I have been working as a professional filmmaker and photographer for about 20 years now, which continues to take me all over the world, but photography has been intertwined in my life since a very early age. The world and the people in it are my passion. Photography is my way of sharing how that makes me feel. I have been very fortunate to have this as a career. I also love to eat and ride bicycles. I feel like those two things cancel each other out.
The Most Canadian Thing Ever: Poutine in a Wintery Canadian Tire Parking Lot | Stenberg Eats
Poutine is a contender for the national dish of Canada, and Jeffer's Fryzz in Penticton serves up some of the best poutine you can find. Consisting of fresh cut fries, squeaky cheese curds, and homemade gravy poutine is a simple, but delicious snack or meal. Could eating Canada's favourite dish in a Canadian Tire Parking Lot during winter be the most quintessentially Canadian experience ever?

Behind the Photo No.03 - Venice Beach Skatepark Sunset Photography

Shot on the Sony a6500 with a Canon 35mm lens and a Sigma adaptor, this photo made for a perfect silhouette skateboard photo at the Venice Skatepark.
Behind the Photo No.02 - Addis Ababa Carousel Kids
Просмотров 855 лет назад
A working trip to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia in 2013 with Canadian Humanitarian led to perhaps one of the best photos I have ever taken. Taken on a rickety carousel that led to a near vomit experience for the photographer, this photo is the culmination of a day spent with some wonderful students in the Ethiopian capitol. This image was shot on a Canon 5D Mark III with a 24-105mm F4 IS USM lens.
Behind the Photo No.01 - Fukuoka and the Boy in the Fountain

Rather than a standard photo tutorial, Behind the Photo is meant to be a real world example with technical information on how the photo was taken. For BTP No.01 I introduce the idea and a photo from 2001 shot on Fuji film in Fukuoka Japan with a basic Minolta SLR camera. This was the first picture that truly inspired me and encouraged me to pursue a profession in visual arts.
IPDIT No.2 - Basil and Bob: A Land Rover Defender Story with Simon Whitfield
Просмотров 1195 лет назад
In cooperation with Land Rover Canada Simon Whitfield and Bob Walker hit the road in Victoria, BC with Bob's Land Rover Defender Series 2 a88 chatting about cars, the city, old flames, and back problems. Shot and edited in 2015 using only a Canon 5D Mark 3, Zoom H6 recorder, and a pair of Sennheiser G2 Wireless mics this was an exercise in minimalist filmmaking in a cramped space.
IPDIT No.1 - Ari Neufeld & Rich St. Onge Impromptu Chicken Coop Jam
Просмотров 345 лет назад
Ari Neufeld is one of the Okanagan's most prolific folk musicians. On random invite to his studio at the time, housed in a repurposed chicken coop, he and cellist Rich St. Onge do a one take rehearsal of Ari's song "Dondet." Shot in 2010 on the Sony PMW-EX1 this is an example of camera work in harmony with music. One take and that's it.
La Champagneria Barcelona - Greatest Bar Ever
Просмотров 7 тыс.5 лет назад
La Champagneria, or Can Paixano as it is formally known, is one of the best bars in the world. The convivial space is a place for travellers and locals alike, and the mix of local cava bubbly and cured meats and bocadillos is an absolute must when travelling in Barcelona. stenberg.ca/journal/la-champagneria-barcelona-greatest-bar-ever
Poutine is exactly from Québec
Pardon?
Too much talking about shit no one cares about. Just show the food!
Love jeffez fish and chips also
i grew up in penticton, jeffers was always a well known staple, back in the 90's they were king of the block, i was just back in penticton a few weeks ago, and jeffers is still good but def not the same as it used to be
Love how he stuffed that cup full rubs the outside to get the gravy and curds worked in. Then more of everything!
Its from Québec 😊
Penticton is my hometown though I dont live there anymore Jeffer's fryzz is always a must when visiting , a taste of home
I am subscriber 137 😊
Much appreciated. Thank you!
i dont mind people pronouncing it pouTine, even if its pronounced poutSine. has long as i dont need to say spaghetti like italians do lol
Hahaha!
I live down the street from this food truck and have seen it a million times. I’ll have to drive down there and try it
It's definitely worth a go! They also have a truck downtown.
@ haha, I just thought he drove from Nanaimo to CT. Didn’t realize there was two trucks
@@SeanTaylorT It's definitely a local institution. 40 years in the making. Crazy!
Nothing better than a Poutine on a cold winter night! Warms the soul. I usually have a poutine every week. ❤🇨🇦❤️
We say Poo - TEEN in British Columbia 😂
😂 that's because you never had Poutine before!! our real Poutines taste nothing you're your Poo teens ( 😂😂😂 that's why you guys call it Poo!!! )
@kevinpalardy8592 you are correct sir
i was excited seeing the title. brings back memories. I had my first poutine decades ago from a food truck. I had never even heard of it before, as simple as the recipe is.
It's making me feel all nostalgic also. Delicious memories :)
Jeffers fries is the bomb, I'm about to move away from Penticton and I will definitely be getting another one before I go
Last supper for sure 🙏
Amazingly shot...and I'm starving now. Well done
Thank you. I guess mouth watering is my new filming goal. Cheers!
As a Québécois, i'm glad you take time to go over the pronounciation of Poutine!
It’s surprising how it has become poo-teen with the Anglo Canadians. Poutine deserves so much better and proper pronunciation at the least. I’m sure my pronunciation is not great, but I try!
@@ChrisStenberg As far as i'm concerned, your pronounciation is perfect!
@@knowledgeboy5198 You are too kind, but merci!
But he said it's a Canadian dish :(
Nice gravy.
It is pretty delicious!
Poutine is exactly from Québec. No canadian poutine can beat a real Québec poutine from a small cantine in region.
Exactement les anlais aiment bien s'appropier les choses comme les frites ou les burgers qui ne viennent pas des étas-unis. La poutine vient du Québec donc c'est pas Canadien, c'est Québécois
This video was definitely made by a west coast Anglophile, but I do appreciate that the perspective is different in Quebec and I give Quebec full kudos for gifting us this delicious dish!
@@ChrisStenberg If you actually appreciate this culinary creation from Québec, then you should present it as it is: a dish that belongs to the distinct Québécois culture.
@@vincentlagrange2329 thank you for your perspective. I will incorporate that into my next poutine adventure. Part 2 in Quebec.
@ j’ai pas regardé la vidéo au complet mais j’ai vue un passage où qu’il mentionne "Canadian poutine" les canadiens ça parlent anglais, c’est pour ça qu’ont est Québécois sur ce bonne journée!
Lovely video!
Thank you for watching and the kind words :)
Poutine was not a thing as kid in ontario. Sure there was fries and gravy at cheap restaurant. But I didn't have my first poutine until Mcdonalds served it around 2000.
I forgot about McDonald's poutine!
Back to Israel you go Bergy Boy
If you can appreciate the subtlety in spelling, my last name is commonly mistaken for a number of different similarly spelled names from different countries. That part of my family is actually Norwegian, and the name derives from Scandinavian words meaning Stone Mountain. I bring it up only because I’m proud of my heritage. To reply more to the point of your comment, I don’t support racism or violence of any kind. I am, however, just a little more aware of how pervasive hatred can be in the world because of you.
Now Canadian Tires everywhere will be wanting a truck in thier parking lots!
It really is genius. Who doesn’t want something delicious after shopping for hardware and car parts?
Jefferz Poutines are THE BEST. Put seasoning salt and Sriracha on that baby Ooooo yeah
Ooh. Sounds deluxe!
That gravy looks way too dark. The Quiznos gravy was that colour and it tasted like shoe polish. The best most authentic gravy is 2-1 ratio beef to chicken stock. My Dad was from the west and he used to suck on road tar as a kid. They're not that picky out there and I'm sure that gravy reminds them of the Tar sands so there's that nostalgia angle to it....I guess. I'm certain it would make me spew chunks. 🤮
No dude their gravy is fantastic. Don't knock it till you try it. I think I'm gonna have to run down to Penticton this weekend to get one again! It's the best poutine I've had anywhere in western Canada thus far!
Don't knock it 'till you try it. I've never had a better poutine, and I try poutine everywhere I can.
I honestly don’t know what is in this gravy exactly, but I can attest that it is delicious.
Canadian thing or dish? Yah right!!!!
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion :)
As a Québécois I can tell you it's not a canadian dish. It's a repas Québécois it's from Québec
should be chicken gravy
This could be a whole other video! A gravy-off? What gravy is best? Gravy taste test challenge. Could be awesome.
@@ChrisStenberg do it I am Pro chicken only ...but the best is poutine with turkey curds peas stuffing and way to much turkey gravy
I’m from Canada and from home of poutine Quebec but we never put it in a cup bc the first few bites you get everything cheese gravy and fries but after all you get is fries and gravy
Not with Jeffers. He adds cheese and gravy halfway before adding more fries and topping it again. No dry fries!
You make a good point. I agree with @darrenramsay-cy7iz that Jeffer’s does a good job of layering. I tried to show it in the video, but maybe it wasn’t clear enough.
@@ChrisStenberg and the cup keeps the fries at the bottom hot!
I live behind this Canadian Tire and I have Jeffers at least once a week lol.
I could totally see doing that! Throw a piece of broccoli on top and I think you’ve got yourself a complete meal haha.
**Oh boy, you've got competition there boys. In Australia they have "snags" in the parking lots of Bunnings hardware stores. They are grilled hotdogs on a white bread with onions. Served by old ladies it a tent doing charity fundaising for kids. So challenge laid down..
Jeffers also serves Smokies, which are better than hot dogs in every way!
Challenge accepted! One day in Australia I hope to put this to the test.
Great video!🇨🇦.Subbd
Thank you all around! I have plans for future videos, but is there anything you’re keen to see?
@ChrisStenberg bro after this video...my guy I will watch anything u post!U absolutely killed this one and did an excellent job explaining 🇨🇦 and poutine and what it means to Canucks!Encapsulated in the same way that Hockey explains and defines us,it's who we are and I loved and appreciated yer video, and it made me hungry for poutine immediately.U do u and yer videos bro and i will definitely watch.Suggesttion I would say next summer do Jasper,cz a dood with yer skills and production quality will do proper justice! As far as food...same area bro, come try spots in Banff Canmore etc!We got top quality food and spots out here bro that are not getting their or appreciation. The world and Canucks need to learn and know these spots and I believe that u might just be that guy to showcase us/it to the world.Thats what I'd like to see.Ramble ramble but thanks guy, great great mini doc on Poutine!🇨🇦
@@ProudPatriot306 thank you for the kind words. So much to explore and I'm looking forward to taking this a little further afield!
They are called pub fries where I'm from. PA
Do they have squeaky cheese curds? Might have to do a series on fries and gravy!
@@ChrisStenberg American cheese.
I love me some American cheese.
Thank you for this gem Chris
Thank you for watching! I will check out your channel :)
Is this truck always located in same area? im coming from Kelowna!
Yes. There’s one at Canadian Tire and one downtown on Nanaimo Street. Always the same spots!
@@ChrisStenberg Oh sweet thanks I gotta get there next weekend.
Ooohh tough call Poutine at a Cambodian Tire Or Fry truck at minor hockey tourney
I should have mentioned the proximity of said Canadian Tire to the local ice arena and hockey academy! Throw in a moose, and a couple of Mounties and I think that would cement it as most Canadian thing ever haha.
YESSIR CANADA🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
You know it!! 🇨🇦
Just came across to this video.... Oh so nice!! Wished I could have it now... then realized it was your video😄😄 Good job👍👍
Thank you 🙏
Oh man I could go for some poutine right now
It’s poutine o’clock somewhere!
Canada 🇨🇦 let's go
Oh Canada!
Perfect! Period.
Pretty delicious I have to say. Thank you!
This was amazingly well done! Not sure what part of Canada you're in but cheers from Ontario!
Thank you for the kind words! This is in Penticton, BC. Other side of the country, but still great eastern inspired poutine.
Excellent camera work! And the Poutine looks amazing, can't wait to try it out
Thank you! As a camera person by trade and eater by side hustle I appreciate the compliment!
Great video. Hard to believe you only have 40 subs. Investing in this early.
Thank you and very much appreciated! I have a long list of ideas that I’m working on…a little late to the RUclips party but excited to be here.
Production value on this is nuts! Subbed
20 years of making videos for other people. Who knew that poutine was going to be the inspiration to do something for myself. Thank you for the great compliment 🙏
well I guess I need to go now.
Yes. I’ll meet you there.
Looks like Ottawa Valley style. Rich brown beefy gravy as opposed to the Montreal style that has a tomato base and still satisfies. I'm curious to know how a BC poutine differs and are there prairie poutines?
I hadn’t thought too much about what was in the gravy. 40 year old mom’s recipe was good enough for me, but now I’m curious. Maybe there’s a follow up in there. Different poutine styles and a visit to the prairies…
@@ChrisStenbergAgreed, a regional poutine guide is needed. I recommend trying the poutine at LA Ronde in Montreal. While any ski hill works in Gatineau.
@ thank you for the tips! Will keep that in mind for future eastern Canada adventures.
What? Tomato based? I don't know where you had poutine in Montreal, but Montreal (or Quebec style) is using "sauce brune" which is a mix of chicken stock gravy and beef stock gravy. No tomatoes to be found in there lol
How the hell am I supposed to get one over here in Czech Republic, now that I have seen this... :)))))) great video. Cheers.
Thank you! If only there was some way to transport it there. Maybe goulash and frites?
Am American, I go for fries cheese and gravy
Potato / potato? Both sound pretty good to me, but obvious I’m a little biased toward the poutine.
Here before this blows up. Way to make me crave some poutine now!!!
Very much appreciated, and I’m sorry to do that to you!
Most excellent. I rave about our parking lot poutine at the fry truck to anyone who will listen.
Right? It’s so good!!
