So, this song found me at work a few years ago through satellite radio and it HAUNTED me! So much so, that I decided I'd buy the album no matter the cost. While I love the album, it drives me nuts too! This song holds the very interesting distinction of being the best and worst song in my entire jazz collection for two reasons: 1. At every listen it makes me supremely happy! 2: sonically, I can't get it quite right! This tune has everything that could pull at the heartstrings of any ardent audiophile, jazz fan and music lover. It's all there: the crisp piano, the sultry brass, articulate percussion, scrumptious acoustic guitar and a VERY busy, groovy bass line! The whole recording is masterfully produced as one awesome cohesive final product. I have a dedicated sound room in which I enjoy the most amazing music I've heard anywhere; through a collection of kit that has taken me nearly 40 years to collect, upgrade assemble and tweak. The problem is that there are frequencies in the bass line that I just cannot seem to reconcile properly in my room, no matter how I reposition, tweak or adjust speakers and subwoofers. It is the curse of the audiophile in which he wants the best of both worlds: completely enjoy his favorite music with absolute perfection of his toys. This song PROVES it can never be attained! Listening to this song through high-quality cans (headphones) reveals details in the bass line I just have not been able to "get right" in my room. It is no fault of either the equipment nor musicians. It is more the realization that as an audiophile I'm seeking an unattainable nirvana. There IS something mystical about that.... But I can say unequivocally, Perfect Sunday is THE ONLY song in my collection good enough to make this clear to me. Thank you Carol Albert for this masterpiece!!
