Generally accepting that the 2nd Wave was officially born at the very dawn of the 90s, its transitional roots fall on that no man's land of 88-1990. The 1st wave had been long and sparse, with all the big figures we all know and hail, but Bathory's last truly BM album in 88 kind of sealed that long progress in the making (never mind those who say it's Viking, just because of the Old Spice ad music and the Pagan sleeve). So, the gathering morbidly curious mob began looking for branches - some in Switzerland, some in Finland, some even in Canada. It wasn't exactly easy to spot Samael, Beherit and Blasphemy around the tapetrading market in my area, but at least they were being spoken of. Meanwhile, behind the Iron Curtain, things had been happening with little to almost no news arriving to western shores. I think the first time i read about M's. H. was around 94. This Live in Zbraslav 89 is a crystal clear evidence that the 1st Wave had also left his mark, with Czechia providing 2 gems, Ms.H. and Root. The difference between early MsH and , say, early Mayhem for instance, is in the musical ability. They're both bands working in both periods (1stW/2ndW), but the hype surrounding the Norsemen won over MsH authenticity. I've just ordered a copy of Live in Zbraslav, for that, too...
