The 🇧🇷 best BRAZIL Fernanda Torres e Walter Salles 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Im Still Here ❤❤❤
Unscripted thoughts of a latino: Demi Moore gives a great performance, but the film is not entirely sustained by her. Fernanda Torres, on the other hand, is the heart of the entire film. She doesn't need to scream or cry in front of a mirror to show her talent. Actually, you can see her impressive performance by the subtlety of her gaze (believe me, this is much harder). Unfortunately, a foreign film like "I'm Still Here" doesn't get much attention so easily, and I understand that it's surprising for some Americans to see it nominated. However, it has been praised at several festivals in different countries worldwide, even though its campaign started late and was very discreet compared to that one of a major studio like Netflix, which has been for a long time pouring money into making this controversial film Emilia Perez a success. Emilia Perez is hated because it is a caricature of a people and doesn't deserve to be praised, neither technically nor culturally (if you speak spanish, all that songs are poorly written, sounds terrible). All of Latin America points this out, but North Americans likes the movie cuz they like the colonizing vision of an European. At the end, we know that they (americans) feel closer to (alike) them (europeans) than to Latinos (this is the honest truth).
It's simple... I'm Still Here is a TRUE latin movie.... EP is a NETFLIX most expensive movie.... simple as that.... That's why it got so much attention, not because it;s a good movie, because it is not. It's pathetic.
A poorly done research, since you didn’t even bother to check Wikipedia at least. The movie I’m Still Here has 26 awards worldwide, starting with a Cannes prize for Best Screenplay. Yes, it’s incredibly beloved in Brazil-more than any other movie-but what can we do if we’re really good at supporting our own films? Apologize for that? Sorry, not sorry!
GAME: Take a shot everytime you say "and a" lmao that said IM STILL HERE
Just a reminder: in 1986, the movie The Color Purple got 11 nominations and zero wins, and unlike Emilia Perez, that movie was well received by the public and critic.
I think the reason why I'm Still Here hopped in so quickly and so unpredictably is because of its release date being fairly late. Sure it got TIFF and Cannes last fall but it's only getting to North America around now and a few weeks ago. They decided to bank on the "recent memory" effect on voting decisions, where you're more likely to vote on movies that you saaw recently as you tend to forget something you watched 4 months ago. But also something tells me another reason why it's hitting harder all of a sudden is so many people thinking America is under danger of an authoritarian government and a movie about a family living under a military regime is hitting harder now because of this type of "environment" and "feeling" that people are getting.
Brazilians campaigned for the film to be seen. It turns out that when he is seen the film is charming. Just look at the criticism.
SOME INFORMATION 💎 I'm Still Here is the first Portuguese-spoken movie to be nominated to the Oscar of Best Picture and the sixth that was nominated to Best Foreign Language (the fifth representing Brazil). 💎 Fernanda Torres's mother, Fernanda Montenegro was the first latin actress nominated to the Oscar of Best Actress (Katy Jurado and Norma Aleandro had already been nominated as Supporting Actress) and, to date, she was the only Portuguese-spoken actor nominated to the award, but her daughter just repeated this. That was in 1999, with the movie Central Station, also directed by Walter Salles and nominated to Best Foreign Language Film. 💎 Fernanda Torres, Selton Mello and Fernanda Montenegro played in Four Days in Septemper, brazilian movie nominated to the Oscar of Best Foreign Language Film in 1998, also about brazilian dictatorship period. 💎 Fernanda Torres, aged 20, won the award for Best Actress at the 1986 Cannes Film Festival by the movie Love Me Forever or Never (tied with Barbara Sukowa, by Rosa Luxemburg). She was the first brazilian actress (of two) to win an award in Cannes. The second one was Sandra Corveloni that, coincidentally, was directed by Walter Salles. 💎 Fernanda Torres was the fourth brazilian actor nominated to Golden Globe, but the second with a Portuguese-spoken performance. The first one was her mother. The other nominees were Sônia Braga (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Moon Over Parador and The Burning Season) and Wagner Moura (Narcos). 💎 Fernando Torres, father of Fernanda Torres (yes, they got the same name), played in Kiss of Spider Woman (4 nominations to the Oscar 1986, William Hurt won Best Actor) 💎 I'm Still Here is the fourth movie of Walter Salles to be nominated to the Golden Globe of Best Foreign Language Film (Central Station won, and the other nominees were Behind the Sun and Motorcycle Diaries) and the second nominated to the Oscar of the same category (Central Station was the first) 💎 Fernanda Torres gained a pop star quality in Brazil because her performances in the sitcoms Normal People and Slaps and Kisses.
Very good analysis, as a brazilian Im Still Here is a great demonstration of our cinema and representation for our history, seeing its unprecedented success is obviously a huge deal for us, specially compared to a faux latin movie in spanish (bad spanish at that) I'm begging for I'm Still Here to keep the ball rolling as the stop to Emilia Perez's reign of terror, manifesting a world where March 2 comes and ISH wins International Film and EP loses most of its nominations, hopefully all but that's wishful thinking Supporting Actress and Original Song are locks for now and maybe a tech, but praying for that to be it, Fernanda winning Actress would be insane but Karla is not the one to beat her so it's another topic
The Irishman had 10 Oscar nominations in 2020 and left empty-handed, in other words, the number of nominations doesn't mean anything
We're a passionate people. We know perfectly well that this nomination has nothing to do with our online campaign, we do it for love, for free. Of course, we'll throw a huge party if the movie or Fernanda wins any of these awards, especially since the Oscars will take place at the same time as Carnival, so we'll be celebrating anyway. But that’s not what truly matters to us. The fact that the world is seeing our culture and getting to know a little about our history is already enough reason to celebrate. We 're enormously proud of our country's accomplishments, in any area from culture to sports, that's all! We're Latinoamericanos, Latinoamerica is about passion ;)
This has been 1 of the most disgusting Oscar seasons because of the Torress fan base. It started out with Torress stating that she’s here to avenge her mother’s Oscar loss in 1999 while trying to cast the winner of that year Paltrow as some villain.
She was a villain, didn't deserve that win, and only won bc of harvey weinstein. Yet still, she never said that.
Fernanda Torres never said she was avenging her mother, she dedicated the Globe to her mother because she was in the same position 26 years ago. Fernanda did nothing but to show kindness towards every single nominee, she made a video about it, asking the fanbase to not throw any hate to her fellow actresses. Paltrow's Oscar is, to this day, still not well accepted even by the big media. Glenn Close said it was weird, a lot of people on the media think that Shakespeare in Love's Oscar was also very weird. I get it, brazilians can go too far sometimes, but to put the blame of this backlash on us while there's a clear campaign from Emilia Pérez against Fernanda is disgraceful.
Nice analyisis on nominations. I'm super biased, but who knows we have a new "Parasite" effect
People were not really watching I’m Still Here that’s why. Rotten Tomatoes has this highly rated. People started watching, it should not be a surprise given Best Picture is a preferential vote.
impressionante q não dá pra ter 10 minuto de festa sem o pessoal dar um chilique
Almost no one watched i'm still here before the golden globe, these awards you mentioned took place in December, a Brazilian voter of the critics choice awards said on his RUclips channel that many of his friends (voters) only saw the film after and if they regretted not voting for i'm still here
49:00 While looking back through, I realized I had Ridley Scott on twice. One of those should definitely be Walter Salles for I’m Still Here. I think I meant to put him at #15, though in hindsight, his final placement was probably higher than that.
Hey nice anlysis on the topic. It's been said here already, but the "online campaign" that brazilians do for "I'm Still Here", is more of a collective cheering. If you see the brazilian crowd on Olympics of FIFA World Cup, you'll see we can be pretty loud and enthusiastic in competitions. Of course, this doesn't mean that we're gonna win, but this rooting is part of the fun. "Emilia Pérez" seems to be kinda of anomality between the general public and the Academy. I personaly think that the nomination of I'm Still Here" for Best Picture represents a vulnerability on the Academy opinion of "Emilia Pérez" winning The Best International Picture. If there's doubt, there's is chance for Brazil, and there's a chance, we gonna be rooting for it. edit: sidenote, that's the secont time that I see someone mentioning "I Saw the TV Glow". I'm thinking about giving it a chance, there seems to be a lot of praise to it
Fernanda was amazing. I am still here a masterpiece
I'm still here represents the fight against authoritarian and fascist regimes, a powerful warning that overshadows with the brilliance of Fernanda Torres' performance, this is a film different from the others, an intimate epic that will be marked in the history of cinema. Masterpiece.
I'm still here is not a weak movie. And you as an north American saying Emilia Perez is a good movie makes laugh so much. Dumb Americans lol
Emilia Perez is a stupid movie.
blá, blá,blá...
We know our online campaign is not a big influence on the Oscar's, it's just part of our culture overall and our internet culture in particular. We like to cheer and root for our country and culture. As Torres said, we get just super excited when the world discovers our culture and recognizes how cool and good it is, because we know it brings value to the world. I would love I'm Still Here and Torres to win but really we are just happy many more people will watch our movie.
3:35 I’m sorry but you wrong , in Italy and other countries they clapped for 15 min . Usually North Americans see just what they want to see but others see in a real world and life. Democracy been tested and few want to see it
I'm Still Here 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Fernanda Torres 💚💛
I'm Brazilian so ofc I'm biased, but if "I'm Still Here" got into Best Picture only 20 days after the Golden Globes (and people weren't really paying too much attention to the film before that), imagine what it could get now that it will be watched by tons of other Oscars voters.
Não quero dar uma de maluca mas eu realmente acredito que temos chance, ainda mais depois do que vimos com Parasita.
@ Concordo! Sinto uma "atmosfera" parecida no ar. Hehe
I really hope 'I'm Still Here' wins best internacional film ❤
Hi dear How are you? Your videos are incredible and so awesome! I think you are struggling hard to increase your RUclips channel views, subscribers and watch time. But your channel views, watch time and subscribers are not increasing as expected. But did you realize that?
2024 What da
🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
The Substance has a better chance at a BP nod rather than Sing Sing was not on my bingo card for this season but here we are.
The Room Next Door really has two leads. We follow Julianne Moore's character but it is Tilda Swinton's story. I love the film
Thank you. I feel The Substance is a bit like a chicken before egg situation. Since you said if a character takes the story forward is more like a lead, I feel Demi started using the substance and she could have terminate it ( after Sue abused the balance) as the guy on the phone suggested, but she decided to continue to use it because she was still desperate to be young and beautiful again.
Joseph Quinn from gladiator
fernanda torres mentioned !!!!
I recognize adrien brody now, he was in 2005's king kong
I like selena, you can remove her if you want But still, emilia perez is getting 10-11 nominations at least, but not makeup and hairstyling (makeup is only used for some scenes, and it's not showy compared to the other contenders)
The brutalist might win I can see anora winning the comedy globe and critics choice, and then the brutalist taking drama globe and bafta
Fernanda Torres is Sublime in " I'm Still Here"
Fuck if this year is weak, my country's film is fighting for a place in best picture, and hopefully will win it in best actress (and best international picture)
if it doesn't happen, blame Isabelle Huppert for deciding to award her friends with the highest prize at venice Sony classics was about to give up with the room next door, after the meh reviews it got Now they will prioritize the movie and both tilda and julianne for lead actress, over i'm still here
This is how I imagine my own fancast for now Nate: Ryan Reynolds Elena: Kaley Cuoco Sully: Casey Sander Cutter: Jason Statham Marlowe: Helen Mirren Navarro: James Franco Gabriel Roman: Neal McDonough Lazarevic: Dominic Purcell
ariana is not getting nominated LMAOOOO
ARIANA GRANDE LOL
You should do one with the acting ones and animated feature
Ariana grande will not get nominated lol wtf
ariana grande top 5? LMFAOOO
y'all think she's some kind of meryl streep who got in for into the woods? she's not happening even at the globes
