    Great reviews😊. Bringing Up Baby is one of my favourites of all time. As with all true classics it does improve each time you watch it. So many great lines, comic situations & set-ups. One thing I missed originally is the sexual subtext. Hen-pecked Cary Grant is engaged to a woman who doen't want children, in fact doesn't want a honeymoon or 'domestic entanglements of any kind'. Grant is on a quest to find his 'bone' (manhood) whilst being put through many humiliating situations including crawling on his hands & knees and forced to wear a woman's frilly nighty. And even at the start his fiancee, Ms Swallows (sic), in reference to the placing of a dinosaur bone, alludes to trying 'in the tail' yesterday and it didn't fit😂.

    • @neverdiditpod
      @neverdiditpod 21 день назад

      Sort of in this same vein, one of the things we forgot to mention was how Grant calls himself gay sarcastically in a fit of frustration, the first time anyone has used that term to suggest they were homosexual ever in film.

    Liberals loved Hitler.

    • @neverdiditpod
      @neverdiditpod Месяц назад

      In the late 1930s, most American liberals were strongly opposed to Adolf Hitler and his regime. The rise of fascism in Europe, particularly under Hitler in Germany, was widely condemned by liberal and leftist groups in the United States. These groups were alarmed by Hitler's aggressive expansionism, his persecution of Jews and other minorities, and his authoritarian rule. American liberals generally supported internationalism, democratic values, and human rights, all of which were in direct conflict with Nazi ideology. As Hitler's actions became more widely known, including his invasions of neighboring countries and the increasing oppression of Jews, liberals in the United States became more vocally anti-Nazi. While there were some isolationist sentiments in the United States during this period, particularly among conservatives and some non-interventionists, American liberals largely supported efforts to resist Hitler's aggression, eventually backing U.S. involvement in World War II after the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941. There were, however, some fringe elements and individuals in the U.S. who were sympathetic to Hitler or who saw him as a bulwark against communism, but these views were not representative of the broader liberal movement.

    Those first four Bogdanovich films really deserve to be called Polly Platt films. She did the look, he did the actors, but her personal aesthetic dominates.
