1st, I don't think you'll be having to worry about replacing your electronic lock due to an EMP. If an EMP were to occur, there'll be more important things to worry about than replacing an electronic lock. I originally wanted a mechanical lock for my Fort Knox safe, but after the sales rep told a story about how another customers combo got compromised, and how a locksmith would have to come out to re-combo it for a significant charge, I went with the electronic lock. Quick access and I can change the combo in 5 minutes for free. Plus Fort Knox includes the lock in their lifetime warranty....to the original owner. This was my selling point over Liberty Safes.

If there was an emp from a war or just a massive solar flare people might want access to guns that are locked up.

@@plaid13 I would've upgraded to the digital and mechanical lock (redundant) but that put the safe past my budget. But it's nice that they offer it.

I remember delivering a safe to this guy's residence. His main safe was a vault he got out of a bank. He told me he paid $1000.00 for it,took it all apart like they do when they put one into a bank. They do it from the inside of the vault. But it was an actual bank vault and it looked bad ass. That's the only way to go if you can get lucky and find a bank closing down.

Baloney........Worrying about EMP and if your safe lock will malfunction as a result from it is stupid. An EMP that will be harmful is going to come from a nuclear explosion nearby. At that point you probably aren't going to give a rat's ass about anything. Solar flare ??? Really ??? I am more worried a meteor is going to zero in on my safe lock ! I had a Fort Knox safe prior to the one I just purchased with an S&G electronic lock on it that I owned for 13 years that I let go with the sale of my house. I was in and out of that safe at least three times daily and that lock never blurbed once. Which is why I went with the exact same lock on my current safe. Which is why I insist on S&G. Which is what lock co. Ft. Knox uses. AND Ft. Knox warranties S&G locks for the life of the safe. What more do ya want ??? Huh ???

So many composite safes are trash. Your best guide for quality is the UL certification. Price will always correspond to the quality. Why would you spend less than $1000 to store $5000 of firearms ?

With scopes that’s 5 rifles. Think about a 30-40 gun safe! Plus any other valuables going in it.

Is it just me, or is Jesse chewing Tobacco in his videos? The left side of his jaw looks like it is wedged with tobacco. His front lower lip also looks like it has tobacco in it too. LOL!

As a very proud Ft Knox owner of an older electronic only unit, my question is: Can older units be modified to accept both electronic and manual?

There is now a fourth (or maybe third and a half) option. I don't know if Ft Knox offers it. I know Cannon does. This is a single piece, dual mode "EMP" lock. This has a mechanical dial lock and an electronic lock built into a single unit. I would think this would easier to install. Also, while it's likely more expensive than either of the individual mechanical and electronic locks, it's probably less expensive than the two locks together.

I just looked that up, very interesting design. The main reason I would want a mechanical lock is longevity and reliability. Once that lock has proven itself to be equivalent of an S&G lock I'd be open to it. Let's give it 20 years and see how it goes.

That still falls under "Redundant" lock and it's the same thing the guy showed in the video except the keypad, with innovative engineering, is moved to the dial face. The insides are exact same regardless of where the keypad is located. The keypad only needs to be connected to the lock via wire so it in theory can be located anywhere on the safe. Having it on the dial face gives a cleaner look so that's the current trend with redundant locks.

Superior has a warranty that falls pretty short of Fort Knox

Good information. I can't believe that S&G only warranties elec locks for 2 years. I had a 6120 fail on me, but luckily I was able to get it open. I like the Titan D-Drive because S&G moved the motor to the side which should eliminate cross threading. I've been reading about redundant locks and I want one. Do you know of any vids that show the inside of the safe with the redundant setup, or an install of the lock system?
