Well what a session this was. I positioned my dingy perfect. You can tell I knew something was about to happen if you listen to my audio. Bad news it shook the hook on its second jump. It nearly took the rod out of my hands!

Small river water very coloured. Tried the dry nothing (one or two were still rising) . But a prince nymph on and lots of takes. Missed them all.

I have no idea what happened here. I was using a mayfly on the surface. Went to recast and I was hooked up. Lost it in the end but he had a good jump.

Nearly 9 mins of video and the only real sighting was when the fish lept, bit disappointing really.

Lovely spot there right off the back of that campsite, was there a few years ago but was full so we found a little quiet beach and camped there instead. Will be going back in a week and planning to catch dinner at least once. Nice video very relaxing

I use the cheapest fly reels you can get and rinse them in fresh water when i get home. Im using the same reels for 5 years now. Blue teal and silver is my choice of fly

Hi pal great little vid, quick question. How do you know when you have a fish going for the nymph when you can’t see it like a dry fly? Or does the hook generally set due to the current and tight line etc, cheers
Its intuition really, it looked a fishy spot, the flow takes the nymph so its about trying to keep the nymph looking as natural as possible. Its tricky in a fast bit like that. But as you say the fish will pretty much hook itself in a situation like that, as long as you are in contact with the line.

Hi, Wigan angling association have the stretch that runs through Yarrow Valley Country Park, it’s £28 a year for an adult and apparently a day permit is available on request but I don’t know who you would ask to request a day permit, hope I could help 👍
Is bank fishing accessible on the Yarrow, or is it a venue where waders are required?
