my own car with a heart still big enough to try and lift up the next broken soul who comes into my path. Now I appreciate Life. Today I live life! And the beauty is throughout it all I've learned to Celebrate me and NEVER let what happened yesterday take away my smile tomorrow.
